Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) said she wants to “defund” the state of New York state for convicting former President Donald Trump.
Greene proposed cutting the state off from federal funding in an attempt to punish residents after 12 jurors convicted Trump on May 30.
The proposal would cut off access to federal resources for education, housing, law enforcement and veterans’ benefits.
Greene commented during an interview with former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon on the TV channel Real America’s Voice.
“And I think the American people have turned a corner after they watched that conviction come down in New York, to the point where it’s like, you know what? Screw New York,” the Georgia representative stated. “New York doesn’t deserve a damn penny. We shouldn’t fund them one single dime. Not a dime.”

Donald Trump says he wants the Supreme Court to intervene in his upcoming sentencing on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
“The ‘Sentencing’ for not having done anything wrong will be, conveniently for the Fascists, 4 days before the Republican National Convention,” Trump wrote Sunday night on Truth Social, complaining that Judge Juan Merchan was an “‘Acting’ Local Judge, appointed by the Democrats, who is Highly Conflicted” to “make a decision which will determine the future of our Nation.”

Over the past two decades, the Supreme Court has been captured by dark-money interests, and justices are reshaping our laws and society according to their reactionary, far-right vision. It’s a problem that would only be compounded with a second Donald Trump administration pursuing an extreme, right-wing policy agenda.
Trump’s judicial adviser, Leonard Leo, who helped select three Supreme Court justices, can take pride in his work. His network, which recently received a historic $1.6 billion infusion, spent millions to confirm those justices, and works to influence both the justices’ caseload and their decisions.

Donald Trump Blasts Judge As A “Devil” And Justice System As “Rigged” In Speech After Guilty Verdict
Updated: Donald Trump seized on coverage of the historic guilty verdicts in his hush money trial to blast the judge as a “devil” and claim that the proceedings were rigged.
“If they can do this to me, they can do this to anyone,” Trump said at the outset of his speech, carried across cable news networks.
As he has done throughout the proceedings, he used superlatives to describe what has happened, this time calling it “fascist.”
From the same Trump Tower lobby where he first announced his presidential bid nine years ago, Trump alternated between his campaign talking points and many of the lines that he often recited in his many appearances during breaks in the Manhattan court proceedings.
“This is a scam. It’s a rigged trial. It shouldn’t have been at that venue. We shouldn’t have had that judge,” Trump said, against the backdrop of American flags.

Donald Trump has been cashing in on his new title of convicted felon.
Rolling Stone reported earlier this week that the former president’s team expected a guilty verdict in the hush-money trial and were preparing a fundraising blitz as soon as the jury handed down a decision. The blitz came just minutes after Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records with which he was charged, and on Friday morning, his campaign announced they had raised a whopping $34.8 from small-dollar donations following the verdict.

Republican lawmakers were apoplectic about the Trump verdict Thursday, with many joining the Maga chorus in declaring it a political, sham trial, in an effort to delegitimize the jury’s decision.
Some reactions were brief: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) tweeted an image of an upside-down American flag, a symbol associated with the “Stop the Steal” movement, which treats President Joe Biden’s 2020 election win as illegitimate.

A jury in New York City today found former president Donald Trump guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records as part of a conspiracy to keep a potential sex scandal from derailing his first presidential campaign.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, just days before the start of the Republican National Convention.
The verdict, in the only one of four criminal cases against Trump to go to trial to date, could have far-reaching effects on his bid to recapture the White House in November. The first impact is likely to be a tidal wave of reaction across broadcast and social media to the outcome of a trial with no precedent in U.S. history.
As the verdicts were read, Trump sat motionless between his attorneys, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove. Blanche asked for all of the jurors to be polled, and they all affirmed their guilty verdicts.

After having her body insulted during a House hearing earlier this month, controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) got her revenge on Monday by posting a flattering bikini shot to mark her 50th birthday.
“From being the first person to graduate college in my family, to carrying three babies in my womb and the absolute miracle of 3 childbirths, to raising my children and teaching them about God’s creation and man’s dangers, to running successful businesses and carrying the weight of the responsibility, being a member of Congress, running, cycling, swimming, competing, training, reading, always learning, creating, building, skiing, surfing, hiking, making mistakes, learning lessons, and most importantly God’s grace that I don’t deserve but am thankful for beyond words, my 50 years have been an incredible journey that I’m thrilled to be on,” Greene wrote in her post.

Donald Trump likes to tell anyone who will listen that he’s absolutely convinced he will win his 2024 rematch against President Joe Biden. And, according to people who’ve spoken to the ex-president about this, Trump also seems convinced that if he wins another four years in the White House, state prosecutors will still be waiting for him on the other side of his term — ready to put him on trial, or even in prison, just as they are now.

As the GOP struggles to maintain its slim majority ahead of the pivotal November elections, House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office is reeling from the sudden departure of its top staff members.
Raj Shah, Johnson’s well-connected communications director and a former White House deputy press secretary under Donald Trump, is the latest high-profile departure. Shah’s impending exit comes just a day after the resignations of three top policy staff members who had worked for the previous speaker, Kevin McCarthy (R-California).
McCarthy was ousted in an internal party coup last October, but Johnson retained Brittan Specht, Jason Yaworske and Preston Hill, all respected policy experts. It was reported that they all committed to working for Johnson for six months, providing valuable experience and continuity during the transition of power within the Republican caucus. All three will depart at the end of May.

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito flew an “Appeal to Heaven” flag at his New Jersey beach house. The flag’s close association with both far-right Christian nationalists and the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 raises serious questions about Alito’s ability to rule impartially. The conservative court on which Alito sits is largely the product of right-wing dark-money overlord Leonard Leo, and — wouldn’t you know it — Leo flew the same “Appeal to Heaven” flag outside of his house in Maine.

Sam Alito — the arch conservative Supreme Court justice — now has two flag controversies to explain, and another striking reason to doubt his impartiality in cases involving Donald Trump and the Jan. 6 defendants.

Alito has blamed the placement of that flag — which is typically only to be flown to signify national distress, including when the government has fallen — on his wife Martha-Ann. Over a dozen people came to support former President Donald Trump in court on Monday, including Chuck Zito, former leader of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang. In the mid-1970s, Zito formed his motorcycle gang, the New Rochelle Motorcycle Club, before merging with the Ching-a-Ling Nomads.
Later, Zito was voted in as a member of the Hells Angels chapter in New York City in 1979 after meeting Sandy Alexander, chapter president. After numerous legal issues during his time with the Hells Angels, Zito left in 2004 to pursue a career in Hollywood. Some of Zito’s notable acting roles include Chucky “The Enforcer” Pancamo in the HBO prison drama Oz and Frankie “Diamonds” in Sons of Anarchy. He also worked as an amateur boxer and celebrity security guard.

Former Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark attended Donald Trump‘s trial in Manhattan on Thursday. Clark, a member of the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Justice Department, was indicted for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.
During Trump’s Thursday trial, Clark sat at the back of the courtroom during the cross-examination of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen. On the stand, Cohen called Trump a “Cheeto-dusted cartoon villain” on his podcast. Several other Trump allies joined Clark, though they did not come with Trump’s entourage.
Last week, House Speaker Mike Johnson was among those who made the pilgrimage to the Manhattan courtroom.
After President Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election, Clark falsely claimed the Justice Department was investigating errors and irregularities in the election results. In April, a D.C. Bar panel found Clark responsible for ethical violations by promoting conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.

C-span coverage of Congress turned into a Jerry Springer-like spectacle of name-calling and insults on Thursday, as a verbal jab lobbed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-ga) triggered an extended period of outcry from several Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.
The purpose of the hearing was to consider whether to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt, a polarizing proposal that quickly made the proceedings raucous. But things got especially chaotic after Greene took a swipe at Rep. Jasmine Crockett over her “fake eyelashes.”
Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-ny) then stepped in to protest Greene’s remarks, telling her, “How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person.”
Greene responded, “Are your feelings hurt?”
“Oh, girl. Baby girl. Don’t even play,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
Greene said that she would strike her words, but she declined to apologize.

GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Accuses House Speaker Mike Johnson Of Being ‘Owned By The Democrats’
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) has accused House Speaker Mike Johnson of being “owned by the Democrats” in a new interview.
Greene’s allegations come as a response to Johnson’s perceived unwillingness to “defund Jack Smith,” the special counsel who has brought two indictments against former President Donald Trump.
“Mike Johnson is owned by the Democrats, and that proved to me to be right again,” Greene stated in an interview on Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo. She went on to claim that it was not Republicans who saved Johnson from her “motion to vacate” his position, but instead Democrats, such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and former House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-New York).
“When you have Nancy Pelosi, who was Speaker of the House when they impeached President Trump twice, and you have Jerry Nadler, who was chairman of the Judiciary Committee that led the impeachment against President Trump,...

House Speaker Mike Johnson made headlines on Tuesday when he attended former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York. In doing so, he became the highest-ranking Republican official to offer support to Trump and endorse his criticisms of the U.S. justice system.

Alongside Trump at the courthouse were Gov. Doug Burgum (R-North Dakota), who has been mentioned as a potential running mate for Trump in the 2024 election, as well as Rep. Gaetz is one of the eight Republicans responsible for his being ousted as House speaker.

Gaetz is one of the eight Republicans responsible for his being ousted as House speaker.
“Gaetz is the Hunter Biden of the Republican Party,” the ex-House Speaker stated during an interview with Politico. “He’s got an opponent who is pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, trained at Pensacola, went to the Naval Academy and flew jets to defend us while Gaetz was getting kicked out of high school, buying coke and paying minors for sex.”
McCarthy was speaking about the House Ethics Committee investigation, which began in 2021, over allegation the Florida representative had breached sex trafficking laws and had relations with a 17-year-old girl.

Marjorie Taylor Greene forced a vote to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday evening, a move her colleagues in Congress quickly voted to kill.
The House voted 359-43 to table the motion, with 193 Republicans siding with 163 Democrats in striking it down.
Greene has been teasing that she will force a vote to oust Johnson despite garnering virtually no support for the move, and former President Donald Trump reportedly telling her over the weekend to drop the stunt. She seemed ready to do so yesterday, but went ahead and forced the vote on Wednesday.

Update: The House of Representatives overwhelmingly rejected Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s effort to oust Speaker Mike Johnson, a move that would have sent the chamber into another round of chaos.
Greene’s motion to oust Johnson was tabled 359-43, with seven members voting present. Eleven Republicans and 32 Democrats voted against sidelining the motion.
The vote was a resounding defeat for Greene, who had insisted that she had substantial support for her effort.
CNN and MSNBC did extensive coverage of the vote, but Fox News largely stuck with The Five, doing a more complete update on Special Report at 6 p.m. Et.
That’s quite a contrast to October, when the House rejected efforts to table a resolution to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy. He then was removed as speaker, with 208 Democrats joining with eight Republicans.
That led to a protracted effort to find a successor who could amass a majority to become the next speaker.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) shot back at Fox News after columnist Liz Peek wrote an op-ed in which she called the Georgia representative an “idiot.”
“It’s high time someone in the Republican Party told Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to turn all that bombastic self-serving showmanship and drama queen energy on Democrats and stop trying to defeat her own party,” Peek wrote in her op-ed, which was titled, “Marjorie Taylor Greene is an idiot. She is trying to wreck the GOP.”
Peek noted that the representative “would rather burn down the House, metaphorically speaking, than work towards the greater good.”
She added, “The greater good, unless she and her fellow discontents in Congress have forgotten, is defeating Joe Biden in November.”
She later mentioned in her op-ed that “the internal squabbles of the party” must end.
“If Marjorie Taylor Greene and others want to oppose aid to Ukraine or the Fisa bill,...

House Speaker Mike Johnson gave a speech about the antisemitism present at Columbia University, which was met with boos and heckling from pro-Palestinian protesters in the crowd.
Johnson delivered a stern message on the university’s campus for school administrators and protesters after days of anti-war demonstrations, arrests and campus closures at colleges across the United States.
A spokesperson from Johnson’s office stated that Johnson wanted to speak to Columbia students because he believed that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) had not done enough to keep them safe.
“Today, I’m here to proclaim, for all those who gnash their teeth and demand to wipe the state of Israel off the map and attack our innocent Jewish students, this simple truth: neither Israel nor these Jewish students on this campus – this campus will stand alone,” the House speaker declared during his speech.

After six months of needless delays (at least partly due to not-President Donald Trump suspiciously ordering Republicans to reject it) the House and Senate finally passed a major aid package to Ukraine this week. The package also contains military aid to Taiwan and, controversially considering the current climate, Israel. But at least everyone not on Vladimir Putin’s Christmas card list is happy about the badly needed Ukraine aid to combat the ongoing Russian invasion there.
So what finally tipped the scales away from Putin and toward necessary help for a battered nation fighting to fend off a fascist takeover? One Mike Johnson, improbably, as the far-right GOP House Speaker actually stood up to the pro-Putin Republican fringe threatening his job and allowed a vote,...

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy praised GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for being a “very serious legislator” despite her remarks about replacing House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade noted in an interview with McCarthy that Greene is hoping to oust Johnson, much like Rep. Matt Gaetz deposed him on October 3, 2023.
“Now what she’s doing is much different than what Matt Gaetz is doing – did,” the former House speaker stated. “She didn’t make it privileged, so it’s not up for a vote.”
“And the one thing I’ve always found about Marjorie is she’s a very serious legislator that deals with policy,” he added.
“And the best way to deal with anyone like that is to sit down and talk to them,” he continued. “I don’t believe the speaker has spoken to Marjorie. I think if you sit down and discuss, you understand you have Congress,...

The votes by 19 conservative lawmakers to tank government surveillance legislation on Wednesday was the culmination of a decade of efforts to build a left-right alliance against warrantless spying. The Republican Study Committee released a budget proposal that calls for raising the Social Security retirement age to 69 years old and slashing funding for Medicare.
The RSC is chaired by Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Oklahoma), and its members consist of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and three top leadership deputies. Johnson chaired this group from 2019 to 2021.
The proposals, unlikely to become law this year because of opposition from Democrats who control the Senate and White House, indicate how many Republicans will hope to govern if they win the 2024 elections.
They also play into an argument that President Joe Biden wants to use against Donald Trump and Republicans while running for reelection.
The budget was released by the RSC, a group of over 170 House GOP lawmakers, including many of Trump’s allies. The RSC proposal noted that Biden supported raising the age to 65 to 67, the current retirement age while he was a senator in the 1980s.

A story that was widely shared by conservative politicos and right-wing media has been retracted by its publisher, the Daily Caller.
The piece claimed that the Biden administration banned religious-themed Easter eggs from a contest at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll. In fact, the restrictions were long-standing ones from the American Egg Board that have applied for the past 45 years, across administrations including that of Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump.
“Following the publication of this article, the Daily Caller became aware of additional context that undercut the central assertion of this article and its newsworthiness,” according to the retraction notice. “The ban of religious symbolism on eggs as part of the White House Easter egg activities has been longstanding, dating back decades, and the Biden administration did not make any modifications to this rule.”

Updated: This past weekend saw a parade of Republican elected officials and conservative commentators blast the White House for recognizing Sunday as the Transgender Day Of Visibility, as it happened to fall this year on the same day as Easter.
That continued into Monday, with radio hosts highlighting the outrage and FoxNews.com devoting its 11th story so far over the flap.
At today’s press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called out Fox, noting that “we are at first … confused on their coverage. We are grateful that Fox agrees with President Biden about the importance of recognizing trans day of visibility.”
She then went on to read a tweet that Fox TV, the broadcast network sister division of Fox News, put out in 2021 that noted the Trans Day Of Visibility and read, “To all the transgender men, women and non-binary folx, we see you and stand with you.

During President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union address, House Speaker Mike Johnson was visibly displeased as Biden criticized his predecessors’ tax cuts while taking credit for reducing the deficit by $1 trillion.
Seated next to Vice President Kamala Harris in the traditional speaker’s seat, Johnson’s expressions of disagreement were prominently displayed to television viewers. He shook his head and grimaced when Biden mentioned Republicans wanting to put Social Security on the “chopping block.” Additionally, Johnson rolled his eyes in response to Biden’s claim that he would sign a border security bill if presented with one and laughed at the assertion.
Johnson assumed the role of speaker after the removal of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) in October 2023, after a remarkable 21-day period without a leader.
This marked Congress’s longest stretch without a clear direction since 1962 when it took 55 days to elect a new speaker.

About a half hour after Joe Biden finished up a give-em-hell type of State of the Union speech, he was still in the House chamber, shaking hands, taking selfies and chatting up other senators in candid moments that were caught on C-Span. The president lingered for so long that some photographers joked that soon the House chaplain may show up to give the next morning’s prayer.
Finally, House Speaker Mike Johnson, still on the rostrum, called an end to the proceedings, and the TV lights dimmed. Biden got the signal that it was time to go, but even then it took him a few more minutes to exit.
The speech and even Biden’s endurance in its aftermath should have provided some reassurance to Democrats fretting about Biden’s age and agility in recent months — as one prominent Hollywood backer put it to me the other day, the term is “freaking out.

Updated: During his State of the Union speech Thursday, Joe Biden exchanged words with Republican hecklers, skewered Donald Trump without naming him, and framed the November election as one of decency and democracy versus retribution and resentment.
Stretching over an hour, Biden appeared feisty and energetic, occasionally stumbling over his lines. More often than not, his speech was a campaign restart sprinkled with Sotu standards, the laundry list of accomplishments and references to the everyday figures in the gallery. Biden, aided by chants of “four more years,” seemed determined to show some verve and allay some of the fears of fretful Democrats.
One of the most contentious parts of the speech came when Biden slammed Republicans for rejecting a bipartisan border compromise, eliciting boos and some heckling from GOP members. At one moment, after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) shouted at him to “remember Laken Riley,” a 22-year-old student...
