- Always on the verge of major stardom she was supposed to star in A Kind of Loving (1962) but became pregnant. She then suffered a nervous breakdown in 1963, forcing her to pull out of her starring role as Liz in Billy Liar (1963), and has only acted occasionally since.
- In addition to performing on television and in films, Topsy acted with the Varley Players at Pype Hayes Church and at the Highbury Little Theatre in Birmingham. She is best remembered for her role as Tom Courtenay's girlfriend in the iconic 1960s film, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962).
