Jackman Thrills X-men Fans With Wolverine Teaser

25 July 2008 10:40 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Movie star Hugh Jackman thrilled comic book fans at Comic-Con in San Diego, California on Thursday - by turning out to thank them for his career.

The Aussie actor was a last minute addition to the convention when he showed up to introduce the first trailer footage from his X-Men spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

After receiving a standing ovation from X-Men fanatics, a beaming Jackman said he marked the date for Comic-Con in his diary so he could personally thank fans for their support.

He said, "Without these guys, there would be no Wolverine, and I would probably be in a gas station serving gas.

"These guys are the most loyal, hardcore, supportive fans out there, so there was no way I was going to miss it."

Jackman, who plays the hairy X-Men mutant, revealed the teaser footage he previewed had literally just come off the reel, explaining the much-anticipated new film had just been completed.

Photo: 20th Century Fox Here at Comic Con, Fox tried to act like it was a big surprise (and maybe it was), but they did the right thing and brought in Hugh Jackman who jumps on stage and begins to introduce footage from X-Men Origins: Wolverine... here is what he had to say. function getVideo() { var so = new SWFObject("http://cdn.springboard.gorillanation.com/storage/xplayer/ro001.swf", "mplayer", "510", "550", "8", "#000000"); so.addParam("wmode","transparent"); so.addParam("swliveconnect", "true"); so.addParam("allowfullscreen","true"); so.addVariable("autostart","false"); so.addVariable("continuousPlay","false"); so.addVariable("file", "http://cms.springboard.gorillanation.com/xml_feeds_advanced/index/37/3/35/0/0/0/0/0/0/0/"); so.addVariable("pageUrl", document.location); so.write("flashcontent_defaultplayer_37_3_35"); } getVideo(); The footage shows plenty involving the origin of both Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Sabertooth (Liev Schrieber) from their time in front of a firing squad to their introduction to Stryker. Hollywood funnyman Vince Vaughn has topped a list of stars who give their studios best value for money.

The Wedding Crashers actor came first in a Forbes magazine poll of stars who provide movie bosses the best return on their investment.

The star earned $14.73 (GBP7.36) for every $1 (GBP0.50) he was paid in his last three movies. The list also takes DVD revenues into consideration.

Jackman declines to give Kidman advice

23 July 2008 4:30 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Hugh Jackman has refused to give any parenting tips to new mum Nicole Kidman. Jackman, who co-stars with the actress in the upcoming war epic Australia, has declined to give any advice on how to raise her daughter Sunday Rose. He said: "I didn't give any advice because anyone who's actually had kids knows there's nothing more annoying than all the advice you get on how to do it. Kidman Gets No Advice From Jackman

23 July 2008 12:05 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Hugh Jackman has decided against passing along parenting advice to new mum Nicole Kidman.

The X-Men star, a father of two, confesses he didn't like receiving advice when he was a new parent, so he spared friend and Australia co-star Kidman and her husband Keith Urban any tips when they welcomed daughter Sunday Rose earlier this month.

He says, "I didn't give any advice because anyone who's actually had kids knows there's nothing more annoying than all the advice you get on how to do it.

"You know you're going to stuff it up in some way or other. Actually the best bit of advice was from the guy who delivered the baby, when my first son Oscar was born.

"He came in and the birth happened about two minutes later and as he was leaving he said, 'Congratulations, don't rock the baby.'

"Cut to two weeks later, the baby won't sleep and we're rocking it. That's the only advice I give. Don't rock the baby because you end up spending your life doing it. But I didn't give that to Keith or Nicole."

Kidman also has two adopted children, Connor and Isabella, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.

DVD Review: Van Helsing (2-Disc Collector's Edition)

17 July 2008 1:14 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Once upon a time, I thought director Stephen Sommers was going to be a pretty nifty director. He made a live action version of The Jungle Book in 1994 that was pretty darn good. Tense, exciting, beautifully shot and breathlessly paced, this was deliciously fun B-movie excitement perfect for the entire family and I don't feel remotely ashamed to admit just how much I enjoyed it. Then came the three-pronged attack of Deep Rising, The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Each increasingly more juvenile. Each more reliant upon tepid CGI effects not even remotely ready for prime time. Worse, Sommers seemed intent on stripping intelligence completely out of his motion pictures, his characters nothing more than thin cardboard cutouts devoid of virtually any and all interesting qualities that could have remotely made any of them anything close to human. Of course, Deep Rising has turned into something of an underground cult hit,

Plastic Man? Really?

15 July 2008 9:58 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

One day, we're going to get around to writing this long article about what comic book characters should and should not be adapted into movies. Clearly, The Incredible Hulk isn't everybody's favorite; both films have been outperformed by Fantastic Four movies. On the flip side, Iron Man was a huge hit, and you would think the bigger the comic book star would also be the bigger the movie star, so Hulk should do better. Not the case.

Why?

That's a really good question. We can't say it's star power, because Tobey Maguire and Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman aren't bigger stars than Edward Norton, at least, not clearly bigger stars. It isn't as if they've cast Tom Hanks in one of these movies yet. The Hulk should appeal to audiences because of its tortured character, so one of the only rational explanations I can come up with is they think the effects look cheesy.

McKellen Eyes X-Men Spin-off

11 July 2008 11:53 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Sir Ian McKellen is hoping to star in a new X-Men movie featuring his character Magneto.

The comic book series has already produced three major action films and a spin-off picture - X-Men Origins: Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman, which is due for release next year.

McKellen has revealed that film bosses are already looking over a script for a possible Magneto movie.

And he hopes it will be rewritten to give him a bigger part - as he was the first actor to bring the character to life.

He says, "I think it's a very good series. There is a script knocking around for a spin-off, but it will be a younger Magneto, so if I were involved it would just be topping and tailing the story."

Ian McKellen Eager to Play Magneto Again

11 July 2008 7:00 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

Don't put Ian McKellen's cape in storage just yet. While there are no current plans for a fourth X-Men film, the actor says he'd be up for working in even a relatively small part on a prequel dedicated to his character, a misguided villain with power over all things metal. "There is a script knocking around for a spinoff, but it will be a younger Magneto, so if I were involved it would be just topping and tailing the story," the actor, 69, tells BBC News.If a Magneto film indeed goes forward, it would be the second spinoff featuring an X-Men character.

New 'Wolverine' Movie Includes Lots of Standing around

8 July 2008 8:23 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

I wish I may, I wish I might...

Photo: 20th Century Fox courtesy Empire Magazine Hey fanboys, batten down the hatches it's a new pic from Fox's Wolverine, which they are so confident in they won't even be previewing it at Comic Con this year. Nope, instead they have decided to give Empire Magazine an exclusive new image of Hugh Jackman as the title character staring off into the distance pondering a lost love or perhaps what he is going to have for dinner. Fox's lack of promotion of this film and this new picture that is highly reminiscent of the homo-erotic posters for X-Men 3 (Exhibit 1, Exhibit 2, Exhibit 3 and Exhibit 4) don't give me much hope for this film. I mean, what better venue is there to premiere footage from a film such as Wolverine, an iconic comic book character, than a comic book convention of which the entire industry focuses their eyes on.

Not only is Downey Jr. starring in the first ’08 summer blockbuster to top the $300 million mark, but he also has two other projects coming up this year. On Aug. 15, 2008, he will be seen in Ben Stiller’s action comedy “Tropic Thunder,” and later this year, he will star opposite Jamie Foxx in Joe Wright’s drama “The Soloist.”

According to Digital Spy, Ralph Fiennes, Sir Ben Kingsley, Hugh Jackman, Cameron Diaz, Tim Burton, Shakira and Felicity Huffman are also on the list of recipients.

The stars will be unveiled some time in 2009. Downey Jr. delivered some awesome performances over the past years, and he certainly deserves his star on Hollywood’s most famous sidewalk.

Beautiful Annie Leibovitz Photos from the Set of 'Australia'

Realizing that it's still summer and there is a mondo list of movies to look forward to before Labor Day, I'd nonetheless like to direct your attention to a sumptuous pictorial in the latest issue of Vogue.

As she explains in the video below, Annie Leibovitz, who needs no further introduction, was assigned by Vogue to visit the set of Baz Luhrmann's Australia, the director's sweeping Western that stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

It bears pointing out that if there are only five people in the world obsessed with visual detail and photographic aesthetics, the other three are sitting at the the table with Baz and Leibovitz. That's just a deadly combination, as these beautiful photographs more than prove. I believe they're meant to capture the feeling of the story rather than mimic specific scenes.

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman thrived in the harsh elements of her desert photoshoot for U.S. magazine Vogue - despite calling the experience the "roughest thing" she has ever experienced.

Kidman is pictured posing on the set of her upcoming film Australia as she graces the cover of the fashion magazine's July issue. And she insists the elemental experience was liberating.

She says, "It's the roughest thing I ever had to go through. We got caught in a dust storm so bad we couldn't even see. Everybody lived out there for five days in these little silver tents. It was great."

Kidman stars opposite fellow Aussie actor Hugh Jackman in the film, which tells the story of a beautiful aristocrat who has to drive a 2,000-strong herd of cattle across the Australian badlands.
