According to an SEC filing, the Spac will target companies worth north of about $1 billion “with a focus on high quality brands with scalable business models and a direct relationship with an established customer base in the United States.” The idea is to identify targets with operations and Esg-related characteristics that align with the partners’ business strategy of supporting companies that currently have or have the potential to generate a positive social impact along with potential to grow and create shareholder value.

He stirred the pot while speaking at the 2014 Cannes Lions Festival this week after his remarks about famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, and now it looks like Kanye West is backtracking on his negative comments.
On Tuesday, the 37-year-old rapper said that the Vogue photographer “pulled out of” his wedding with Kim Kardashian the day before the ceremony. As a result, Kanye was forced to retouch the couple’s first kiss photo for four days after the Italian event before posting it to Instagram.
After West’s comments caused a ruckus, Annie and Kanye released a joint statement, which read:
Kanye West's comments about Annie Leibovitz while speaking at the 2014 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival have been taken out of context and sensationalized.
Although Kanye expressed frustration that he was not able to collaborate with Annie Leibovitz at his recent wedding, he is not assigning blame, and is not accusing Annie in any way.

Looks like there aren't any pre-wedding jitters here! Kanye West "never looked happier" at a book party with pals yesterday evening. E! News has learned that the rapper was with a close group of friends to celebrate businessman Ben Horowitz's latest release, The Hard Thing About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers. An eyewitness tells us that while West is normally more downtrodden at such events, he was "talking to everyone and was in such an incredible mood." The onlooker added, "I've never seen him smile more. You could tell he was just really happy to be there." Guests at the bash enjoyed snacks from L.A. eatery Lucques...

South by Southwest Interactive, once the nerdy kid brother of the SXSW music festival, has grown up to be Charles Atlas-strong. Since 2007 — the year Twitter broke — attendance at the Austin interactive fest has grown nearly fivefold to more than 30,000. Old-timers will grouse that SXSWi has morphed from a place for tech startups to share knowledge and innovations to an overly commercial clusterfuck. But the 2014 edition, which wrapped up earlier this week, was still capable of eliciting surprise and delight — in addition to the occasional feeling of deep embarrassment.

Defending the $8.5 billion Microsoft paid for Skype, investor Ben Horowitz suggests rivalry from Google and Apple had no impact on Skype's success. It was the resilience of the service itself in the face of serious competition. That's what lead Horowitz's firm and a group of others to fund Skype with $2 billion just two years ago, despite heavy criticism. In other words, he's celebrating a ... let's see, carry the 1 ... $6.5 billion "I told ya so."
Horowitz responded to the news of the deal with a blog post that sets out some of the details of his firm's decision in mid-2009. The computer giant just scooped up the Web phone service Skype in a bid to catch up to Google and Apple-and crowned Marc Andreessen, its main investor, the new king of tech.
There are a lot of winners in today's sale of Skype to Microsoft, but the biggest one has to be Marc Andreessen, the entrepreneur-turned-venture-capitalist whose firm, Andreessen-Horowitz, invested in Skype in 2009 and is now tripling its money after only 18 months.

Think enterprise software is humdrum? Aaron Levie and crew are bringing the sexy back.
The debate about whether most companies will, in fact, one day move a significant chunk of their operations to the cloud continues to rage long and hard. But if you needed any indication that it will without a doubt happen, take a gander at this: Box.net, the cloud-based file storage and collaboration service aimed at businesses, just netted a whopping $48 million in funding. (And that's on top of a little more than $30 million it had already racked up from venture capitalists.)
That's a pretty big chunk of change for a company that's operating in the humdrum backwater of enterprise software. But co-founder and CEO Aaron Levie tells Fast Company that enough people in the business world are excited about what they're building (5 million to be exact) that it's time to set their sites on the international market.

If you want to build an important company, then at some point you have to scale. Foursquare has, as rumored, raised a chunk of venture cash that'll let it expand its business significantly, and fast too. But what exactly is so hot about this hot-topic location-based game tech? Unusually we have Vc insight on the matter.
We'd heard about the rumors last week, and they were immediately interesting as Foursquare seems to be busily rocketing to success in the location-based "check in" game that's got many a smartphone-owner playing along. Foursquare's business model is a treat all by itself, as the company is pursuing high-profile advertising partners to try to build its game into a more involving "user experience" via ads, rather than opting for the simpler Google-like system of merely maximizing ad exposure.
Foursquare's own co-founder and CEO Denis Crowley blogged about the news and revealed some interesting stuff, charting Foursquare's meteoric rise from a kitchen-table business start just a year ago. "Today we closed...

Location-based social networking game Foursquare has had a great year. They've got 1.8 million users, adding about 10,000 more every day. They've secured partnerships with tons of private companies, including Starbucks, Zagat, Bravo, and the New York Times Company, and have so far fought off rivals like Gowalla and Loopt.
Perhaps that's why Silicon Valley veterans Andreessen Horowitz (Marc Andreessen is a co-founder of Netscape) decided to become major investors. Along with Foursquare's existing benefactors like O'Reilly and Union Square Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz scrounged up $20 million in funding for Foursquare, just as predicted. Says Ben Horowitz, the other half of Andreessen Horowitz (duh):
"There are already over 200 million smartphones out there and growing fast,” he said. “We’d like to see them build out the company to capture that opportunity."
Foursquare has apparently decided not to sell to another company (there've been rumors involving both Facebook and Yahoo) to focus on their own business.

You're successful. An entrepreneur who nailed your first startup, raising tons of Vc and creating a great product. You feel like a regular Mark Zuckerberg.
But now you've come down with a serious condition: Second Startup Syndrome. Warning: This needs to be treated immediately.
According to Ben Horowitz, cofounder of venture cap firm Andreessen Horowitz, Second Startup Syndrome "occurs when an entrepreneur wants to pick up her second startup right where her first startup left off." As Horowitz explains, this condition starts when entrepreneurs believe they can simply continue their wave of success rather than starting from scratch--that is, founding a startup based on the right product and the right market.
"During this period, there is no glamour and very little breadth--the company must be narrow," Horowitz prescribes on his blog. "Serial entrepreneurs who suffer from Second Startup Syndrome want to skip through the narrow early steps and move quickly...

San Francisco -- Facebook will likely be posting billions of dollars in revenue in five years, up from about $500 million this year, according to Silicon Valley entrepreneur Mark Andreessen who sits on Facebook's board.
Andreessen told Reuters that the world's most popular online social network could pile up $1 billion in revenue this year if it pushed harder on selling advertising.
But he added that it was more important at this stage for social sites like Facebook and Twitter to retain and grow their user base and capture market share, rather than worry too much about making lots of money right away.
"This calendar year they'll do over $500 million," Andreessen said in an interview, noting that Facebook has more than 225 million users, so revenue per user is still small.
"If they pushed the throttle forward on monetization they would be doing more than a billion this year," said Andreessen, who made...
