Selena Gomez admits “I really love to eat, but I’m not the best cook” in her new trailer for Selena + Chef. Renewals
TruTV has renewed comedy series “Tacoma Fd” for a 13-episode third season. The series follows members of a fire department in a city where it often rains, rendering their job somewhat uneventful. Selena Gomez busts out her cooking chops in the new HBO Max series Selena + Chef. From perfecting French omelettes to undercooking cheese soufflés, the singer said that testing her culinary skills helped get her out of the quarantine rut.
“I was definitely getting down and a lot is going on,” the singer said during HBO’s TCA session on Wednesday. “[The show] was an opportunity to make something that could make people smile.”
The Dolittle star, joined by producer Aaron Saidman and chef Antonia Lofaso, shared that her first unscripted series afforded her the skills and confidence to take on challenging dishes. While some of the show’s featured recipes, including one for a spicy miso ramen, have become staples for the singer, Gomez said she intends on staying away from others.
“I really, really didn’t like that. It’s a whole process never doing again in my life,” Gomez said...

HBO Max released the trailer for Selena Gomez’s new cooking show “Selena + Chef” on Wednesday, in which the actress and singer learns to cook (remotely) from 10 celebrity chefs.
Described as an “unapologetically authentic cookalong,” the series sees Gomez joined by 10 world-renowned chefs — Angelo Sosa, Antonia Lofaso, Candice Kumai, Daniel Holzman, Jon & Vinny, Ludo Lefebvre, Nancy Silverton, Nyesha Arrington, Roy Choi and Tonya Holland — to “tackle cuisines of every variety, share invaluable tips and tricks, and deal with everything from smoking ovens to missing ingredients.”
“Having some of the best chefs open up their kitchens to me was a humbling and fun experience,” Gomez said in a statement. “I definitely discovered I have a lot more to learn. I’m also really happy that we were able to highlight and raise money for some incredible charitable organizations.”
The series will debut on HBO Max on Thursday, Aug. 13.

Selena Gomez is a woman of many talents… but if the trailer for her new HBO Max series is any indication, cooking is not one of them. (Not yet, at least.)
The streamer on Wednesday unveiled a full-length promo for Selena + Chef, Gomez’s unscripted culinary series that will drop Thursday, Aug. 13. In each of the 10 episodes, Gomez will be joined remotely by a professional chef as she attempts various meals, learns invaluable tips and encounters obstacles like missing ingredients, smoking ovens and, in at least one case, undercooked food.

Cult filmmaker Larry Cohen is, and has always been, an idea man. Whether commenting on rampant consumerism (The Stuff), religious fanaticism (God Told Me To), or vigilantism (Maniac Cop), Cohen’s films (as director or screenwriter, often both) show an ambition beyond the zippered monsters and flying serpents. And while the biggest caveat regarding Cohen is that his reach often exceeds his grasp, that’s not always true. Case in point: It’s Alive (1974), Cohen’s potent take on abortion, the pharmaceutical industry, and (extremely) unconditional love.
Produced by Warner Bros. and Larco Productions, and distributed by WB, It’s Alive did not wow the executives, who gave it an obligatory release in October with little fanfare. And it did okay business for the small release it was granted. When a new regime came in to WB in ’77, Cohen asked them to take another look at the film – he felt...

Does anyone remember the horrendous spaghetti recipe (called "sketti) from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? Wait, scratch that. Does anyone remember the show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? Well back in the day, Mama June used to make a special dish that her kids loved, and it had three ingredients: dried spaghetti, ketchup and butter. Sounds kind of vomit-inducing, doesn't it? Well, we thought so, too, until a professional cook made the dish himself and discovered that it's actually pretty good. Eater enlisted the talents of New York chef Daniel Holzman to recreate Honey Boo Boo's favorite meal on their "Real Chefs Cook Dumb Recipes" series. He kept it all very authentic, right down to the...

[This week's "Retro Active" pick is inspired by the star-studded babies-'a-poppin' rom-com What to Expect When You're Expecting.]
Never has a movie made having children seem less appealing than It's Alive, Larry Cohen's terrifying examination of personal and parental anxieties. Cohen's genre gem is unquestionably a horror film, but its mutant-monster terror is its least scary element, not to mention the one Cohen cares least about, a fact made plain from a prolonged introduction sequence in which Lenore (Sharon Farrell) awakens in the middle of the night to inform husband Frank (John Ryan) that the baby is ready to go. That news instigates preparations to depart to the hospital, including getting dressed, packing up clothes, and waking their 11-year-old son Chris (Daniel Holzman) and taking him to stay with friend Charley (William Wellman Jr.), arrangements that Cohen depicts with a laid-back sweetness—be it Frank sticking a cat in slumbering Chris' face, or affecting a jokey Western patois as they drive through the night...

Jersey Shore's favorite meatballs, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Deena Cortese, stopped by The Meatball Shop in New York with In Touch magazine to see if they could really make the Italian favorite. The duo received a cooking lesson from the Shop's co-owners, Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow.
"It feels like an old lady breast!" Snooki said of the ground meat. "It's in my fingernails; I'll save some for later," Deena joked.
They both apparently did surprisingly well. "I used to cook with my mom and grandma," Snooki explained of her culinary skills.
So how did Snooki and Deena get nicknamed as the "meatballs?" It was all thanks to their Jersey Shore co-star, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro.
"We were fighting, and he said, 'You guys look like meatballs,'" they said. "We decided to turn it around and make it positive. Now girls with curves want to be called 'meatballs!'"...
