Nearly one year after one of the worst mass shootings in United States history, the movie theater where the massacre took place has reopened for business but a memorial has yet to take shape and some, including one employee of Cinemark, are unhappy about it.
According to a BuzzFeed report, a Reddit user claiming to be an employee of the Aurora theater where 12 died and 70 were injured last summer during a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" hosted an Ask Me Anything chat.
Asked whether the theater had built a memorial to the victims of the shooting, the user named Rorschachismyhubby replied that there isn't and expressed a a wish to have one.
We get crap for this alot (sic), the mayor asked us not to as he wanted to handle it as a community event and not a commercial business' memorial. Besides, the company would have to buy...

Aurora, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado theater where 12 people were killed and dozens injured in a shooting rampage last year reopened Thursday with a somber remembrance ceremony and a screening of the latest "Hobbit" film for survivors — but the pain was too much, the idea too horrific, for many Aurora victims to attend. "We as a community have not been defeated," Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan told victims, officials, and dozens of police officers and other first responders who filled half the theater's seats at the ceremony. "We are a community of survivors," Hogan declared. "We will not let this...

Family members of those who were killed in the Aurora movie theater shooting sent an angry letter to Cinemark after being invited to "a special evening of remembrance" and a movie in the theater where their loved ones were massacred.
Relatives of eight of the victims signed the letter, saying they were especially angry that the invitations to the theater's reopening night were received so soon after the holidays.
During the holiday we didn't think anyone or anything could make our grief worse but you, Cinemark, have managed to do just that by sending us an invitation two days after Christmas inviting us to attend the re-opening of your theater in Aurora where our loved ones were massacred. Thanks for making what is a very difficult holiday season that much more difficult. Timing is everything and yours is awful...

There was breaking news this morning out of Newtown, Connecticut when at least one gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School. CBS News is reporting that a minimum of 27 people were killed in this massacre, including an estimated 18 young children.
Lt. J. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police held a press conference to assure concerned citizens that "the scene is secure" and "the shooter is deceased inside the building." Twenty-year-old Adam Lanza has reportedly emerged as the gunman. Brother Ryan, 24, had previously been named as the suspect, but sources are now telling the Associated Press that after being questioned by police it was determined that he was not involved. Their mother was a teacher at the school and is presumed to be one of the fatalities. An additional investigation is ongoing at another location, where one more victim was allegedly killed. The two crime scenes are thought to be linked. President Obama has been...

Moviegoers wounded when gunman opened fire at screening of The Dark Knight Rises sue owner of theater, Cinemark USA
Three Colorado moviegoers who were wounded when a gunman opened fire at a July screening of The Dark Knight Rises on Friday sued the owner of the theater, Cinemark USA, accusing it of failing to provide adequate security, their lawyers said.
The action marks the first known civil lawsuits filed over the 20 July shootings at a suburban Denver screening of the Batman movie that killed 12 people and wounded 58 others.
James Holmes, a 24-year-old former neuroscience graduate student at the University of Colorado, has been charged with murder and attempted murder in the case.
"Readily available security procedures, security equipment and security personnel would likely have prevented or deterred the gunman from accomplishing his planned assault on the theater's patrons," the law firm of Keating, Wagner, Polidori and Free said in a written statement.

Three people wounded in the shooting that killed 12 people at a Colorado theater have filed lawsuits alleging the exit door the gunman used to enter the building should have had an alarm.
Two lawsuits were filed Friday in U.S. District Court on behalf of Denise Traynom, Brandon Axelrod and Joshua Nowlan. Their attorney, former Denver judge Christina Habas, declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Cinemark USA Inc. had no immediate comment.

Aurora Police, first responders, FBI agents and firemen gathered at the victims' memorial site across from the Century 16 movie theater Wednesday night. For many officers, it was the first time they had visited the memorial centered around 12 white crosses brought by an Illinois man who'd placed 15 crosses at Columbine High School in 1999.
At the memorial site in Aurora, officers bowed their heads in prayer and solidarity with victims' families.
Shooting survivor Harmony Johnson, who had just been released from the hospital, was happy to see the officers there.
From CBS4 Denver:
Johnson felt she is speaking for everyone when she said “true heroes do come with badges, not with capes.”
The memorial has been growing daily with flowers, balloons, stuffed animals and heartfelt notes. Visitors to the memorial so far have included Gov. John Hickenlooper, Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates, Batman actor Christian Bale and his wife, Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan and others.

After meeting with family members of victims of the shooting in Aurora, Colo., President Barack Obama on Sunday told the moving story of two young women who survived.
According to Obama, 19-year-old Allie Young and her best friend, Stephanie Davies, 21, were sitting just a few feet away from where suspected gunman James Holmes threw canisters during a midnight screening Friday of "The Dark Knight Rises." Young, sensing she should warn others, stood up and was immediately shot.
"She was shot in the neck, and it punctured a vein and immediately she started spurting blood," Obama said in a speech Sunday night. "And apparently as she dropped down on the floor, Stephanie -- 21 years old -- had the presence of mind to drop down on the ground with her, pull her out of the aisle, place her fingers over where she --where Allie had been wounded, and applied pressure the entire...

Washington — President Barack Obama again steps into the role of consoler-in-chief during a visit Sunday with distraught families of those gunned down in a minute and a half of horror at a midnight movie showing in Colorado.
While authorities gather evidence on the suspect and the nation tries to fathom what drove the gunman, Obama planned to meet with loved ones struggling with pain and grief.
"We need to embrace them and let them know we will be there for them as a nation," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address.
During the brief visit, just under 2 1/2 hours, he planned to meet with officials in Aurora, where the shots rang out at a multiplex theater early Friday. Twelve of the victims died, and dozens were injured.
"I think the president coming in is a wonderful gesture," said Aurora's mayor, Steve Hogan. "He's coming in, really, to have private conversations with the families.
