The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon had a pretty stellar musical moment last night when St. Vincent teamed up with house band The Roots to cover Portishead’s classic “Glory Box.” Watch the performance below.
Covering a song as unforgettable as “Glory Box” is certainly no easy task, but St. Vincent does Portishead justice with her faithful rendition. She doesn’t do too much to tweak the source material — why mess with perfection? — but the sultry sheen and electric guitar flourishes are right up St. Vincent’s alley. If you weren’t already convinced Portishead were ahead of their time, here’s some more proof.
“Glory Box” appears on Portishead’s 1994 debut album Dummy. The trip-hop pioneers have been largely defunct for the last decade, but they reunited last year to perform at a Ukraine benefit concert alongside Idles, Katy J Pearson, and Heavy Lungs.
St. Vincent loves a cover.

Last week’s episode of Ru Paul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race saw the mystery contestants being paired with some of the most iconic queens to ever appear on Drag Race. Sadly after being paired with the incredibly talented Gottmik, we saw Millie Von Sunshine being told to sashay away but before she could exit the building she had to reveal who was behind all the make-up. It turned out that it was none other than the amazing Jenna Ushkowitz who is probably best known for playing Tina in the hit musical series Glee! I do have to say it was quite sad to see Jenna leave the completion as her iconic lip-sync to “Dancing On My Own” will forever be one of the most memorable performances to come from this season but I do think the correct person was eliminated! On the other end of the competition, however, was...

Spotify has launched a Netflix hub with soundtracks, playlists, podcasts and exclusive content related to programming on the streaming video service.
The hub is accessible to both free and premium Spotify subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and India.
Spotify has 381 million monthly active users and 172 million subscribers in 184 global markets. Netflix, the leader in streaming video, has about 214 million subscribers.
The hub is seen as a joint promotional initiative and did not involve any money changing hands between the companies, which have collaborated in the past.
“It’s clear that after the credits roll, viewers are left wanting even more—and they come to Spotify to hear it,” the audio streamer said in announcing the hub. Within two weeks of the premiere of Squid Game on Netflix earlier this fall, Spotify said, listeners to its service had made more than 22,500 unique, themed playlists dedicated to the show.

Midway into the 2019 Grammy Awards, the show’s host, Alicia Keys, sang a medley of songs that she wished she’d written. She kicked it off by playing “The Entertainer” on two grand pianos, one black, one white, sitting between them on a stool. “I wanna welcome you to Club Keys,” she said.
“I’ve been thinking so much about the people and the music that have inspired me, and I want to give a shout out to Hazel Scott because I always wanted to play two pianos. But back to the music.

Tony Goldwyn, whose six-year run on Scandal wrapped up this month, will be feted in June at the Greenwich International Film Festival.
The fledgling festival 40 miles northeast of New York City began in 2015. The spotlight conversation with Goldwyn, sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Film, Television and Digital Media, will touch on Goldwyn’s philanthropic efforts in addition to his career. Goldwyn has been active for 15 years in Americares, which provides health and medical services for people hit by poverty or disaster.
“I am excited Greenwich International Film Festival is giving me the opportunity to share with others the incredible work Americares is doing to make struggling communities healthier and more prosperous,” Goldwyn said.

Before he was an actor starring in blockbusters such as The Dark Knight Rises and Dunkirk, Tom Hardy was an aspiring rapper.
And now, fans can take a listen to his mixtape that was unearthed nearly 20 years since Hardy, known back then as Tommy No 1, co-created it with Edward Tracy, the BAFTA-winning writer and director of the popular Fonejacker and Facejacker television shows.

Former member of the The Fugees, Wyclef Jean, might be about to announce his candidacy for the Haitian presidential race, just in time for the election on November 28. We’d like to join everyone in Haiti by saying: “Wha? The ‘Gone ‘Til November’ guy? ” and scratching our heads. As out of left field as this might seem (to us at least), Haitian-born Jean has dedicated much of his time and energy since 2005 working on his Yéle Haiti Foundation, and has worked diligently to rally support for disaster survivors since the earthquake earlier this year. Plenty of politicians have started out as performers: Representative Sonny Bono, President Ronald Regan, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Under Secretary of Defense Dora the Explorer. While we believe that anyone can do anything they put their minds to (not so fast, Seacrest), we can’t help by think that Haiti might be better served by someone who...

The group of finalists on American Idol is slowly dwindling. Last night, contestant Megan Joy was sent home, bringing the group down to the final eight. This didn’t come as a total shock after hearing Megan’s performance the previous night, in which she picked the Bob Marly-Lauren Hill collaboration Turn Your Lights Down Low. The theme was American Top 40, where the contestants were given the chance to pick probably the widest range of songs yet. But the song choices were, for the most part, all shot down by the judges. The two big exceptions of the...
