In the "Futurama" episode "A Fishful of Dollars", Fry (Billy West) remembers that he had 93 cents in his savings account when he was cryogenically frozen in 1999. After a thousand years of .25% interest, however, that amount had grown into a fortune of 4.3 billion dollars. Thankfully, inflation hasn't kept pace, and Fry is suddenly one of the wealthiest people on the planet. As anyone with abrupt access to a massive fortune might, Fry immediately begins to squander his riches on frivolous things. He buys the Mona Lisa merely so he may use it as a clay pigeon for skeet shooting. He tries to recreate a slobby, 20th-century apartment just as he remembered it. Most notably, he buys an ancient can of anchovies at auction, a valuable commodity indeed, given that anchovies went extinct many years before. The anchovies, still sealed, are guaranteed to be edible.
Unbeknownst to Fry, however, the anchovies are...

Mike Judge and his Office Space cast reunited at South by Southwest Film & TV Festival for a panel discussion March 9 sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter about the beloved and influential film — a title that arguably reinvented the workplace comedy for the modern age and popularized the concept of quiet quitting. While the panel discussion tackled several intriguing aspects about the film’s creation and reception (some highlights below), Judge revealed a few extra tidbits at the post-panel reception at Austin’s The Statesman restaurant.
Asked if there was anything he would change about the film (which was famously difficult to get made, with the writer-director fending off a blizzard of studio executive Tps reports, er, notes), Judge offhandedly noted he hasn’t seen his film since before it was released in 1999. "Office Space," Mike Judge's satirical take on white collar office culture, disappointed at the box office but soon became a cult favorite after it arrived in 1999. That was mostly thanks to home video sales and Comedy Central airing the film multiple times after its theatrical run. But "Office Space" thoroughly deserved whatever cult status it attained, because it always felt very much ahead of its time.
The film stars Ron Livingston as Peter Gibbons, a put-upon programmer who spends his days amid the bleakly oppressive environs of software company Initech. After being hypnotized to stop caring about his job, Peter takes a lackadaisical approach to work and surprisingly begins to climb his way up the corporate ladder. Office Space is celebrating its 25th anniversary following its delayed path to success, although hopefully no one would get their ass kicked for saying something like that.
Released Feb. 19, 1999, director Mike Judge’s enduring and endlessly quotable workplace satire follows computer programmer Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston), who decides to stop caring about his day job and teams up with Initech co-workers Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) to defraud the company. The Fox comedy — featuring such on-the-rise performers as Jennifer Aniston, John C. McGinley, Gary Cole and Stephen Root — collected just $10 million at the time but became a cult favorite after finding a following through cable and home video.
Other standouts from the cast include Richard Riehle as engineer liaison Tom Smykowski, who defends his job (“I have people skills!”) to Paul Willson and McGinley as the two Bobs who are put in charge of layoffs. In...

Former First Lady Hillary Clinton posted an encouraging message addressed to Barbie duo Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie on Wednesday morning in response to their high-profile snubs amongst the nominations for this year’s Oscars.
“Greta & Margot. While it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold,” Clinton began her note on X and Instagram, “your millions of fans love you.”
Clinton ended her message with a reference to Ryan Gosling’s now-Oscar-nominated Barbie tune “I’m Just Ken.” She said: “You’re both so much more than Kenough.”

Barbie scored a total of eight Oscar nominations Tuesday morning, but Gerwig was not named in the Best Director category and Robbie didn’t land a Best Actress nom. Having co-written Barbie alongside Noah Baumbach, Gerwig did receive a nom in the Adapted Screenplay category.

Ryan Gosling is sharing his thoughts after Barbie star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were snubbed by the Oscars.
Although Barbie scored a total of eight nominations, Gerwig was not named in the Best Director category and Robbie didn’t land a Best Actress nom.
“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films,” said Gosling, who is up for Best Supporting Actor. “And I never thought I’d being saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.”

Fans of "Futurama" might have noticed the Number 9 Man early on. He was a bald man with mauve skin and a grey beard wearing a long white nightshirt with the number 9 emblazoned on it. He could be seen in backgrounds and crowd scenes, yet another unusual feature in the bizarro, alien-riddled "Futurama" landscape. His number 9 was a mystery, and the character didn't have any lines or significant part to play until the 2009 "Futurama" movie "Into the Wild Green Yonder." Sci-fi fans might have posited (as this author did) that the Number 9 Man was a reference to the classic 1967 sci-fi series "The Prisoner," wherein Patrick McGoohan plays an ex-spy who was unexpectedly imprisoned in a bizarre carnival town and rechristened Number 6.
While "Futurama" co-creators David X. Cohen and Matt Groening would likely be flattered by the comparison to "The Prisoner" -- they are undoubtedly fans -- it seems that the Number...

In the world of "Futurama," no one is allowed to utter the words "Star Trek" without facing arrest and severe legal penalties. It seems that by the year 3000, Trekkies had gone from being a loose-knit group of geeks to being a full-blown religion. After years of a Trekkie religion, schisms began to form in the church, leading to inevitable and prolonged Holy Wars. To solve the problem once and for all, humanity agreed to load every episode of the original series onto a rocket and launch them into deep space where they would never darken humanity's doorstep again. The severed heads of William Shatner, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, DeForest Kelley, and George Takei -- all of them kept alive in jars -- were also loaded onto a rocket and sent into space. Leonard Nimoy's head stayed on Earth and took a job in the local Head Museum. James Doohan's fate was not shared,...

You can’t keep Futurama down. The animated series developed by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen has cheated death time and time again, and it’s been announced that Hulu has renewed Futurama for two more seasons.
Futurama has been picked up for an additional 20 episodes, which will serve as seasons 13 and 14 (or 10 and 11). Hulu originally ordered 20 episodes of Futurama last year, and the first 10 episodes wrapped up their run in September. So this renewal means that fans have 30 more episodes of Futurama to look forward to. Good news indeed.

"Futurama" has never been shy about tackling current events and season 11 is no different. Fresh off satirizing Amazon and online shopping two episodes ago, the series' latest episode — "Rage Against The Vaccine" — is about the Covid-19 pandemic.
In this episode, Planet Earth (and Planet Express) deal with the outbreak of a new virus, dubbed Explovid-23. The virus, spread through nebulous means, apparently originates from the Sewer Mutants. Quarantining the sewers doesn't contain it, though, because Leela (Katey Sagal) was visiting her parents and becomes a superspreader when she returns to the surface.
Half the episode is Hermes (Phil Lamarr), convinced the virus is a form of zombie-ism, trying to find a cure with Voodoo. The other half is Covid jokes, several of them centered around the show's resident scientist, Professor Farnsworth (Billy West). I wouldn't say all these jokes are home runs, but (or even because) they'll be familiar to...

The newest episode of "Futurama," called "Rage Against the Vaccine," is 25 minutes of every Covid-19 anxiety all rolled into a condensed ball. "Rage" opens with a celebration hosted by the head of Bill Nye (himself), finally declaring that Covid-19 has been defeated. Note that "Futurama" takes place in the year 3023. "It's felt like a thousand years," Nye says. "It was actually a little longer," Bender (John Dimaggio) corrects him. Given some recent reports about new variants and new spikes in Covid-19, that prediction feels dismayingly accurate.
But now that Covid-19 has been defeated, there's a new pandemic at play: Explovid-23. This is a virus that causes coughing and sneezing, but also an attack of inexplicable rage and a desire to punch others in the face. This, also, feels dismayingly accurate. The characters all test for the disease by swabbing their noses with enormous Q-tips, and it's revealed that Leela (Katey Sagal) has contracted it.

The most evil villain in Matt Groening's and David X. Cohen's animated sci-fi comedy "Futurama" is undoubtedly Mom (Tress MacNeille), the wicked corporate tyrant who aims to own everything in the universe. In public, Mom wears a grandmotherly gown, complete with a bustle, and spends her time hawking "homemade" goods with a gentle, old-world, rustic charm. As soon as Mom is back in her office, however, she removes her gown -- it turns out it's a robotic suit akin to the one worn by Iron Man -- and transforms into her true self: a rail-thin, chain-smoking, Cruella de Vil-like monster who slaps her children and invents unusual cusses.
Mom has three bumbling adult children named Walt, Larry, and Igner whom she forces to stand in a line so she can slap them all with only one swing of the arm. As "Futurama" progressed, it would also be revealed...

Showtime has announced the release date of their upcoming limited series “Fellow Travelers,” starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. The eight-episode drama will premiere on Oct. 27.
Created by Academy Award nominee Ron Nyswaner and based on Thomas Mallon’s novel of the same name, “Fellow Travelers” is both a romance and a political thriller, depicting the secret relationship between two men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington. Bomer plays Hawkins Fuller, a man with a lucrative behind-the-scenes job in politics, and Bailey plays an idealistic, religious young man. Their romance begins at the same time that Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants.” The show tracks the protagonists over four decades, through the Vietnam War protests, the drugs and disco of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

Shut up and take my money! The official Fortnite Twitter account is teasing a Futurama and Fortnite crossover event beginning tomorrow, July 26! The text in the post reads, “All Hail Hypnotoad. 7.26.23.” The interactive event will help celebrate Hulu’s Futurama revival, which kicked off on Monday, July 24.
Details about the Futurama and Fortnite crossover remain a mystery. Still, if this event is like any other, players can expect wacky character skins, cosmetics, gliders, and unique locations on the ever-changing map. Can we expect character skins for Fry, Bender, Leela, Zoidberg, and the rest of the crew? How about a Planet Express glider to ride into the action? Will characters like Amy Wong, Hermes Conrad, Professor Farnsworth, Zapp Branigan, Kif Kroker, and Nibbler be a part of the event? Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to find out.

Futurama is back (again), this time for its eleventh season, and on Hulu for the first time. After its humble beginnings on Fox, its direct-to-video revival, and its stint on Comedy Central in 2010, the show is looking to return, but now on a streaming service. Following its (fourth) series finale, the show lived on with reruns on SyFy, Fxx, and Adult Swim (once again); Hulu looked to revive Matt Groening‘s animated series in 2022. After a lot of drama and controversy regarding non-competitive compensation, a fair wage was met, and John Dimaggio (who voices Bender) returned alongside the whole gang of Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille (Mom), Maurice Lamarche (Kroker), Lauren Tom (Amy), Phil Lamarr (Hermes), and David Herman (Scruffy). Now all ten episodes of Season 11 are available on July 24, and we’re wondering: how many people are still on the Planet Express shuttle? It’s not...
