Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are on board, and signs are that the MCU may give the superheroes the film they deserve
There is an argument that Marvel would never have flourished in quite the same way had the studio not got its casting right from (almost) the very beginning. While Ed Norton never seemed the right fit as Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk in 2008, it was the signing of Robert Downey Jr in the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man that inspired the newly Disney-owned outfit to embark on a decade-long run of smartly interconnected, far-out superhero epics that redefined the genre. Marvel made the careers of the previously little-known Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Chris Evans (Captain America), re-appropriated high-end TV talent in the shape of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and turned heroes of indie cinema such as Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and...

Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan is one of the more complex characters on the classic Korean war sitcom "M*A*S*H," growing from one of the series' antagonists into another truly beloved member of the 4077th, and that is in large part thanks to the woman who portrayed her, Loretta Swit. Not only did Swit give Margaret more depth than many of her early episodes had written on the page through her performance, but she also was deeply protective of the character and went to bat for her against the writers and producers if she felt something wasn't appropriate. She helped develop the character beyond being a one-note, somewhat misogynistic joke and even gave Margaret her best character arc. The evolution from the early seasons with an alternatively icy and lusty Hot Lips to her later season incarnations is truly impressive, and according to Swit, part of that came with putting her foot down.

Just over a year after suffering a horrific snowplow accident on New Year’s Day that shattered 38 bones and left his life in limbo, Jeremy Renner will show off his miraculous recovery to an estimated audience of 113 million. This Sunday, viewers will see his first Super Bowl ad, for Silk Protein, a product the dairy-avoiding Avenger says he has been drinking for years and which he credits in part for his Lazarus-like resuscitation. The 30-second spot, titled “Silk Feel Planty Good” will give his fans plenty to parse. It turns his morning ritual — preparing his protein shake — into a fast-paced action sequence as he slices strawberries in mid-air, high kicks, dances on the table, and sings a version of James Brown’s “I Feel Good” that imbues the lyrics with profound new meaning. He then flings a wooden spoon with Hawkeye-worthy aim into a carton of Silk, inches...

Reflecting on his near-fatal snow plow accident over a year after the incident, Jeremy Renner said he will be “strong enough” to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jeremy Renner, a beloved character in the MCU as Hawkeye, last appeared in live-action in the ‘Hawkeye’ show. Despite his recent role as a voice actor in ‘What If…?’ Season 2 Episode ‘What If…Happy Hogan Saved Christmas,’ concerns about his physical health have persisted for almost a year.
On January 1, 2023, Renner faced a severe accident at home involving his snowplow, leading to blunt chest trauma and 30 broken bones. Weighing 14,330 pounds, the snowplow ran over him, necessitating his airlift to Renown Regional Medical Center. After undergoing surgery, he remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Fortunately, by January 17, he was discharged and back home. Ten weeks later, Renner began walking with a cane, with doctors crediting his survival to his robust health and fitness.

One of television's greatest cads is Army surgeon Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce, played by Alan Alda, on the classic sitcom series M*A*S*H. He's almost always hooking up with one nurse or another, but in one special episode, audiences got to see what happened when a woman truly captured his heart. In the season 4 episode "The More I See You," a nurse named Carlye ends up working in the Mash 4077 unit, and Hawkeye recognized her as the only woman (at that point) he had ever loved. She broke his heart and might even explain why he has such a negative view of marriage and even monogamy throughout the series, and their reunion is as chaotic as you might expect.
Carlye is played by actor Blythe Danner in the episode, and she's absolutely fantastic. She manages to feel totally at home in the world of "M*A*S*H...

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are familiar with the running debate about who is the strongest Avenger. That’s one of those questions that has a lot of different answers, and we could debate it for weeks. But we’re posing a different question today: Who is the richest member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes based on their estimated net worth?
Since assembling for the first time in 2012′s The Avengers, the lineup of the team has constantly changed between movies, and it continues to moving into 2024.
Of course, fans know and love the core group – Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye). However, so many other favorites have been added on along the way as the original group began to hang up their costumes, seemingly for good.

When Jeremy Renner Felt Like An Extra While Doing The Avengers ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
The Avengers is one of the biggest comic book movies, which assembled several Marvel superheroes in one movie, allegedly for the first time in the history of cinema. It had an ensemble cast, and it is natural for someone to be clueless in such a big crowd. Jeremy Renner once, in an interview, revealed he felt lost while doing the Joss Whedon-helmed MCU movie. Renner is known for playing the character of Hawkeye, aka Clint Barton, in the blockbuster franchise.
Renner made his MCU debut in 2011 in Chris Hemsworth led Thor. In the 2012 movie, Renner’s character was full-fledgedly introduced, and we also got a glimpse of Clint and Natasha’s heartwarming friendship. It continued through several films until Avengers: Endgame. Jeremy initially hated his character and did several things to get out of it.

Hollywood star Jeremy Renner, who over a year ago was critically injured in a snow plow accident, says he’s learned to embrace a softer side. “I certainly got a lot of callousness squashed out of me by that machine,” he tells People while discussing his new Super Bowl commercial for Silk.

Marvel Comics’ “Black Widow & Hawkeye” #1, available March 13, 2024 is written by Stephanie Phillips and illustrated by Paolo Villanelli, with covers by Artgerm and Stephen Segovia:
“…even when ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Hawkeye’ had no one to trust, they still had each other - even though their paths sometimes diverged. So when ‘Clint Barton’ is accused of a rogue assassination attempt that puts the US and Madripoor at odds, a symbiote-equipped ‘Natasha Romanoff’ thinks nothing of coming to his aid.
“But as echoes of their past ripple into the present, it will take all their faith in each other - and the lessons learned along the way - to protect their futures…”

The groundbreaking television sitcom version of "M*A*S*H" may have been centered on the Korean War, but it famously ran for 11 years, over three times as long as the war. Like a lot of series, the length of its run led to significant tonal shifts as writers and actors left the show and new creatives came on. In particular, "M*A*S*H" went from an acidic, satirical portrait of military cynicism at a mobile surgical unit (the 4077th) to a much more earnestly anti-war show.
You can trace a lot of those changes in the ways the series' characters changed and developed. In the first half of the show, most of the folk who work at the 4077th are either bureaucratic blowhards like Majors Frank Burns (Larry Linville) and Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan (Loretta Swit) or nihilistic, hedonist heroes like "Hawkeye" Pierce (Alan Alda). Surrounded by war and death, the characters had extremes to lean into,...

Echo is a good show; it’s just not the one Marvel needs right now. The Disney+ series represented so much coming out the gate as a spinoff from Hawkeye, the first entry in Marvel’s new Spotlight imprint, as well as a springboard for everyone’s favorite hero from the Netflix regime, Daredevil, before Born Again. More importantly, its focus on a deaf and physically handicapped villain of Native American descent looked as though it would be a more grounded, criminal underworld affair, steering away from the MCU’s current storylines filled with complicated multiverse stories and the usual superhero fare. Then, the episode opens with an ancient, supernatural figure underground, surrounded by other supernatural figures. We love how Maya Lopez’s (Alaqua Cox) powers and their origin run parallel to her heritage (these underground beings), as it ties into the series’ overarching themes of family and Choctaw tradition.

Bethesda and MachineGames recently unveiled a long-awaited video game in the form of "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." The legendary video game studio behind "Fallout" and "Skyrim" has been working on a game set within the action/adventure franchise for several years, with the game originally announced back in 2021. But now, we know much more including when the story takes place, what the player can expect, and, rather crucially, who is voicing Indiana Jones. It won't be Harrison Ford, but another icon has stepped up to fill those very big shoes.
Troy Baker will be the man tasked with bringing Indy to life in the much-anticipated game. Ford, for his part, left the role behind with his final turn as the character in last year's "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." Now, it falls to Baker, who will get to put his stamp on the hero during his classic era,...

No one has a story quite like Echo star Alaqua Cox.
Despite no prior acting experience, Cox, at the encouragement of friends, auditioned on a lark for a coded project that was looking for somebody exactly like her: “an Indigenous deaf woman in their 20s.” Cox then went through a three-month audition process for what would become the supporting role of Maya Lopez on Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye. The brass at Marvel were so impressed by Cox that development of her own spinoff series, Echo, was fast-tracked within a few months of her Hawkeye casting and the beginning of that series’ production.
Cox grew up on the Menominee Indian Reservation in Keshena, Wisconsin, and just three years after her Marvel casting became public, she’s already seeing the impact that Indigenous representation is having back home.

Even though Charlie Cox, who played the Marvel Comics character Matt Murdock / Daredevil on the Daredevil series that was made for the Netflix streaming service (and is now available on Disney+) has since reprised the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Vincent D’Onofrio also reprised the role of the villainous Wilson Fisk / Kingpin in the Hawkeye series, it hasn’t been clear whether or not that Daredevil show would really be considered part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity. When the eighteen episode MCU / Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again went into production with Cox and D’Onofrio in the lead roles, it was apparently branching off in directions that wouldn’t exactly match what had been seen in the Netflix show. But then the writers strike hit, causing Daredevil: Born Again to stop filming for a while… and during the break, Marvel executives watched the...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the finale of Marvel Studios’ Echo.
“Generations are echoing, reaching out to us at a time when we need them most.”
Those are the words of wisdom imparted on Maya Lopez [Alaqua Cox] by her grandmother Chula [Tantoo Cardinal] as she grapples with how to relinquish herself from the pain of her past and embrace the parts of herself she was never able to after she and her father were exiled from their reservation.
It’s one of several scenes in the final two episodes of Marvel’s Echo that pack an emotional punch, cracking Maya open until she’s no longer the heartless assassin audiences first met in Hawkeye.
Cox had never acted before she was cast as Maya, so Echo represents more than just her first time as No. 1 on a call sheet. It was also the first time she’d...

Echo star Vincent D’Onofrio isn’t ready to say whether Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk has been healed by Maya Lopez.
At the end of Disney+ and Hulu’s five-episode miniseries, Echo, Maya (Alaqua Cox) utilizes the powers of her Choctaw ancestors to enter Fisk’s mind and potentially heal him of his childhood trauma involving his abusive father and the ball-peen hammer he used to stop him. Once Maya releases Fisk from her grip, he desperately wants to know what she’s done to him, but he’s whisked away before the police arrive on the scene.
At this moment, D’Onofrio can’t give the game away, especially with Daredevil: Born Again still en route.
“That’s a good question, but I can’t answer that question. That question is boxed up in a lot of other stuff, and I can’t open that box,” D’Onofrio tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

Created by Marion Dayre and currently streaming on Disney+, Echo is the tenth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It centres on Maya Lopez / Echo (Alaqua Cox), the deaf Native American assassin, who was created in 1999 and made her live-action MCU debut in the Hawkeye TV series in 2021.
The pilot episode quickly gets viewers up to speed on Maya’s background and her close connection to crimelord Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). As the events of Hawkeye showed, Maya was once one of the Kingpin’s deadliest assassins, until she discovered that he was behind the death of her father, William Lopez (Zahn McClarnon), whereupon she shot the Kingpin in the face, leaving him for dead.

One of the positives MCU has managed to carve out even amidst the dismal streak since the end of Infinity Saga, was their priority to share stories that represent people from marginalized communities. As a medium, comic-book literature has always prided itself on being the vessel that carries the experiences of different voices across the world, and through projects like Moon Knight and the Black Panther movies, MCU has managed to somewhat honor that pride. As the first MCU project of this year, Disney/Hulu’s combined venture, the miniseries Echo, centered on the amputee, specially-abled Native American heroine Maya Lopez, had the potential to add another feather to MCU’s proverbial cap and also had the necessary means at its disposal to make for a memorable entry. However, the answer to the question of whether the series was able to justify its potential is not that simple and straightforward.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been having a rough time lately. From a quality standpoint, it shows in every single one of their products and the audience’s reactions to them. It seems people are not just interested enough to follow the overarching story of the MCU in these new phases. With more movies and TV series coming out in the future, it might be that the MCU will plummet even deeper. Echo, the latest Marvel TV series on Disney+, dares to go in a different direction, and just for that, it is partially successful.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the finale of Marvel Studios’ Echo.
Though only five episodes, Echo is a rich story that strips away the bombastic nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to bring audiences to Tamaha, Oklahoma.
It’s there that the series’ main character Maya Lopez [Alaqua Cox] confronts her past traumas to heal from the tragic loss of her mother and reconnect with her Indigenous community — as well as go up against the big bad Kingpin, who helped raise her after she and her father were exiled from town when she was only a child.
She views Vincent D’Onofrio’s supervillain as an uncle, of sorts, but after realizing he is responsible for her father’s death in Hawkeye, Maya begins to understand his ruthlessness and reconsider her position in his criminal network.

This post contains spoilers for the Marvel Studios series "Echo."
Marvel's "Echo" has an uphill battle to gain audience attention. Not only is the Disney+ series from Marvel Studios arriving at a time when superhero fatigue appears to be high, but it's giving us a limited series about a secondary villain from the "Hawkeye" series, and on the surface, not one that demands the same attention as a character like Loki. However, audiences would do well to take a chance on the series, because where "Echo" succeeds is in making the character of Maya Lopez far more rich than her comic book origins.
Aside from the prominence of her Choctaw heritage, which is an integral part of the five-episode series that just debuted on Disney+, the fact that Maya Lopez is a deaf amputee makes her an even more compelling character who stands out from the usual superhero fare, especially since she's a recovering villain.

Since assembling for the first time in 2012′s The Avengers, the lineup of the team has constantly changed between movies.
The cast is made up of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

As promised, Jeremy Renner is kicking off 2024 by returning to acting. The Oscar nominee took to Instagram to post a selfie from his first day on the set of “Mayor of Kingstown” Season 3, which notably marks his high-profile return to acting following his near-fatal snow plow accident last year.
“Day one on set,” Renner’s caption reads. “Nervous today. Hope this works out that I can Actually pull this off for our production and more importantly the fans.”
Renner was hospitalized for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries on Jan. 1, 2023, after his Sno-Cat, a large snow plow that weighs at least 14,330 pounds, ran him over. He spent the majority of 2023 in physical therapy. Renner joined hosts Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special to confirm he was returning to acting at the start of 2024 via “Mayor of Kingstown.”

Not so long ago, a bright and insightful writer at the venerable pop culture site Den of Geek noted that the Kingpin of Crime Wilson Fisk could fill a gaping hole in the MCU. At the end of the fifth and final episode of Echo, that prediction looks even more sound.
Echo builds to a strange climax, in which Maya Lopez aka Echo gains indistinct superpowers and spreads them to her sister and grandmother to help them fight off Fisk and his men. But instead of punching Fisk into submission or shooting him in the face again, as she did at the end of Hawkeye, Maya performs something of a mind-meld on her adopted uncle.
The move forces him to relive his memories as a boy, listening to his father beat his mother. As Vincent D’Onofrio takes his giant baby approach to playing Fisk to its furthest extreme,...

Ah, Netflix’s Daredevil. We didn’t know how good we had it.
We all thrilled to the series’ first season, with its violent actions and powerful performances from Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, but the second season got too muddled with the Punisher and Elektra, and then Netflix diluted the Marvel shows with seasons that went on too long and the boring crossover Defenders. Daredevil‘s third season returned the show to its former glory, but by that time, too many viewers had fallen off.
So when Cox’s Matt caught a brick in Spider-Man: No Way Home and when D’Onofrio’s Fisk lumbered into the final episode of Hawkeye, fans got excited. In this era of mediocre Marvel entries, Daredevil and Kingpin would bring a much-needed edge back to the MCU. Daredevil’s one-episode...

Before she was cast in Marvel’s 2021 Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” Alaqua Cox had never considered becoming an actor. But then several friends sent her the same flyer looking for Indigenous deaf women in their 20s to try out for a new TV show.
“I said, ‘No, I don’t want to do that,’ and then two other friends sent it to me,” Cox says via an Asl interpreter. “Now a bunch of people have sent it to me, so I thought, ‘I’ll give it a shot.’”
Cox went through a three-month audition process to play Maya Lopez, a tough-as-nails enforcer for crime lord Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), who comes to question her loyalties when she learns Fisk ordered the death of her father, William (Zahn McClarnon). Cox’s performance was so striking, Marvel built a gritty spinoff series around her, “Echo,” with a cast made up almost entirely of Indigenous actors,...
“I said, ‘No, I don’t want to do that,’ and then two other friends sent it to me,” Cox says via an Asl interpreter. “Now a bunch of people have sent it to me, so I thought, ‘I’ll give it a shot.’”

This review contains major spoilers for all five episodes of Echo.
In 2021, Marvel Studios introduced the character of Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) in Hawkeye. Lopez was the complex and violent right hand of New York crime lord Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), but towards the end of that miniseries she came to realize that Fisk was behind the murder of her father, so she cornered him in a back street and shot him in the head.
After so decisively confronting Kingpin and freeing herself from his grip, you might wonder why both Cox and D’Onofrio are back in the five-episode spinoff series, Echo. The answer is that Maya apparently needed to confront Kingpin again and free herself from his grip, but this time in a more unsatisfying way than before. Marvel, I’m losing my mind.

It's long been debated whether the Netflix Marvel series were Marvel Cinematic Universe canon. The shows advertised themselves as being connected to the MCU movies; "Daredevil" obliquely referred to the alien invasion of New York City in "The Avengers" as "the incident," and criminal overseer Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore) even quipped to some goons, "If [Daredevil] had an iron suit or a magic hammer, maybe that would explain why you keep getting your asses handed to you." However, these connections were very much a one-way street.
Since then, though, Vincent D'Onofrio returned as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin on "Hawkeye," while Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "She-Hulk." Cox and D'Onofrio are both returning for the new series "Daredevil: Born Again," as is Jon Bernthal as the Punisher.
And yet, there was still uncertainty. The MCU has...

Before Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez fell down the rabbit hole with Vincent D'onofrio's Kingpin, Echo first experienced the tragic loss of her dad.
Cox's character was first introduced as a villain to audiences when she appeared against Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop in the hit Hawkeye series.
Most uniquely, she happens to be of indigenous background while also being deaf and an amputee—resulting in a truly unique addition to the McU's larger-than-life roster. Ahead of her streaming series, Echo, some might need a refresher on a few key points in Maya's history.
