Method Man to Star in Gareth Maxwell Roberts' The Mortician 3D

6 November 2009 10:56 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

This is not the usual project we write about, but I just thought it sounded cool enough to mention. THR has announced the cast for The Mortician 3D, produced by Belladonna Productions, from the on-going Afm. Hip-hop star Method Man (last seen in The Wackness) will headline along with Angelic Zambrana (last seen in Precious). Tom Hardy (Bronson) and Edward Furlong (American History X) are also in talks to join as well. The "gritty, urban drama" was written and is being directed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts (Kill Kill Faster Faster). Shooting starts this month in Louisiana. It may sounds bland, but read on for story details. The Mortician 3D is a redemption tale where kindness triumphs over cruelty and falls within the genres of urban noir, contemporary fairytale and psychological thriller. The film is set in the nightmare ghetto of a decaying metropolis and is based around about one man's »

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy Hit the ‘Fury Road’

2 November 2009 7:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

These days it’s hard to go a week without hearing about some remake/reboot coming out of Hollywood. Few of these films can claim they’ve been in the rumor mill for as long as Mad Max: Fury Road.  After two decades, however, actual development is occurring  on the next installment of the Mad Max franchise.

Variety is reporting that Charlize Theron (The Italian Job, Hancock) and Tom Hardy (Black Hawk Down, Star Trek: Nemesis, Bronson) have both been cast in Fury Road.  Now, as interesting as that casting is everyone is still anxiously waiting to find out if Mel Gibson will reprise his role as Mad Max. When Director George Miller was asked about this he was vague to say the least, “It could be Mel, it could be anyone.”

Whether Gibson is involved or not I’m left wondering if this particular film needs a sequel »

Bronson Movie Review

2 November 2009 4:58 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

The London penal system has no idea what to do with Michael Peterson, famously on record as its most violent criminal. If the film Bronson can be believed, their solution was to beat him intensely and often. Strangely, that’s also director Nicolas Winding Refn’s answer to his subject. Bronson, so named because Peterson adopts the full name of action star Charlie, is a pseudo-biography about a real life man who entered prison as a low-level bank robber and is still there today, infamous for taking hostages and inciting riots that would make Ufc fighters cower. Refn’s film isn’t the whole truth; it might not even be half the truth, but it creates a violently swirling vortex around its central figure, played to rage-filled precision by Tom Hardy.

All my life I’ve wanted to be famous” says Bronson in the film’s opening which has Hardy »

Weekend Recap - 'Paranormal,' 'This Is It,' 'Mad Max'

2 November 2009 4:13 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Michael Jackson's This Is It was the number one movie of the weekend, but its box office performance was kind of like watching a heavily favored football team eke out a win over an outmatched opponent with a last minute field goal. Not a great opening weekend, and I don't know what else it could be other than Jackson overload since his death in late June.

The other big news is also box office related: Paranormal Activity is now the most profitable film ever made. That's a luxury you can enjoy when you make a movie for $15,000 and have one of the world's most powerful movie studios distribute it for you. We've got more details on both of those stories, Mad Max 4, and more, so read on.

Meet the New Mad Max

1 November 2009 5:02 PM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

As previously rumoured, the British actor Tom Hardy has been cast as "Mad" Max Rockatansky in the upcoming fourth Mad Max film, tentatively named Mad Max 4: Fury Road. Most people had expected the role to go to the rising star Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar), seing as he is Australian, the movie is about an Australian, and word on the street was that series creator George Miller was looking to cast an Australian for the role. Well, evidently the word on the street was wrong. So who is this Hardy fella? He hasn't done all that much, but most notably he had a major role in Layer Cake from 2004, portrayed Charles Bronson in Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn's Bronson from 2008 and had the role of Praetor Shinzon in Star Trek: Nemesis back in 2002. What the new movie will be about is still unknown, but the film will »

Mad Max Sequel Casts Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy

31 October 2009 8:00 PM, PDT | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

There was a tno of speculation as to who would star in the new Mad Max sequel called Mad Max Fury Road but it seems director George Miller has really gone all out. The film will star Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron according to the trades. Tom Hardy replaces Mel Gibson as Mad max and frankly I am damn excited.

It is a safe bet that Charlize Theron will be the eye candy but she will no doubt haev alot of deth in her character as she is quite known for playing complex characters. This could with work be the best Mad Max yet.. but it could also suck. Here is hoping for the first.

'Mad Max' Casting Confirmed: Charlize, Tom Hardy

30 October 2009 12:20 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

A quick Mad Max update: Variety writes that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are definitely in for director George Miller's latest installment, tentatively titled Mad Max 4: Fury Road. This doesn't necessarily mean Sam Worthington, also rumored for the Mad Max role is out, although that's the strongest indication we can read into it.

The script is so closely guarded that it's hard to know exactly what the details are. For all we know, Hardy and Worthington were up for different roles and they were just connected to Max Rockatansky for the sake of convenience. In fact, to cast further suspicion over the production, Miller told reporters last week that the lead role "could be [Mel Gibson], it could be anyone." »

Mad Max: Fury Road edges closer to starting line

After almost 15 years of development within development hell, George Miller's fourth Mad Max film is starting to inch further ahead than where it's been before. Mad MaxFury Road now has two cast members and neither of the two are original Max star Mel Gibson.

The names now attached to the film are Charlize Theron (Hancock, The Road) and Tom Hardy (Star Trek: Nemesis, RocknRolla). The identity of both actors' characters have not been revealed, supposedly even to the players themselves.

Miller is keeping the door open for Gibson to return to the part that launched his film career in 1979, that of the road warrior Max. However, the director states that the role of Max in Fury Road could be played by either Gibson or another actor. While Hardy could be playing Max as a younger incarnation (and thus Fury Road could be considered a prequel or even »

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy Confirmed for 'Mad Max'

30 October 2009 7:03 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

After weeks of breathless speculation as to who would be riding George Miller's bleak highways of Mad Max: Fury Road, there's been a conformation. Variety reports that Charlize Theron has boarded the film, but that it'll be Tom Hardy (Bronson) who takes over the coveted lead. The script is being kept under tight wraps, so we still don't know if Mad Max: Fury Road will be a reboot or a sequel. Speculation has been rampant for more than twenty years, and as is the case with so many revived franchises, we'll probably end up being terribly wrong. Hopefully for the better.

So, we only know that Hardy is playing "the male lead. Will it be the Mad Max, made so iconic by Mel Gibson? Or will Max have taken on some kind of mythological, Robin Hood like status in the barren wasteland, and someone simply takes on the title? »

Mad Max 4 Finds New Cast Members

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are in negotiations to star in Fury Road, the fourth installment in the Mad Max series. Writer-director George Miller has been working on the project for over a decade, and although Mel Gibson was attached at one point to return to the lead role that he played in the first three films of the series, Hardy will instead be tackling the role of Max, with Theron playing the female lead.

Little is known plot-wise about the film as Miller aims to keep a lid on what is set to be a highly anticipated event. Fans of the series have been waiting since 1985 for the next film in the series. All that is known at this point is that the film takes place a short while after the end of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy Will Star in Mad Max 4

30 October 2009 4:05 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Variety writes that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy have been confirmed for Mad Max 4 (also titled Fury Road). Writer/director George Miller helmed the first three installments between 1979 and 1985 and has already finished a script for the fourth, which will begin filming next August in Australia.

The first Mad Max helped launch the career of Mel Gibson, who went on to star in the two sequels (and of course a slew of other blockbusters). Its story involves a cop living in post-apocalyptic Australia who takes the law into his own hands after his family and friends are killed. The sequels, however, have little to do with the first movie, and the series' continuity is more or less non-existent.
