Jake Gyllenhaal Once Admitted Putting A Lot Of Pressure On Himself While Filming Spider-Man: Far From Home (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal, born in the Gyllenhaal family, has lived up to the family’s legacy. But there were times when he got overwhelmed while filming, and something similar happened during Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. He appeared in the role of Mysterio and heavily impacted the life of Tom Holland’s character, Peter Parker. The Oscar-nominated actor is known for going the extra mile for his roles.
He lost around 30 pounds for his role in Nightcrawler. However, after that, he decided not to get engrossed in a role further, and the primary reason for it might be his Oscar snub. He was not nominated for the Academy Awards for that part. On the personal front, Jake is the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal returned to the screen with a burst of action-packed energy in a recently unveiled Prime Video sizzle reel that includes Gyllenhaal’s soon-to-be-released film, Road House.
The reel offers a glimpse of Gyllenhaal’s transformation and showcases his impressively muscular physique as he stands in the midst of what appears to be an underground fighting ring. The intensity continues to build as we witness his character engage in a thrilling encounter with a formidable group of adversaries in a dimly lit parking lot.
With a swift strike to an antagonist’s face, Gyllenhaal’s character delivers a sarcastic quip, “Oh, I just slapped you, are you alright?” This remark only serves as a prelude to the incredible display of his agile mixed martial arts skills, as he proceeds to decimate the rest of the group.

December is the most popular month for charitable giving by Americans – accounting for about a third of all donations made per year. Call it the spirit of the holidays, repeated viewings of A Christmas Carol, or a rush to get in tax-deductible gifts before the calendar year runs out.
That makes this a particularly timely moment to encounter one of this year’s Oscar-contending documentaries, UnCharitable, directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal. It argues we are applying misguided standards to charities – monitoring their overhead expenses like hawks and shaming any nonprofits that dare to spend money on staff salaries or fundraising.
“The movie is demanding that we look at it in a new way, really,” Gyllenhaal said in a recent Q&a (you can watch the conversation below). Under the existing paradigm, charitable nonprofits have learned to operate bare bones style, at the expense of solving the social problems they ostensibly are meant to address.

Film director Stephen Gyllenhaal shared what he learned from making his new documentary, UnCharitable, in his new uInterview.
UnCharitable highlights three of the most successful U.S. charities, which were shut down by watchdogs. It questions the traditional constraints on salaries and marketing that are put on nonprofit organizations and demand a change in the system.
Gyllenhaal, who is the father of famed actors Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, explained what drove him to make the documentary when he heard the story of his friend Dan Pallotta, whose AIDS Ride charity was shut down due to negative reports about its high overhead costs.
“I really love documentaries and how important they are,” Gyllenhaal told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “I had just finished a documentary called In Utero, which was all about the science from conception to birth… it became very important in the pre-natal, perinatal world and, in fact, led me...

Jake Gyllenhaal is teasing an iconic partnership: starring in a film sister Maggie Gyllenhaal directs.
Maggie made her directorial debut with Oscar-nominated 2021 film “The Lost Daughter.” Jake told People magazine that he would “adore” to be directed by her.
“We talk all the time and we rely on each other,” Jake said. “She sees me for all of my stuff and she can bring that out in me. And I think I would show her vulnerability, probably, I haven’t been able to do onscreen and otherwise, because I trust her and I love her.”
Maggie and Jake have collaborated onscreen together but never behind the camera. The duo played brother and sister in “Donnie Darko” and starred in two films their father Stephen Gyllenhaal helmed, “A Dangerous Woman” and “Homegrown.”
Jake previously told InStyle magazine that he has a project in the works with Maggie directing.

"What is a world that works for everyone, what does that world look like?" Abramorama has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary film titled UnCharitable, made by filmmaker Stephen Gyllenhaal. It will be opening in theaters later in September, after playing at a few summits and conferences earlier this year already. UnCharitable is a timely and crucial documentary that uncovers the realities of philanthropy (it's bad) and introduces a radical new way of giving. In an emotional call to action, this invigorating film demands that charities be freed from traditional constraints so they can truly change the world. Featuring Dan Pallotta, Chris Anderson (CEO of Ted), Steve Nardizzi (Co-Founder of Wounded Warrior Project), Darren Walker (President of the Ford Foundation), Edward Norton (Actor & Founder of Crowdrise) and more. This actually looks really powerful and hard-hitting, not at all cheesy or sappy, it's honest and saying – things need to change,...

The horribly tragic true story of Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore has been grist for several true-crime dramas. During the summer of 1980, Montgomery stopped by her friend Gore's home to pick up a swimsuit for Gore's daughter. Gore allegedly confronted Montgomery, who was engaged in an affair with her husband. A fight ensued, and, per Montgomery, she murdered Gore in self-defense. The sticking point here is the viciousness of the killing: Gore was struck 41 times with an axe. Though Montgomery was found not guilty, many people in the Dallas suburb of Wylie, Texas believed she had murdered Gore in cold blood, and protested the verdict.
Barbara Hershey won a Primetime Emmy for playing a fictionalized version of Montgomery in Stephen Gyllenhaal's 1990 made-for-tv movie "A Killing in a Small Town." In 2022, Jessica Biel portrayed Montgomery opposite Melanie Lynskey's Gore in Nick Antosca and Robin Veith's Hulu series...

This article contains details of real life events that will likely spoil future episodes of Love & Death.
Elizabeth Olsen is the lead in HBO Max’s new true crime limited drama series Love & Death. Olsen’s journey into the bloody genre sees her take on the role of murderer Candy Montgomery for seven episodes alongside Jesse Plemons.
In recent years several true crime dramas have been major hits for streamers, from the likes of Netflix’s controversial Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to Hulu’s The Girl from Plainville. So it was no surprise then that HBO Max decided to take part too and add Candy Montgomery’s story to its stream. However, this is not the first time Candy’s story has been told.
In 1990, Stephen Gyllenhaal made a film inspired by the story called A Killing in a Small Town starring Barbara Hershey and Lee Garlington.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Jake Gyllenhaal are reminding fans of their sweet familial bond. On April 17, the "Everything Everywhere All at Once" actor supported her godson at the premiere of "The Covenant," a thriller film starring Gyllenhaal. Curtis kissed Gyllenhaal on the cheek as they posed on the red carpet together in matching black suits.
At the premiere, Curtis revealed the two have "just gotten to know each other," particularly after spending much of the Covid-19 lockdown together, along with Gyllenhaal's girlfriend, Jeanne Cadieu. Curtis told People the couple lived in her house next door for almost a year. "So singing, acting, sourdough," she said of her godson's lockdown activities. "And he did that test where you do a handstand against the wall and take your shirt off and put it back on." Gyllenhaal hilariously added that he's "still making sourdough" postpandemic.

Five years after igniting the original slasher craze, Sean S. Cunningham returned with another harrowing tale of young people in danger. And similar to Friday the 13th, this 1985 movie concerns unlucky teens on the receiving end of someone’s revenge. The only difference here, though, is this threat hits much closer to home. The New Kids draws from another prevalent Hollywood trend — violent street gangs and the communities they terrorize — and tells a unique coming-of-age story.
The New Kids starts with Tom Atkins’ character dragging his two teenage children, Loren (Shannon Presby) and Abby McWilliams, out of bed for an early-morning workout on the army base. Although she is part of a Hollywood film dynasty, Maggie Gyllenhaal has had a long, successful, and interesting career as an actress, producer, writer, and director. Gyllenhaal made her feature film debut at the age of 15 in one of her father's films, director Stephen Gyllenhaal's 1992 feature "Waterland." Jane Campion has been named the best feature-film director of 2021 by the Directors Guild of America for “The Power of the Dog.” She is the second consecutive female director to win after Chloe Zhao’s victory last year for “Nomadland,” and the third overall after Zhao and Kathryn Bigelow (“The Hurt Locker”), who won in 2010 and was also on hand for the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“I’m here because I care about women having voices,” Campion said in her acceptance speech. She had been the prohibitive favorite going into the DGA Awards, just as she is in the Best Director category at the Academy Awards — and the fact that she won even at the end of a marathon DGA ceremony during which one person after another had paid homage to her fellow nominee Steven Spielberg suggests that the rest of awards season will be smooth sailing for her.

Filmmaking is quite literally in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s genes. Her mother is Oscar-winning screenwriter Naomi Foner (“Running on Empty”) who also directed the 2013 drama “Very Good Girls.” And her father Stephen Gyllenhaal has directed such films as 1992 “Waterland,” which featured his daughter, and 1993 “A Dangerous Woman.” But it took time for the Oscar-nominated actress (“Crazy Heart’) to follow in her parents’ footsteps.
“I think that now I have directed, I can see in a way I always was a director,” she noted in a recent American Cinematheque Zoom conversation with Oscar-winner Guillermo Del Toro (“The Shape of Water”). She added, though, it was so deep into her psyche that “it was even a secret for me.” She recently picked up Gotham Independent Film honors for writing and directing her first film, Netflix’s “The Lost Daughter,” starring Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris and her husband Peter Sarsgaard.

It took playing a woman who is empowered by becoming a film director in HBO series “The Deuce” for actress Maggie Gyllenhaal to imagine becoming one herself. As soon as she did, after binging the books of Elena Ferrante, from “My Brilliant Friend” to “The Days of Abandonment,” Gyllenhaal was inspired to take the plunge. Three years ago, on the verge of her 40th birthday, Gyllenhaal first wrote to Ferrante, asking the Italian author (whose identity is protected by her publisher) to let her option her 2006 novel “The Lost Daughter” for the movies. After a few email exchanges, the writer said yes. But her contract with Gyllenhaal was void, she told the actress, if she didn’t direct the feature herself. (Ferrante explained why in The Guardian.)

Olivia Colman is captivating in the first trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut, “The Lost Daughter.”
The upcoming drama, based on Elena Ferrante’s novel of the same name, stars Colman as Leda, a middle-aged woman vacationing alone and having flashbacks to her days as a young wife and mother (with her younger self played by Jessie Buckley). Gyllenhaal wrote, directed and produced the movie.
In the trailer, Colman, whose character is on a “working holiday,” meets Dakota Johnson’s Nina, telling her she has two daughters of her own. She soon tells the young mother that “children are a crushing responsibility.”
The trailer also gives audiences a glimpse at Buckley, but if anything, it teases the captivating performance Colman delivers that will surely land her in the awards conversation as the race for best actress heats up.

Other interesting stories about early encounters with famous people in film include Paul Newman taking him to the race track and teaching him driving safety. Stars: Lori Loughlin, Shannon Presby, James Spader, John Philbin, David H. MacDonald, Vince Grant, Theron Montgomery, Eddie Jones, Lucy Martin, Eric Stoltz, Paige Price, Court Miller, Tom Atkins | Written by Stephen Gyllenhaal | Directed by Sean S. Cunningham
Director Sean S. Cunningham is widely known for the classic 1980 slasher Friday the 13th, a movie we know and love that spawned a whole series of sequels and eventually a remake. Still, he’s done plenty of other things, and one of those things is the 1985 thriller, The New Kids. With a screenplay by Stephen Gyllenhaal who also wrote the story alongside Brian Taggert, The New Kids finally comes out on Blu-ray in the UK thanks to 101 Films and their excellent Black Label.
The story itself follows two American teenagers – Loren (Shannon Presby) and Abby (Lori Loughlin) – who, when their parents are killed in a car accident, move to Florida to live with their Uncle.

This June, 101 Films will release Sean S. Cunningham’s tense and violent horror-thriller The New Kids (1985), previously released on VHS as Striking Back in 1988 and never making the transition to DVD here in the UK, as part of the companies “Black Label” line.
After their parents die in a car crash, two all-American teens, Loren (Shannon Presby) and Abby (Lori Loughlin) go to live with relatives in a small Florida town. But trouble begins when members of a vicious gang, led by Dutra (James Spader), bet on who’ll be the first to seduce the innocent Abby. When she spurns their obscene advances, the thugs embark on a sadistic campaign of vandalism, arson and assault. The savagery escalates until Loren must defend himself and his sister in a brutal fight to the death in a carnival midway. It’s The New Kids… trying to make it in this town just might kill them!

TV has never been more beautiful, more daring, and more dramatic, and that’s owed to the new level of talent being given a chance to redefine what might be possible within this medium today. Since the dawn of the 21st century, we’ve witnessed an incredible array of directors (some native to TV, some fleeing the fluctuating feature film world) come to episodic storytelling to discover its potential.

We're beginning to think it's impossible for Jake Gyllenhaal to be anything less than insanely charming. In the latest installment of the Demolition actor's insightful interview with People and Entertainment Weekly's editorial director Jess Cagle, Jake fondly recalls his childhood. He dishes on everything from his favorite movie as a kid (Pete's Dragon, duh) to the one hilarious thing that his father, filmmaker Stephen Gyllenhaal, used to do that drove Jake and his sister, Maggie, up a wall. Watch the clip above to find out, and see which celebrity crush Jake's kept a secret for years.

Be careful with spoilers if you're ever around Jake Gyllenhaal. The Demolition star recently told People and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle that because of a somewhat ironic quirk involving his father, the filmmaker Stephen Gyllenhaal, he missed out on the final moments of many childhood movies. "My dad would tape stuff on VHS off the TV, and then it would run out," Gyllenhaal, 35, recalled during The Jess Cagle Interview. "So we'd see, like, the first 8/10ths of almost every movie and never know the end. Which has obviously informed most of my movie choices, if you can tell.

Twin Peaks, Season 2, Episode 20, “The Path to the Black Lodge”
Written by Harley Peyton & Robert Engels
Directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal
Originally aired April 18, 1991 on ABC
With an episode full of various expressions of love, it does not feel like a coincidence that Earle’s real endgame is finally revealed at the same time, as he hopes to find the Black Lodge. Love seems like a concept that is the antithesis of the Lodge, though one it cannot exist without, so it makes sense for their paths to converge like two ends of a magnet.
Dale comes to the realization that all this time, Earle hasn’t been after him, but after the Lodge. “He has engaged us in subterfuge and red herring…a fish I don’t particularly care for,” Dale says. By delaying the police force long enough with all these distractions, Earle has been able to discover more...

Jake Gyllenhaal really just wanted to quack. The Southpaw actor recalled a hysterical story about wanting to be in The Mighty Ducks during a visit to Howard Stern's Sirius Xm radio show on Wednesday, July 22. A working child actor at the time, Gyllenhaal, 34, auditioned for one of the main roles in the 1992 classic and presumably got it. At one point in the third season of "Rectify," Amantha Holden is floundering her way through a team-building exercise at a management training seminar for her job. To help her out, the moderator suggests, "Why don't you tell us a story that only you can tell us?" Her story — about how older brother Daniel wound up on Death Row as a teenager, how she devoted her entire adult life to getting him released, succeeded through DNA evidence, and then saw him confess to the murder a second time to cut a plea deal, making her efforts and years into a joke — fits the letter of the suggestion, if not the spirit of the exercise, and it leaves the entire room speechless. "Rectify" itself doesn't exactly tell a story no one else on television could. Almost from the moment TV was born, the medium's been filled with stories of crimes, cops,...

Black to Basics: Binder’s Safely Bland Racial Message Movie
The latest film from actor/director/screenwriter Mike Binder, Black or White presents us with the possibility of truthfully representing the severe racial issues still plaguing our apathetic culture, inclined towards the sanitization of such topics in order to adhere to the restrictive umbrella of the politically correct. Unfortunately, Binder drops the ball, opting for a safe portrayal declawed of volatility because it presents us with a dichotomy told entirely through the lens of privileged perspective, when it could have been much more powerful in reverse or even with a hedged juxtaposition. Several well-meaning and even genuinely moving performances save the title from complete dismissal, but Binder’s film aims to assuage middle-class white American guilt rather than expose a lack of acknowledgment concerning the difference of others. Worse, he doesn’t bother to provide equal agency for both ‘sides.

What's fun about Jake Gyllenhaal on late-night shows is whenever he tells stories about his childhood, he's also telling stories about Maggie Gyllenhaal's childhood. You know, because they're siblings. And, as siblings, they were both raised by their dad, Stephen Gyllenhaal, a film and TV director and apparent Halloween enthusiast. Last night, Jake was on Conan talking about how overzealous their dad was with making them costumes. He mocks his dad for his enthusiasm, but look whose children wear costumes for a living, Jake.

“In my early conversations with the show's producers about the score's direction, they made it clear that we are not trying to re-create or pay homage to the original Psycho, which was good news because that's one of the most iconic and recognizable scores of all time and my attempts to...

The Boyfriend Experience: Foner’s Directorial Debut a Derivative Shard
Screenwriter Naomi Foner makes her directorial debut with Very Good Girls, though her preceding reputation makes this sedimentary, uninspired film even more surprising. Mother of actors Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Foner penned several of ex-husband Stephen Gyllenhaal’s more notable titles, such as Losing Isaiah (1995) and A Dangerous Woman (1993). Considering the authoritative, complicated, and resilient female characters portrayed famously by the likes of Jessica Lange, Halle Berry, and Debra Winger, this trifling and tedious story of a late adolescent friendship tested by mutual attraction to the same boy seems born from the pen of a novice writing about her only familiar focal point,
In New York City during their last summer before going away to college, best friends Lilly (Dakota Fanning) and Gerri (Elizabeth Olsen) vow to lose their virginity. Gerri has her eyes set on David (Boyd Holbrook), who...

Hannibal, “Mizumono”
Written by Steve Lightfoot and Bryan Fuller
Directed by David Slade
Aired May 23rd, 2014
“I let you know me… see me. I gave you a rare gift, but you didn’t want it.” – Hannibal Lecter
If there’s such thing as arthouse television, Hannibal‘s second season is it, a thirteen-hour fever dream of blood, orchestral music, and psychological mind games. Above all, it was a cinematic tragedy, a symbolically-rich tale of a man courting the devil and (most likely) living to tell about it, set against the backdrop of television’s most arresting visual palette.
“Mizumono” is the sweet, sweet cherry on the top of Hannibal‘s breathtaking sophomore effort, a dramatic crescendo catalyzed by one small mistake made on Will’s part: leaving the scent of Freddie Lounds on himself before visiting Hannibal. When Lecter realizes what Will has done, his heart breaks and Hannibal dares...

Rectify Season 2, Episode 3 “Charlie Darwin”
Written by Coleman Herbert
Directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal
Airs Thursdays at 10pm Et on Sundance
Whether it be feelings, traumatic life events, or relationships that forever haunt us, there’s always forces we can’t see constantly trying to deform and reshape who we are as human beings. In fact, our strength of character is often defined by how well we can stand up to these forces, like a tree branch unwilling to fall, even in the strongest of storms. And as every character in Rectify finds themselves fighting against events and ideas almost completely out of their control, “Charlie Darwin” is a story of resilience, of keeping hope in these dark, modern times, where the definitions of everything in the world (right down to “bad” and “good”) have become curved like the instruments in the Holden family vehicle, slippery, hard-to-define shapes missing the definitive...
