Rare Billy Connolly documentary Big Banana Feet is undergoing restoration for a DVD and Blu-ray release, courtesy of the BFI.
Billy Connolly is unquestionably one of the most beloved stand-up comedians to ever grace the stage.
An alternative comedian before the term existed, Connolly was playing folk clubs with the likes of Jasper Carrott and Richard Digance in the early 1970s. Eventually, his patter between songs became so popular, Connolly ditched the music and became a stand up comic full time.
He has consistently been voted amongst the best stand up comedians on history by peers and public alike. He undertook his final tour, High Horse, in 2016 and published his latest autobiography, Windswept And Interesting, in 2021.
1975 was a landmark year for Connolly, as it marked the first of many appearences on Michael Parkinson’s chat show. The same year, a documentary called Big Banana Feet was filmed. It’s title came from the huge,...

When we think about Oscar-winning performances, we usually refer to "transformations." Actors go on these press tours talking about how much blood, sweat, and tears went into their work. It's as if many of these people need to prove the part was difficult, arduous, and important to justify being given a golden statue for it. I do think their work is important because art is important. Obviously, I wouldn't have made it my profession to talk about how and why I think it is if I didn't. However, the self-righteousness bothers me.
Acting may be an outlet for creative expression of one's innermost thoughts and feelings, but it is also a profession. I find myself drawn to actors who, from my vantage point, do not seem overly precious about their work. These are the folks who show up, do their work extremely well, and then go have a life off the set.

Sean Connery, the Scottish actor who embodied the Sexual Revolution of the 1960s as cinema’s debut James Bond, has died at 90. In a 45-year career that covered many genres, Connery proved, as much as anyone, that entertainment value and artistic quality could go hand-in-hand. Who else could claim they’d worked with Alfred Hitchcock and Michael Bay, John Huston and Gus Van Sant? Connery did — and he originated the most popular action hero of all time.
The list of plaudits Connery received in his lifetime span a wide spectrum. He won an Academy Award, for playing a hard-edged cop in “The Untouchables,” received the Kennedy Center Honor, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. But his acclaim went to even greater extremes: Scottish newspaper The Sunday Herald called him “The Greatest Living Scot” while People Magazine didn’t just vote him “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1989 but “Sexiest Man of the Century” a decade later.

Sir Sean Connery refused to follow up allegations he was targeted by a phone hacker because "he doesn't want anything to do with" the U.K. newspaper scandal.
The acting legend's name is said to have appeared in the records of Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator who worked for Rupert Murdoch's now-defunct British tabloid News of the World, and the star was allegedly told his voicemail messages had been illegally accessed.
However, Connery refused to get involved and didn't return the call from cops, according to his spokesman.
The Scottish actor's representative tells Britain's Daily Telegraph, "An attempt to contact Sir Sean was made by an individual connected with the investigation into phone hacking. No specifics were supplied and Sir Sean didn't not return the call as he truly didn't wish to be involved. He is enjoying his retirement."
Connery's close friend and biographer Murray Grigor tells The Guardian, "Apparently there were 10 instances. The police were quite excited about it but he doesn't want to know. He doesn't want anything to do with it. He's just having a good time and he just shrugged it off."...

Chris Fujiwara promises to lift a red carpet ban and 'roll out all appropriate courtesy' for screen stars in a bid to get Edinburgh's flagging film festival back on track
Red carpets will return to the Edinburgh international film festival this summer, after stars shunned its experimental rethink last year.
The event's new director Chris Fujiwara met the press this morning and jumped at the chance to ask potential sponsors for help:
Give me money, please. Please give me money.
Rather than a cry of desperation, Fujiwara admitted he just wants as big a budget as possible to get the capital's struggling film festival back on track.
A film critic, book author and lecturer, the new chief is seen by some in the Scottish screen industry as a gutsy appointment. Among his first moves will be to visit Glasgow film festival this month, perhaps indicating a concern that Edinburgh is...
