NBC is set to develop a new Roseanne Barr comedy according to THR, Deadline and Variety. Universal Television has signed Barr on to develop a comedy for Barr to star in and produce. Her partners include Steven Greener, who worked with Barr on the Lifetime reality series "Roseanne's Nuts" in 2011. Barr is currently a guest star on IFC's clever comedy "Portlandia" playing an interim mayor while Portland's mayor (played by Kyle MacLachlan) is "off the grid" over guilt induced by the outing of his incessant printing with his "pet" Prints, a closeted copy machine.

Roseanne Barr is taking another swing at developing an NBC sitcom. According to THR, she and producing partner Steven Greener have signed a deal to have Barr create and star in a new comedy. Déjà vu: Barr developed an NBC sitcom last pilot season that would have reunited her with John Goodman. Alas, Downwardly Mobile didn't make it past the pilot stage, but perhaps everyone will fare better this time. For old time's sake, here is a clip from one of the best episodes of Roseanne. If you can hear the song "On the Road Again" without just subbing in "dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah road again" for the lyrics, it's only because you've never watched season four's "Kansas City, Here We Come."...

Roseanne Barr's first try at sitcom stardom since "Roseanne" left the air at 1997 will be with NBC.
The network has given a script commitment, with a penalty attached if a pilot isn't made, to "Downwardly Mobile," which Barr co-created with boyfriend Johnny Argent, the showbiz trade papers report. The comedy revolves around Barr's character, her family and the fellow residents of the mobile home park where they live.
Barr, Argent and fellow executive producer Steven Greener ("Roseanne's Nuts") set up "Downwardly Mobile" at 20th Century Fox TV in August. The studio then set out to hire a showrunner and found one in Eric Gilliland, a writer and producer on "Roseanne" for several seasons. His credits also include "My Boys," "Mr. Sunshine" and "The Wonder Years."

In 1987, NBC had first crack at a working class family sitcom starring then-up-and-coming standup comedian Roseanne Barr. Legendary NBC programmer Brandon Tartikoff famously passed, and the project landed at ABC where it went to series, Roseanne, which ran for 9 years. Twenty four years later, another sitcom about a lower middle class family starring Barr hit the market, and this time NBC and its new programming chief Bob Greenblatt jumped on it. The network bought the multi-camera comedy, titled Downwardly Mobile, with a script commitment plus penalty. Co-created by Barr, her boyfriend John Argent and former Roseanne executive producer Eric Gilliland, who will serve as showrunner, the ensemble comedy revolves around a family and friends living in a mobile home community. It is produced by 20th Century Fox TV as it stems from a script deal the studio made with Barr in August. Barr, Argent and Gilliland will executive produce with Steven Greener,...

Roseanne Barr has more than once bemoaned the state of comedy on television recently, and specifically noted the fact that sitcoms about working-class people have all but disappeared from the broadcast networks.
She's out to change that. The former star of and creative force behind "Roseanne" has a comedy project in the works at 20th Century Fox TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It's called "Downwardly Mobile," and while details are few at the moment, the Hr says it will be in a similar vein to "Roseanne" as it follows a family that struggles to make ends meet. Barr and her boyfriend, Johnny Argent, will executive produce with Steven Greener, an exec producer of her current Lifetime unscripted series "Roseanne's Nuts."
The project doesn't have a writer/showrunner attached yet; once that happens it will go out to bid at networks, the Hr says. In the meantime, Barr has been...
