Italy’s Taormina Film Festival kicks off its 69th edition Friday evening against the backdrop of its landmark Teatro Antico amphitheatre with a “Pavarotti Forever” benefit event headlined by Placido Domingo and Vittorio Grigolo.
It’s not the typical opening for a film festival, but it is in keeping with the eclectic programming of incoming artistic director Barrett Wissman, whose interview with Deadline on his plans for the festival can be read here.
Much is riding on the edition, with Wissman being brought in to raise its local and international profile after a turbulent decade, which was compounded by the Covid pandemic.
Topping the bill over the first weekend is the Italian premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny in the presence of Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen. It’s the first time a major Disney production has touched down at the festival since Inside Out in 2015. Indiana Jones,...

Actress Analeigh Tipton really seems to be moving her way up in the acting world. While you may not recognize her name, she's likely a face you've seen before in supporting roles. Between movies like Lucy and Warm Bodies, she's slowly making her way up the Hollywood ranks. Now, it looks like she's starring in the upcoming film, Sadie.
The psychological thriller only has a handful of photos released via their Facebook page, but if they're any indication, it boasts quite the visuals.

It’s one thing for a fantasy film to make no sense, but Patch Town’s problem is that its premise isn’t just unintelligible — it’s downright dumb. Based on his short film, director Craig Goodwill’s feature concerns a magical factory (ostensibly located, in secret, on the outskirts of mainstream society?) where a wicked businessman (Julian Richings) has assembly-line workers remove babies from cabbages and then use a machine to turn those babies into children’s dolls, which he sells to little girls. When those toys are eventually abandoned by their all-grown-up owners, they return to this factory to work as reanimated people.

Craig Goodwill's Patch Town is one seriously strange film - a dystopic musical set in a world where Certain Copyrighted Dolls Popular In the 1980s (tm) have grown up, stopped being cute, and are put to work in the factory as de facto slave labor preparing the next generation. It's a Gilliam inspired stew of oddity and with a June release date in theaters and on digital platforms fast approaching in both the Us and Canada we are pleased to premier a very odd alternate poster - by Tom Hodge - and even odder alternate trailer today.(Los Angeles - May 5, 2015) - Director/producer Craig Goodwill's award-winning debut feature, Patch Town, will be released theatrically and via key digital platforms (iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Google...

Top brass at the 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (Psiff) have announced a new programme on Canadian Cinema as well as the traditionally strong roster of foreign-language films eligible for the Fipresci Award in the Awards Buzz section, and Modern Masters.
The festival will screen 45 of the 76 official foreign-language Oscar submissions under the umbrella of Awards Buzz.
“We’ve selected Canadian films for a special focus at this year’s festival for many reasons, not the least of which is the wealth of talent emerging from its relatively small, indigenous film industry, and the depth and richness of story and character portrayal its films exemplify,” said festival director Darryl Macdonald.
“Whether it’s established auteurs like Denis Coté, Denis Villenueve and Atom Egoyan, gifted actor-directors like Don McKellar and Sarah Polley or newly emerging talents like Chloé Robichaud, Craig Goodwill and Sébastien Pilote, Canadian creative ingenuity is on abundant display in its films. Trailer
Synopsis
After years in a loving home, Jon, a toy, was forgotten, deserted and ultimately betrayed by his adoptive mother. He returns to live a sad life as a worker on the line; a life of factory work and oppression in a place where hundreds of cabbage babies are born every day. The thankless task of shucking, picking, and processing these newborns to go out into the world and to their new mothers has taken its toll on Jon. With each new birth, Jon slips deeper into sadness, lamenting the days when life was good and he was loved.

Twitch is proud to host this world exclusive premiere of the latest trailer for Craig Goodwill's Patch Town. The film is based on the award winning short (that Twitch covered way back in 2011) which played Tiff, Cannes and a slew of other fests to much acclaim. Now in 2013, the story has been expanded to feature length, using a bunch of the original cast and including a few new suprises. Patch Town is a quirky mix of genres and tone. It's got a David Lynch-meets-Little Shop Of Horrors vibe, complete with a dash of Cabbage Patch Kids nostalgia thrown in for good measure. There are strong performances and appropriately moody visuals, and having seen the finished project it's sure to find many fans of...
