If you’ve been keeping track of Lionsgate’s The Glass Castle during its meandering journey to the big screen, you’ll know that the big-screen adaptation of Jeannette Walls’ bestselling memoir acts as something of a homecoming for the Oscar-winning Brie Larson, who is poised to reunite with her Short Term 12 director, Destin Daniel Cretton.
Four years ago, the filmmaker offered Larson the chance to headline said indie drama, and the actress clutched on to that breakout role with both hands, seeding a career that would go on to open doors into Room, The Spectacular Now, Kong: Skull Island and Ben Wheatley’s riotous Free Fire – not to mention the small indie project known as Captain Marvel.

Beginning in 1986, the Berlin International Film Festival has presented the Berlinale Camera to film personalities or institutions to which it feels particularly indebted and wishes to express its thanks. This year, during the 64th edition of the festival, producer and distributor Karl “Baumi” Baumgartner will be awarded the prestigious Berlinale Camera.
Karl Baumgartner is one of Germany’s leading producers and independent distributors. In his capacity as producer, he has brought world cinema to German audiences expanding their horizons in terms of what cinema from abroad can provide.
In 1982, together with Reinhard Brundig, he launched Pandora Film Distribution and it developed into one of the most important companies in the field of art house cinema. Pandora Film discovered filmmakers such as Andrej Tarkovsky, Jim Jarmusch, Sally Potter, Kim Ki Duk, and Aki Kaurismäki, as well as many others. With Jane Campion’s The Piano in 1993, Karl Baumgartner celebrated his first great success as distributor. It was followed by Emir Kusturica’s Palme d’Or winning Underground (1995), executively produced by Pandora Film.
As a producer, Karl Baumgartner has participated several times in the Berlin International Film Festival – in the Competition with the films Super 8 Stories by Emir Kusturica (out of competition, 2001), My Sweet Home by Filippos Tsitos (2001), Sam Garbarski’s Irina Palm (2007), and Jasmila Žbanić’s Na putu (On the Path, 2010). His most recent contribution to the Berlinale Competition was as co-producer of Kebun binatang (Postcards from the Zoo, 2012) by Edwin and Layla Fourie (2013) by Pia Marais.
The Berlinale Camera will be awarded to Karl Baumgartner at 4.00 pm on February 8, 2014 at the CinemaxX 9. It will be followed by the film Boheemielämää (La vie de bohème, 1992) by Aki Kaurismäki who, together with Festival Director Dieter Kosslick, will give a speech in Karl Baumgartner’s honor.
The Berlinale Camera has been awarded since 1986. Until 2003, it was donated by Berlin-based jeweller David Goldberg. From 2004 through 2013, Georg Hornemann Objects, a Dusseldorf-based atelier, sponsored the trophy, which goldsmith Hornemann redesigned for the Berlinale in 2008: Modelled on a real camera, the Berlinale Camera now has 128 finely crafted components. Many of these silver and titanium parts, such as the swivel head and tripod, are movable.

New York — Steve Harvey played hard-to-get before deciding to become a daytime television talk-show host.
The veteran comic, whose new show gets a jump on the fall season Tuesday, was first approached about a show three years ago when his first book, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," was on the best-seller lists. The television production company Endemol thought the idea of Harvey giving women advice from a man's point of view made a perfect theme.
Harvey said no, thanks.
One of the original "Kings of Comedy" thought late-night was a better place for him on TV. Daytime is more sedate. He had a thriving stand-up career he wasn't ready to give up and a popular morning radio show broadcast across the country. Harvey also thought his suitors were trying to limit him.

There has to be an easier way to make $50,000.
ABC's new reality TV series "101 Ways To Leave A Game Show" is a trivia contest with a twist.
From ABC:
101 Ways to Leave a Game Show will feature contestants competing in one of the most insane game shows in history for a chance to win $50,000. In "101 Ways," contestants will match wits in a series of multiple choice questions, with one contestant being eliminated every round. But unlike any other game show in the world, the eliminated contestant will then be ejected from the show in spectacular fashion, i.e., being flown away strapped to the wing of a biplane, shot out of a cannon, pushed off the top of a moving semi truck, dragged underwater by a one ton anchor or yanked off a dock by a speed boat.
AdAge writes, "Great! Starting Tonight, ABC Will Literally Torture Game Show Losers.

NBC and Fox have both unleashed their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. I’m excited to see Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. Most of the new shows they have line-up don’t really interest me, but there are a few that have caught my eye. PanAm is another 1960’s based TV show that will go against AMC’s Mad Men and NBC’s The Playboy Club. There’s a show called Revenge that sounds really interesting, but the new series I’m most excited about is is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.
Here is ABC’s full schedule along with a description of all of their shows. Go through them below and let us know what TV series you’re most excited about seeing.

Talking to reporters at NBC’s summer press junket in Pasadena, Calif., Aussie host Darren McMullen says ABC’s veteran hit “paints a very fluffy, romantic picture of relationships, but it’s not real.” “Life in a relationship isn’t all limos and champagne dinners,” he says. ” is putting people in stressful situations and seeing if they can work together as a team. ABC has ordered a series of 101 Ways To Leave A Gameshow. The programme sees unsuccessful contestants being ejected from the show in unusual ways, such as in catapults, bungees, helicopters and human cannons. A British version of the show aired last summer and was hosted by Steve Jones. Tim Hincks, the UK CEO of the show's production company Endemol, described 101 Ways as "a unique and ambitious format". Meanwhile, Endemol's North American chairman David Goldberg said: "[It's] (more)...

AMC has greenlit a full season of the TV series Hell on Wheels, which was written and created by Joe and Tony Gayton. This is the same station that gave us Mad Men and The Walking Dead.
The series tells the epic story of post-Civil War America, focusing on a Confederate soldier who sets out to exact revenge on the Union soldiers who have killed his wife. His journey takes him west to Hell on Wheels, a dangerous, raucous, lawless melting pot of a town that travels with and services the construction of the first transcontinental railroad, an engineering feat unprecedented for its time. The series examines the railroad's institutionalized greed and corruption, the immigrant experience, and the plight of the newly emancipated African-Americans during reconstruction. Over time, Hell on Wheels chronicles this potent turning point in our nation's history, and how uncivilized the business of civilization can be.

London -- Endemol chief creative officer Paul Romer is parting company with the global reality producer after 15 years, the company said Monday. He had been in post since 2009.
Romer was part of the original creative team behind "Big Brother" and exec produced early series of the show alongside John de Mol when it launched in the Netherlands.
He will be replaced by a new creative board made up of Tim Hincks, CEO of Endemol U.K., David Goldberg, chairman of Endemol North America and Endemol Group president Marco Bassetti.
The shift reflects the fact that recent Endemol successes including "The Money Drop" and "101 Ways To Leave A Gameshow" have been launched in the U.K. market and then rolled out to the U.S. and internationally.
As part of the restructure, Iris Boelhouwer has been promoted to managing director of creative operations, coordinating the producer's creative operations around the world.

I’m told that Römer has increasingly found himself a fish out of water at Endemol. Römer developed Big Brother with company founder John De Mol and, as exec producer, steered the show through its Netherlands launch and the Us after that. He was only appointed Chief Creative Officer in 2009. Römer is being replaced by a creative board that includes company president Marco Bassetti; Tim Hincks, CEO of Endemol UK; and David Goldberg, chairman of Endemol North America. The board will oversee and direct new TV formats, such as 101 Ways To Leave a Gameshow, which has been playing during the key Saturday night slot here on BBC1. Fox in the Us has commissioned a broadcast pilot, while Germany, Brazil and Turkey are making their own versions of the show, where contestants are violently ejected from the quiz.

It's never been easy going for father-daughter acting duo Ryan and Tatum O'Neal. They've spent the bulk of the last three decades estranged. And now that they're looking to put the past behind them, they'd naturally prefer to do so on camera.
Variety reports producers at Endemol USA are pitching reality soap "Lost and Found." The series will follow the family as they move back under the same roof and attend therapy together, looking for answers to how it all went wrong.
Sounds like a far cry from the O'Neals of the summer of 2009. Ryan admits to not even recognizing Tatum when he saw her at Farrah Fawcett's funeral:
"I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blond woman comes up and embraces me," he told Vanity Fair. "I said to her, 'You have a drink on you?...

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Tatum O'Neal will star alongside her dad Ryan O'Neal in the upcoming reality show, Lost and Found being produced by Endemol USA. The two will reunite for the cameras, with Tatum moving into her dad's Malibu home. Their relationship has been filled with drama for the past 25 years. The reconciliation between the two started after Ryan O'Neal's longtime love Farrah Fawcett died last year. Endemol chairman David Goldberg had this to say about the father-daughter project: "From the moment I met Ryan and Tatum, I knew they were genuine about telling their real story. Of course they've had their share of trials and tribulations that have been very public, but ultimately this comes down to a father-daughter story that viewers will be able to relate to on many different levels."...

Saddened by the idea of a summer without bellyflops, faceplants and ball-bouncing? Worse not, sports fans. ABC is reportedly renewing "Wipeout" for a third season. "We've always maintained that because 'Wipeout' is a big, exciting stunt show and also a comedy that it had the ability to be a long-lasting show," David Goldberg, chairman of Endemol North America, tells The Hollywood Reporter. "In this climate, any time you can get a show that's on the new side picked up for more episodes is exciting." In its second season, "Wipeout" is averaging 8.8 million viewers in its Wednesday 8 p.m. home....

ABC is picking up a third season of its successful summer reality hit "Wipeout" from Endemol.
The network is bringing the series back next year. At a time when few broadcast reality shows earn second or third seasons, the return of the stunt-driven series shows that last year's popular debut was no flash in the pan.

On Super Bowl Sunday, football fans will have a choice: the Boss or the Big Balls.
ABC plans to counterprogram NBC's game-day entertainment telecasts with a sports-star-studded episode of the summer obstacle-course hit "Wipeout."
The Disney-owned network will air a brief football-themed "Wipeout" special against NBC's official halftime show headlined by Bruce Springsteen. Then, during NBC's post-Bowl presentation of "The Office," ABC will air an hourlong "Wipeout" in which cheerleaders compete against male "couch potato" sports fans.
The strategy will mark the first time in five years a major broadcast network has gone after a rival's Super Bowl momentum with original entertainment programming.

Endemol USA is launching a new division focusing on branded entertainment for TV and digital media.
The new unit will be overseen by Jon Vlassopulos, newly promoted to senior vp digital media and branded entertainment. He signaled his intent to look for acquisitions among agencies that specialize in the latter because of the increasing interest from Madison Avenue on integrating brands and programming.
“We’ve been looking at a whole bunch of companies in this space,” Vlassopulos said.
Both divisions will expand, with Joerg Bachmaier being elevated to vp business development, strategic planning, digital media.
Endemol also has brought on two new executives: David Armour as vp of Endemol Digital Studios and Jonathan Sandak as vp branded entertainment.
“(Vlassopulos) has done a great job of establishing us as leaders in new growth business areas, and his well-deserved promotion along with Joerg’s is a direct reflection of their hard work,” Endemol USA president David Goldberg said.
Previously, Endemol left it to producers on individual TV series like “Deal or No Deal” to handle brand integrations. On the digital side, Endemol has been producing more brand-integrated programs with partners including AOL.
