Babelgum has always had a great eye for sci-fi comedy and today they launched into orbit Date a Human to join such popular series as The Crew and Hurtling Through Space at an Alarming Rate on their sci-fi comedy channel. But this one is for the ladies...or at least ladies who would be interested in seeing Charlie O'Connell naked. Now that I have your attention: Date a Human follows interplanetary cutie Allie through the trials and tribulations of being a single human woman in a world full of single human men who just want her for her ability to repopulate the planet. Her roommate Ruthie, an alien sex kitten (pretty literally), turns her on to the dating site DateaHuman.com where she can try to find a man...er, alien, that loves her, not her eggs. Directed by Joy Gohring, it is delightful to see a "female" series that...

Oxygen will add three new original series to its schedule in the summer as well as syndicated acquisition "Living Single". "Single" comes from production company Carsey-Werner-Mandabach, which has an ownership stake in the female-targeted cable network. CWM, which already has provided Oxygen with such sitcoms as "Roseanne", "A Different World" and "Cybill", also will contribute one of the new originals, "Good Girls Don't", formerly known as "My Best Friend Is a Big Fat Slut" (HR 1/22). Oxygen's first scripted series, "Girls", is about a pair of twentysomething Minnesota women (played by Joy Gohring and Bree Turner) who move to Los Angeles. The premiere date for the eight-episode "Girls" has been moved from April to June 4.

Oxygen has picked up the comedy pilot My Best Friend Is a Big Fat Slut to series. The project, from Oxygen co-founder Carsey-Werner-Mandabach, marks the cable channel's first original scripted series and CWM's first cable series. The female-skewing network has ordered eight episodes of the show (formerly My Roommate Is a Big Fat Slut), including the pilot, for an April premiere. "This series is everything that we love; it's edgy, young and outrageous," Oxygen president of programming Debby Beece said. "Carsey-Werner-Mandabach are the masters of the situation comedy, and we are delighted to make a home for their newest venture in primetime on Oxygen." Big Fat Slut, from writer Claudia Lonow (ABC's Less Than Perfect), chronicles the lives and loves of Jane (Joy Gohring) and Marjorie (Bree Turner), two twentysomething Minnesota transplants to Los Angeles who are pursuing the glamorous Hollywood life. "Claudia has captured a tone which depicts modern single people of today," CWM's Caryn Mandabach said. "We like to think of it as 'Friends' uncensored. It's funny, relatable -- and did we say funny?" The Big Fat Slut cast also includes Brent King, Kevin Christy and Nicole Hiltz.
