When Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy series The Gentlemen debuted on Netflix in March, it came in at #1 Global Top 10 for English-Language Series, garnering 1.2B minutes viewed in its first four days on the platform, according to Nielsen. That being said, will there be a Season 2?
“It wasn’t genuinely discussed,” star Theo James admitted today, in an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders TV. “I think it would be a wrangling process with all of us and Guy. But also, I think with a show like this, if you’re going to do more, you need to come up with a really interesting conceit for Season 2. Because as much as we enjoyed it and as fun as it was, it needs narrative drive.”
If an interesting idea is put forward, he said, then maybe another installment is in the cards. “But I think before that,” James added, “there needs to be discussions,...

“The Gentlemen” is a Guy Ritchie project — of course, style is substance. And nowhere is that more powerful than in the clothes worn by the Horniman family.
Set in the same world as Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, the Netflix series places Theo James’ Eddie Horniman — newly minted as a duke and the surprising heir to his father’s estate — in the midst of tense negotiations with a slew of increasingly baffling questionable characters. (A shootout in an upper-class neighbor’s secret vault is a series highlight.) Disconcerted to find out that his father allowed a marijuana farm to flourish on their property under the watchful eye of Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), Eddie initially tries to extricate himself from the agreement before circumstances force him to engage in the admittedly ungentlemanly life of a gangster. And through it all, the Hornimans remain iconoclastically stylish.

Pour a glass of top-shelf whiskey and put your fists up, because a brand-new Guy Ritchie gangster romp is coming to steal your attention.
Premiering on March 7, The Gentlemenintroduces television audiences to a new slice of the world initially brought to life in Ritchie’s 2020 film of the same name. Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen sheds light on the aristocracy of Britain. I feel it’s an interesting interpretation of the families of the royal court during times when they have lost all administrative power. As someone who despises aristocracy, I’m not complaining either. It’s a guilty pleasure at this point. But again, moving on to a more objective perspective, The Gentlemen has some very captivating characters. Theo James’ Duke Eddie himself is quite the man of the hour, but other characters are no less than him either. Lady Sabrina is one of those powerful characters who seems like they might not have enough role to play, but regardless, she shines.

I suppose Guy Ritchie’s name is enough for people to open their Netflix accounts and start streaming the new The Gentlemen series, a crime drama about an aristocrat who gets embroiled in a narcotics racket and tries hard to pull himself out of it to lead a peaceful life on his estate. The show is a Netflix original, was released on March 7, 2024, and is possibly one of the best crime dramas to come out of the streaming platform.

Why Was Eddie Back In Halstead, England?
Edward ‘Eddie’ Horniman was a captain with the British army stationed at the Turkish-Syrian border when he was informed about his father the Duke of Halstead, having had a fall, and that the family was gathering to meet him as he may not survive. Eddie, being the younger son of the duke, was back in Halstead to meet his family and ailing father.

Guy Ritchie’s spinoff of his quintessential British crime drama of the same name finally comes to a finale in episode 8. I had hoped to see some resemblance in the characters in the series, but I can’t say that I am disappointed at all. One can’t deny that the characters in The Gentlemen are a treat to watch. About Theo James, I never thought of him as that significant an actor, but now I feel he might even pull off a decent James Bond. The plotline at least for a few episodes does feel like a spinoff about the everyday adventures of Eddie and Susie, yet it wraps up pretty intensely towards the end and packs a punch in The Gentlemen finale.

While forgettable to anyone not tasked with remembering it, Guy Ritchie’s 2019 feature film “The Gentlemen” does embody the two distinct halves shaping the writer-director’s career to date. At the height of its binary world are the aristocrats: affluent Englishmen whose titles and estates grant them access to a refined class of lords and ladies. On the other end are the criminals: conniving Brits who do the dirty work necessary just to get by. What brings them together is Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), an American living in London who builds a massive marijuana business by hiding his farms under the sweeping landscapes of the rich and fortified. The aristocrats get a hefty kickback to support their lavish lifestyle, and the criminals get the relative safety only wealth can offer. Two classes colliding — which happens once someone inevitably screws up — is what gives “The Gentlemen” its juice. Or it’s supposed to,...

At the end of The GentlemenSeason 1, Eddie Horniman (Theo James) gives his literal partner in crime, Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), a closer look at his signet ring. It has his family motto on it. “Non sine periculo,” he reads. “Not without danger.” Those words could easily apply to Episode 8, which is filled with blood, backstabbing, andfront-stabbing.
In the first half of the episode, Susie’s father, underworld crime boss Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone), informs his daughter and Eddie that he’s selling the weed business. All they have to do is share the news with the proper interested parties — conniving American billionaire Uncle Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito), smug scammer Sticky Pete (Joshua McGuire), and volatile drug baroness Mercy (Martha Millan) — and obtain their offers. All bids must be over £150 million and arrive by the end of the week via pigeon.

The Gentlemen isn’t your normal crime-drama and that’s made clear from the very first episode and the series is all the better for it. Guy Ritchie’s incredible style in storytelling is front and center and while it may stumble at some points, at the end the series gives the fans what it wants (excluding a cameo from Matthew McConaughey or Charlie Hunnam), and the characters in this series are either balls to walls crazy or so suave that they make criminality look sexy.
The Netflix series follows the story of Eddie Horniman, the second son of the Horniman family who surprisingly gets everything after his father’s death, but Eddie is even more surprised as he finds out that Daddy didn’t make all that money investing in stocks, but had some unsavory cohorts, who work on the other side of the law. When Eddie Horniman (Theo James) first gets into the weed business, it’s not because he wants to. It’s because he’s just inherited his father’s estate, along with the criminal pact that’s secretly funded it all these years, and because he sees no other choice to pay off the astronomical debt that his big brother (Daniel Ings) owes to bloodthirsty cocaine dealers. Thus Eddie dives into the illegal-drug industry out of a sense of obligation, rather than out of any real eagerness to break bad.
The show he’s in, Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, similarly feels like the dutiful product of a prior commitment. Like Eddie, the series tries to deliver what’s expected of it, and like Eddie, it more or less gets the job done. But where Eddie very quickly discovers he’s uniquely suited for the gig he never wanted, the action...

The White Lotus star Theo James has to extricate his aristocratic family from the clutches of a criminal underworld in the official trailer for The Gentlemen, Guy Ritchie’s gangster romp for Netflix based on the Hollywood director’s 2019 film of the same name.
James plays Eddie Horniman, a well-bred Brit who inherits his father’s country estate, only to discover it’s part of an industrial cannabis empire in the East End of London run by shady career criminal Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone).
“So to stop ourselves being associated with criminals, we are going to become criminals,” Horniman announces at one point in the trailer. To beat the gangsters at their own game, he gets into business with Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario, who ruthlessly runs the drug empire on behalf of her father.
