Brian Teta, the executive producer of The View, has signed a new contract for the show that will keep him at the often buzzy daytime talker for the next four years.
The show has been up 3% in total viewers season to date, and has continued to top daytime talk shows and news programs in viewership and households. There are signs of an election-year influence in the uptick: The day after the Iowa caucuses, when ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jon Karl guested, the show’s 2.85 million viewers was its most watched telecast in nearly two years.
“Every time there’s a big moment in the news cycle, whether it’s the State of the Union, or a Republican debate or anything like that, I see a spike the next morning, even in pop culture world where it’s something like the Oscars,” Teta said. “People are tuning in to see...

In the wake of TV producer Bill Geddie’s death, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg has opened up about what has kept her on the daytime talk show for the past 16 years.
During the ABC series’ tribute to its late executive producer, Goldberg revealed that she first met Barbara Walters and her longtime producer once when the two were driving through Malibu for the series, “Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People.” Soon after, Goldberg, Walters and Geddie became friends. It’s through that friendship that the co-creators of “The View” first offered Goldberg her current hosting gig.
“I said, ‘Yeah, I need a job.’ You know? It’s nice when people offer you work. I was like, ‘Yes I’ll come.’ And here I be,” Goldberg said. “I remain out of respect to the show, and out of respect to the two of them who gave me a shot when no one else would.

The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg issued a pointed correction to co-host Ana Navarro during a lengthy tribute to the ABC talk show’s fallen former leader Bill Geddie, who died last week at the age of 68.
While discussing on Monday’s episode Geddie’s tough-but-fair 17-year legacy as the daytime staple’s co-creator and executive producer, Navarro remarked that the late TV vet was responsible for both Og panelist Joy Behar’s 1997 hiring and controversial (and ultimately short-lived) firing in 2013.

The View paid tribute today to the late Bill Geddie, the show’s co-creator with Barbara Walters and longtime executive producer who died July 20 of coronary issues.
In addition to clips featuring Geddie’s usually comic appearances on the show, View moderator Whoopi Goldberg and current and past panelists remembered their old boss with affection and candor.
“He was 68 years old, really cranky and really funny,” Goldberg said at the start of the segment.
Watch clips from the tribute below.
Both Goldberg and former co-host Sherri Shepherd recalled how Geddie offered words of support and encouragement during times of controversy and backlash.
For Shepherd, the controversy came early in her View tenure when, in 2007, she suggested she didn’t know if the earth was round or flat. “I’ve never thought about it.” Shepherd said at the time, but today said that after the episode, she told Geddie she knew...

Sherri Shepherd paid tribute over the weekend to her former View boss Bill Geddie, who died July 20 of coronary-related factors. He was 68.
Shepherd, who served as a View co-host from 2007 to 2014 before launching her own eponymous talk show last fall, said on Instagram Saturday that Geddie’s passing left her “completely devastated,” adding, “Bill took a chance and cast me — a standup comic with no talk show experience. On December 30, 2022, legendary journalist and interviewer Barbara Walters died at the age of 93. She changed the landscape for women in the industry, became the highest-paid TV journalist, and took her "women's interest" stories on "The Today Show" and turned it into a co-hosting position — a first for a woman. She also became the first female co-anchor of "ABC Evening News." Later on, in 1997, Walters created, produced, and served as a co-host for the ABC talk show "The View," which gave voices to women from different walks of life and different generations. Now that show will honor its founder with a dedicated special, according to a post from the Instagram account for "The View."

Daytime talk show “Tamron Hall” is making some behind-the-scenes changes.
Candi Carter, who has spent the past five years as an executive producer on “The View,” will take over for Talia Parkinson-Jones as showrunner of the topical daytime talk show hosted by “Today” and MSNBC veteran Hall. “Tamron Hall” is dark for at least the next two weeks amid the widespread shutdowns due to coronavirus precautions.
Carter will take the reins from Talia Parkinson-Jones, who was co-executive producer and showrunner on the series produced for first-run syndication by Walt Disney Television. Hall’s show debuted in September. The show serves up a mix of celebrity guests and feel-good segments with everyday people. The series debuted in September and has been renewed for a second season in the fall.

“As one of the highest-rated new talk shows in five years, Tamron Hall is connecting with audiences in such a powerful and unique way and we are thrilled to build on that momentum with a second season,” Burke said in a press release. “Tamron’s authenticity and her stunning ability to engage with viewers is remarkable and we look forward to continued success working with our incredible station partners.”

The journey of new daytime talk show Tamron Hall went through a lot before landing at ABC and as the titular host revealed at TCA, the show started with Harvey Weinstein and then came after her much-buzzed-about departure from Today where she was ousted and Megyn Kelly took over with a segment that eventually sank. Despite the obstacles, Hall came out on top with her new show and is very open about her exit.
Hall pointed out that she never measured herself by the success or failure of Kelly. “I already knew [NBC] made the wrong choice when I walked out the door,” she said. “It gave me the opportunity to meet these two people. I knew I was making the right decision.”

Tamron Hall is not ready to gloat about Megyn Kelly’s short-lived NBC News tenure, which resulted in Hall’s eventual departure from the network in 2017.
While promoting her upcoming daytime talk show Monday, “Tamron Hall,” she said that even if Kelly had been successful, NBC News still made the wrong choice in bumping Hall off the “Today” show — she co-hosted the 9 a.m. hour with Al Roker — to make room for Kelly.
“Megyn’s success or not, I already knew they made the wrong choice when I left the door. So I would never measure by her success or perceived lack thereof. I knew the day I left that it was the wrong decision, that’s why I left,” Hall said during the Television Critics Association press tour. “For me, I didn’t know what would come after leaving that situation. I’m blessed and fortunate that this is the end result.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck tried to quit “The View” during a commercial break following on on-air fight with moderator and show co-creator Barbara Walters, according to audio obtained by Variety.
On Aug. 2, 2006, during a debate over an Fda proposal for the morning-after pill to become available over-the-counter, Walters attempted to reel in a worked-up Hasselbeck.
“Elisabeth, calm down, dear,” Walters said on live TV. She then advised the conservative and much younger Hasselbeck to “listen to other people’s opinions” and not get “so crazy.”
“We have to go on, and we have to learn how to discuss these things in some sort of rational way,” Walters added, throwing the show to commercial.

Updated: Before Elisabeth Hasselbeck was fired from “The View” in 2013, she tried to quit the daytime talk show in the middle of a commercial break.
In the new book “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View,'” Variety‘s Ramin Setoodeh details a day in a Hot Topics debate that got too heated for the show’s former conservative co-host.
As Setoodeh writes in the book, on August 2, 2006, Hasselbeck was having an argument with Barbara Walters and Joy Behar on TV about a proposal from the Fda to allow the morning-after pill for over-the-counter consumption.
Hasselbeck, who argued taking the pill is “the same thing as birthing a baby and leaving it out in the street,” wouldn’t let the other co-hosts provide their opposing points of view.

For most of Season 10 of “The View,” which aired from 2006 to 2007, Rosie O’Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck publicly feuded on TV. But in a new book, O’Donnell reveals more complicated emotions about her former conservative colleague.
In “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View'” by Variety‘s Ramin Setoodeh, O’Donnell talks about the infamous day in May 2007 where she had a 10-minute fight on TV with Hasselbeck about the Iraq War. An excerpt of the chapter, “My Mouth Is a Weapon,” which details what happened and O’Donnell’s subsequent departure from “The View,” will appear in this week’s magazine edition of Variety.
To many viewers, it looked like O’Donnell and Hasselbeck were mortal enemies. But O’Donnell says that wasn’t the case. “I loved her,” O’Donnell says in the book. O’Donnell recalls how she initially tried to mold Hasselbeck...

Miami — Tamron Hall is proud of her TV trifecta.
For a few years, the former “Today” anchor could be found most weekdays airing on three networks at the same time.
During her 2010-2016 tenure as a co-anchor of “Today’s” 9 a.m. hour, Hall would follow that show by switching to an anchor slot on MSNBC. And she also hosted the NBC-produced series “Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall” for Investigation Discovery. There were many days when the 9 a.m. hour of “Today” would air on the West Coast while she was anchoring live on MSNBC and ID would run a block of “Deadline: Crime” episodes.

Barbara Walters actually had quite an idea 20 years ago. Different women, different points of view. It was called...The View. Already a trailblazing newswoman herself, Walters and co-creator Bill Geddie assembled an all-woman panel to conduct interviews and discuss the pressing issues of the day—the "Hot Topics"—from the serious to the silly. Like any new show, especially one trying to find its footing in the ultra-competitive network morning show landscape (now made all the more congested by cable and online options), there were some growing pains. The tendency for the ladies to interrupt or talk over each other also became fodder for many a spoof take on the talk show. But...
