Upon hearing the news that the Trump Organization’s former chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg had pleaded guilty to tax fraud on Thursday, Trevor Noah was stunned during last night’s episode of “The Daily Show” as he began counting just how many present and past Trump allies have now gone to prison.
“Can we just take a moment to appreciate how many people associated with Donald Trump have ended up in prison?” he said. “His lawyer (Michael Cohen), his campaign manager (Paul Manafort), his deputy campaign chairman (Rick Gates), now the chief financial officer of his organization.”
He added: “Usually, you’ve got to run a drug cartel to have this many friends doing hard time. At this point, it’s basically El Chapo and Donald Trump.”

Alexandria, Virginia — Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s case against Paul Manafort, the once-mighty political fixer and ex-chairman of President Trump’s 2016 campaign, rests in large part on four words. On Day 6 of the blockbuster trial, the jury heard those words uttered by Mueller’s star witness, Rick Gates: “At Mr. Manafort’s direction.”
Mueller’s lawyers on Tuesday finished their two-day direct examination of Gates, Manafort’s former colleague who has been cooperating with the government since February. They have built their case methodically, attempting to show beyond a reasonable...

Stephen Colbert opened his Late Show monologue Tuesday with a celebration of Robert Mueller’s birthday and the best gift possible for his investigation, Rick Gates’ damning testimony against Paul Manafort.
“Gates has already pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI and on the stand, he made his former boss’ guilty perfectly clear,” Colbert said.
“And it gets better because Gates admitted on the stand that he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from Paul Manafort. He not only did crimes with Manafort, he did crimes at Manafort and on Manafort.

Stephen Colbert continued to mock Donald Trump on “The Late Show” for his tweets that acknowledged his son, Donald Trump Jr., met with a Russian official to get information on Hillary Clinton.
“The president is still dealing with the fallout from his disastrous Twitter confession that his campaign colluded with the Russians in Trump Tower, when he admitted that the meeting was about getting dirt on Hillary Clinton from the Russians — which, I know, is only a crime if you enforce the laws of the United States,” Colbert joked in his monologue Tuesday.
Trump tweeted Sunday about the 2016 meeting in Trump Tower, which the administration originally said was about Russian adoption. Trump said in his tweets that the meeting was to get information that could hurt Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

Paul Manafort’s legal headaches just intensified.
The former Trump campaign chairman has been indicted on additional new charges. He is being charged with obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice. Manafort’s business partner Konstantin Kilimnik has also been indicted.
Manafort has already been a target of special counsel Robert S. Mueller. He is under house arrest and awaiting trial after having been charged with bank fraud, conspiracy to launder money, and other crimes. He plead not guilty.
Earlier in the week, Mueller’s team accused Manafort of witness tampering and asked a judge to consider ending the former Trump advisor’s house arrest.
Mueller’s probe into possible collusion between the Russian government and members of the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election has already resulted in charges being brought against 20 people and three companies. Tomorrow, Sky 1 brings Martina Cole’s gritty crime novel The Runaway to the screen, with the first in a six-part drama, which will star a liberal smattering of British talent including Alan Cumming, Joanna Vanderham and volatile relative new-comer Jack O’ Connell. And lucky devil that I am, I’ve got my hands on the first two episodes for an early review.
If you haven’t yet come across any of the pre-release marketing, the official Sky synopsis goes like this:
East London kids Cathy Connor (Vanderham) and Eamonn Docherty (O’Connell) dream of a brighter future. But their hopes are shattered when Cathy is sent into care and then compelled to run away and forced to survive on the streets of Soho. Befriended by colourful transvestite Desrae (Cumming), Cathy grows up in the heart of London’s underworld, while Eamonn is drawn into a life of crime and ultimately flees to New York.
