TORONTO -- Canadian visual effects producer John Gajdecki on Monday said he was stepping aside from the company he founded 15 years ago to allow corporate executive Ron O'Brien to take the helm as president and CEO. O'Brien will assume day-to-day control of John Gajdecki Visual Effects, to be renamed GVFX, allowing Gajdecki to oversee the company's creative direction. Toronto-based GVFX produces visual effects for customers including Walt Disney Pictures, Miramax, Vivendi-Universal, Paramount, Sony Pictures, MGM, Sony Pictures Television and CBS. "Now that we have a staff of more than 100 with offices in Toronto, Los Angeles and Vancouver, we have grown to the point where the next logical step is to bring aboard someone with a strong and diverse skill set in business," Gadjecki said in a statement explaining O'Brien's appointment. O'Brien was most recently chairman and CEO of Toronto-based high-tech firm Datahorse Ltd. "I'll never get an Academy Award for management," Gadjecki said in an interview. "But I could get an Academy Award for visual effects. So I want someone to manage the company better, and Ron fills that bill."...
