The children of Steve Marriott, along with his bandmates and fellow rock legends, are fighting against the potential release of recordings featuring new AI-generated versions of the late singer’s vocals.
According to Variety, the recordings were authorized by Marriott’s third wife, Toni Marriott, to whom the rock icon was married to for only two years before he tragically died in a fire at age 44 in 1991.
Steve’s daughter Mollie, on behalf of her siblings, has issued a statement decrying the potential release of these AI-generated recordings. Her stance has been endorsed by Small Faces’ Kenney Jones and Humble Pie’s Peter Frampton and Jerry Shirley, along with such legends as Robert Plant, David Gilmour, Bryan Adams, Paul Weller, Paul Rodgers, and others.
The statement reads as follows:

Master P is one of the most successful rappers and producers of all time, but like any other recording artist, he’s never earned a dollar in royalties for when his recordings get played on U.S. radio stations. This is because for as long as radio has existed, U.S. law hasn’t required stations to pay the performers on songs, only the songwriters. It’s a uniquely American phenomenon as markets in many other countries have paid both creators for years.

Ozzy Osbourne is known to many as the Prince of Darkness, but now he’s got a new nickname: “The Betty White of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” That comes courtesy of Peter Frampton, a fellow inductee in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024.
Frampton was asked by Rolling Stone about Ozzy getting in the Rock Hall for the second time (he was also inducted as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006), and the guitar hero responded, “The man is the Betty White of rock & roll.”
We’re not sure Ozzy will be using that as a tagline anytime soon, but Frampton was surely relating the metal icon’s long-lasting career and lovable persona to that of the beloved late Golden Girls actress. As far as potentially jamming with Ozzy on a rendition of “Crazy Train” at the Rock Hall induction ceremony this October, Frampton enthused, “That would be fantastic.

After three decades of eligibility where he didn’t appear on a single ballot, Peter Frampton was starting to think he’d never be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But once voters finally had to chance to select him earlier this year, things changed very quickly. He learned the good news over the weekend when his manager phoned him up to say he made it. “I was absolutely blown away,” Frampton says. “My mind has been sort of a blur ever since I found out, especially...

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has revealed the names of 16 artistes who will be inducted in 2024. According to ‘Variety’, the diverse list includes R&b/rock pioneer Big Mama Thornton, pop superstars Cher and Dionne Warwick, as well as 1970s-rooted rockers like Peter Frampton, Foreigner, and Ozzy Osbourne, alongside 1990s icons such as the Dave Matthews Band and Mary J. Blige.
Jimmy Buffett’s inclusion among the inductees comes as a surprise. His entry is unexpected not only because the late singer/songwriter was not on the ballot this year but also because he had never been nominated before.
‘Variety’ reports that the Rock Hall’s committee, seemingly in a sentimental mood after Buffett’s passing seven months ago, chose to honour him via a separate, non-voted category for “musical excellence”.

An animated video for Mark Knopfler’s all-star charity single “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” – which brought together a stunning lineup of over 60 guitar gods to raise funds for Teen Cancer America and the Teenage Cancer Trust – has been released. It features the final recording of Jeff Beck along with contributions by Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, Slash, Ronnie Wood, Joan Jett, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Sting.
The song came out a week ago, but it was difficult to discern who was playing what part throughout the ten-minute song.

Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.
Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

Prime Video’s “Ricky Stanicky,” the latest comedy from director Peter Farrelly, is filled with outrageous moments revolving around John Cena as Rod, a down-on-his-luck performer hired by a group of friends to pose as their nonexistent pal. The undeniable highlights, however, are the moments in which we see the Atlantic City lounge act for which Rod dresses as iconic performers, from Peter Frampton and Britney Spears to Billy Idol and Boy George. The musical numbers walk a fine line, presenting Cena with costumes that immediately summon up associations with their sources while remaining just a bit off in order to show that Rod is not exactly one of Atlantic City’s top acts.
Cena credits the costume and hair and makeup departments with creating a wide variety of hilarious looks — and doing it on a ridiculously compressed schedule. “Not only did they transform me to look like Dee Snider,...

After showing his serious side with Green Book, the most derided Best Picture Oscar winner since Crash, then taking a critical drubbing with the Zac Efron vehicle The Greatest Beer Run Ever, Peter Farrelly returns to the kind of unapologetically silly comedy he and his brother Bobby parlayed into box office gold in the ‘90s. At least in theory. Efron gets stuck with another slipshod script in Ricky Stanicky, a sad demonstration that what was once considered outrageous, transgressive and anarchic now just seems crass, tired and witless.
Streaming on Prime from March 7, the movie might tap into the nostalgia of audiences raised on the Farrelly brand of goofy raunch, gross-out laughs, slapstick, escalating chaos and sticky sentiment. The virtual extinction of the midbudget R-rated studio comedies that thrived in the ‘90s might also help, as the success of Anyone But You recently showed.

Liam Gallagher has already made it clear he thinks the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is “full of Bumbaclarts,” and now he says the nomination of artists like Mariah Carey only reinforces his opinion.
Carey is one of this year’s 15 Hall of Fame nominees alongside Oasis and the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Cher, Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, and Sinead O’Connor. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced its nominees for 2024 induction on Saturday, and the contenders include superstar singers Cher, Sinéad O’Connor (who died last year), and Mariah Carey. The other individuals and groups nominated this year are Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade, and A Tribe Called Quest. Jamie Foxx’s favorite Beatles song is from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. And while hee made a good choice, Foxx associates the tune with an infamous movie. Here’s a look at one of the most widely hated movies of the 1970s and its connection to The Beatles.
Jamie Foxx said all of The Beatles’ songs displayed their ‘incredible talent’
During a 2009 interview with Cleveland.com, Foxx was asked to name the Fab Four tune he likes the most. He chose the title track from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” is a hard-rock ditty and a far cry from Foxx’s soul/hip-hop style.
“That sticks out because of the movie,” he opined. “Everything they did … incredible talent, man. It’s just amazing how great they were, how they influenced our culture, and how the music still stands up today.

George Harrison let another rock star use the guitar that Eric Clapton played on The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” What an honor! That rock star used the guitar on another classic song. “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is a beloved tune but it was never a hit in the United States.
The guitar from The Beatles’ ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ was used in a soul song
Peter Frampton is a rock star who was part of the bands The Herd and Humble Pie. He also had a number of solo hits, including “Do You Feel Like We Do,” “Baby, I Love Your Way,” “Show Me the Way,” and “I’m in You.” In a 2022 Loudersound interview, Frampton recalled what it was like getting to work with George and company. “It was: ‘Nice to meet you, man … Do you want to play?’ I said: ‘You mean now?’

John Legend named his favorite Beatles song and he made a good choice. His explanation, however, was awful. He said a certain Beatles song stuck out to him because it was adapted into a movie. That movie was so terrible George Harrison publicly attacked it.
John Legend’s favorite Beatles song is from ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’
During a 2009 interview with Cleveland.com, Legend was asked to name his favorite song by The Beatles. He picked the title track from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. While that tune isn’t as acclaimed as “Yesterday” or “Strawberry Fields Forever,” it boasts a catchy hard-rock riff and some of the Fab Four’s trademarked British humor.
“That sticks out because of the movie,” Legend said. “Everything they did … incredible talent, man. It’s just amazing how great they were, how they influenced our culture, and how the music still stands up today.

The best music sometimes causes physical reactions in listeners. For example, Peter Frampton said one song from The Beatles’ Rubber Soul gives him “goosebumps.” Frampton also revealed how he learned one of The Beatles’ codenames.

During a 2009 interview with Cleveland.com, Frampton named his favorite Beatles song. Frampton’s comment is interesting, as John’s performance on the song could just as easily be interpreted as detached or sarcastic.

Dolly Parton is arguably the most beloved living American. How many people are alive today because Dolly told them to get the Covid vaccine back in early 2021? Of course, she’s a paragon of country music, but her reach goes far beyond Nashville, from the disco pop of her working-woman masterpiece “9 to 5” to the soft-rock bliss of her classic Kenny Rogers duet “Islands in the Stream.” And the crossover love has been reflected back; one of the most popular cover songs of all time is Whitney Houston’s...

It was a few minutes past midnight when Missy Elliott stepped up to the podium at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and cemented her place in history as the first female hip-hop artist to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She’d spent the past four hours witnessing speeches and performances from acts across the vast spectrum of rock, including Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, and Olivia Rodrigo. Near the end of her speech, tears started to flow as the gravity of the moment hit her seemingly all at once.
