Lacking in Ideas, 'Lost' Producer to End the Series in 2010

6 January 2010 8:33 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

TV bosses decided to end hit mystery series "Lost" because they "ran out of ideas". The show, starring Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly, focuses on a group of plane crash survivors stranded on a desert island. It began in 2004 and is set to conclude this year, 2010 at the end of the sixth season.

And now co-creator Damon Lindelof has admitted some of the past episodes weren't up to standard, and they didn't want to risk running out of ideas again by keeping the series going. He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "Look, it would be nice to look back and say, 'We love every episode of 'Lost' and every episode turned out the way we wanted it to'. There are s**tty episodes of 'Lost' that we wish we had never written."

'Lost' Showrunners Discuss The Narrative Shift And Tone Of The Final Season

6 January 2010 9:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Is "The 'Lost' Supper" a little too vague to satisfy your "Lost" sweet tooth? Trust me, you haven't seen anything yet. Showrunners and executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse are veritable virtuosos when it comes to offering evasive answers — but that doesn't make their words any less compelling.

The pair participated in a lengthy interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the upcoming swan song for "Lost," offering some insight into the narrative devices and tone of the final season.

For three seasons, "Lost" relied on the flashback as a storytelling companion to the on-island adventures. Starting with the third season's finale, however, viewers were thrust into the future, where some of our favorite castaways had escaped the Island's clutches, but were no less miserable. The fifth season offered yet another twist on the flashback premise, bringing the show's cast and narrative back in time to the 1970s. But if fans thought that was crazy, »

"And now here we are six years later on broadcast with a show that is - not what it once was (in the ratings) - but still performing, and we're ending it on our own terms because we had s**tty episodes." »

The 'Lost' Supper: What Clues Can We Glean About The Show's Final Season From These New Promo Images?

5 January 2010 11:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"Lost" is coming to an end. Considered by many, including yours truly, to be one of the single greatest television shows of all time — heck, one of the most compelling stories ever told — there's an understandably high level of interest from fans as the mysterious show ramps up for its final episodes, beginning in February. While ABC has refused to air preview footage from the upcoming season based upon the requests of executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, that's not stopping them from creating their own brand new promotional campaigns.

Case in point — the latest "Lost" promo images depict the final season's regular cast as participating in "The Last Supper," the famous religious image that's been replicated for other shows in the past, such as "Battlestar Galactica" and "The Sopranos."

But as "Lost" is already a show based entirely upon paying attention to the details, it's clear that this »

DVD Review: ‘Lost’ Season Five

4 January 2010 1:12 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Lost is easily one of the most talked about, debated and confusing shows of the last decade. What started out as a tale of woe following the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island –five years ago I remember thinking it looked like a modern day Gilligan’s Island without the coconut radios–has now developed into a sci-fi narrative complete with time-traveling and a multitude of story-lines.

For all of the hubbub, ABC’s hit show has its fair share of detractors as well, as the left-turn plot changes and inability to tie much together is passed off as “creativity.” Still, season five of the show has been both audience and critically acclaimed. From Emmy nominations to Golden Globe recognition (again), the season marked a turning point for the show and has lured back dwindling audiences with its clever plot devices. (Who is Jacob!?)

What Does 2010 Hold For 'Lost,' 'FlashForward' And Our Other Favorite Television Shows?

1 January 2010 8:04 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

In 2009, we tried something new here on MTV Movies Blog. There's an abundance of television programming these days built around season-long and multi-season story arcs. The small-screen viewing experience is different of course -- no event blockbusters, 3-D (well... once, on "Chuck," and it was meh) or anything like that -- but a well-told tale is a hard thing to ignore. That's why we started covering a few shows with recaps, interviews and the like.

Well the TV is looking pretty damn good in 2010, so we'll be back with even more coverage. To get ready, ace contributor Josh Wigler and I sat down to consider a few of the shows we'll be watching in the coming months, commenting on what we see in store for them...
