Warning: spoilers for Doctor Who episode “The Devil’s Chord”.
Just before Doctor Who baddie the Toymaker was defeated, bound with salt, and imprisoned in a deep, deep vault at the end of 2023 episode “The Giggle”, he issued a threat. “My legions are coming,” he told the Doctor(s).
Well, now the Toymaker’s legions are here.
First, the Christmas special saw a galleon of baby-eating goblins fly in to cause coincidence-based-mischief in “The Church on Ruby Road“. Next, the Toymaker’s offspring Maestro put the willies up the Doctor by wreaking havoc in “The Devil’s Chord”. “That thing must be part of the Pantheon,” the Doctor said about Maestro. “Oh, God.”

The Maestro was one of the creepiest villains Doctor Who has ever had.
On paper, they seem like a ridiculous creature. They went to 1963 to steal all the music from the world, starting with the most influential rock band in history.
Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 2 took the Doctor and Ruby to Abbey Road to save the world by inspiring the Beatles while defeating an evil spirit, and it was as scary as it was fun.
The Abbey Road Sequences Lived Up To The Hype
When the Doctor Who Season 1 trailer came out, this was the story I was most excited about, and I was not disappointed one bit.
We didn't get to hear any real Beatles music—that would have probably cost a fortune in licensing fees—so instead, we got that musical number about there always being a twist at the end of the story and some weird pseudo-songs courtesy of the Maestro.

It’s the Rani. It’s always the Rani. Even when it definitely isn’t the Rani, well, it’s secretly the Rani.
That’s the running gag in the Doctor Who fandom every time it’s called upon to speculate about who or whatever is behind Something Mysterious and Evil happening on the show. If it’s not the Master, then it’s malevolent Time Lady the Rani. Monsters stealing time, cracks in the universe, milk going off even when kept in an adequately refrigerated container? It’s naughty scientist the Rani (even though it very rarely is).
As played by Kate O’Mara in season 22 and season 24, the character is a classic but little-seen Who villain whose reappearance on TV fans live both in eager anticipation and utter dread of. Four-part 1987 story “Time and the Rani” you see, is not popular.

The Tardis makes quite the entrance (we love it!) at Unit in the new trailer for the upcoming Doctor Who season, the first full one for Ncuti Gatwa as the (Fifteenth) Doctor and Millie Gibson as his companion, Ruby Sunday. “What if I change history by stepping on a butterfly?” Ruby worries as the two go off traveling through space and time on adventures. The trailer offers a look at some of the wild times and fun costumes ahead for the Doctor and Ruby, such as exploring the groovy ’60s, the Regency era in England, war-torn futures, and more (“Oh my Bridgerton!” she exclaims at one point). Plus, get a first look at Indira Varma as the Duchess, as well as some of the season’s other guest stars, which include Aneurin Barnard (Roger ap Gwilliam), Anita Dobson (Mrs. Flood), Yasmin Finney (Rose Noble), Michelle Greenidge (Carla), Jonathan Groff, Bonnie...

Liane Moriarty’s body of work is ripe for TV adaptations, and Peacock’s Apples Never Fall is a perfect illustration of why with a tale so juicy, you’d think it fell right off the tree.
This isn't your run-of-the-mill adaptation, either. This series is a complete package – a beginning, middle, and an oh-so-satisfying end. It's like Moriarty handed us the apple pie, not just the apples.
Every character gets their moment in the sun (or should I say spotlight?), evolving right before our very eyes. Talk about character development goals!
Showrunner and Executive Producer Melanie Marnich says Moriarty captures the essence of love, marriage, and family with raw honesty. “I think she had things to say about the contradictions within love and family, the complexity, the moral complexity within love and family that were just very true.”
Joy and Stan Delaney raised their four children amidst the background...

After a weekend of speculation and reports (some of which were spread in bad faith) regarding her casting, we now have our first look at rumored series 15 companion Varada Sethu on the set of Doctor Who. In photos taken at Penarth Pier in South Wales, we can see a gussied up Sethu in a dazzling vintage yellow dress alongside Ncuti Gatwa’s always stylish Doctor in a powder blue suit and rocking a new hairdo, as they flee the chaos unfolding on what looks like a 1950s American street. (The Doctor’s even brought the bowtie back. Perhaps he thinks they’re cool again?)
The leaked photos that made their way onto Twitter also show the Doctor and Sethu’s as of yet unnamed character hanging out in front of an old movie house, the fictional “Palazzo,” which is showing a film starring real-life 1950s Hollywood star Rock Hudson.

“Never seen a Tardis before?”
We’ve seen a lot of shocking things in Doctor Who, but that question, delivered directly at the camera, ranks among the most surprising. It comes at the end of this year’s Christmas special, “The Church on Ruby Road,” from Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson), the elderly neighbor of new companion Ruby Sunday. But it’s not just Mrs. Flood’s fourth-wall breaking that raises questions. It’s the fact that she’s a markedly different character than the one at the start of the special, who grouches to her neighbor Abdul (Hemi Yeroham) about the police box parked on her walk. She’s also different than she was midway through the episode, when the Tardis disappears before her, causing her to drop her groceries.
From those three brief scenes alone, it’s clear that Mrs. Flood is more than she initially seems.

The Fifteenth Doctor era of Doctor Who is well underway with Ncuti Gatwa‘s first full episode helming the Tardis. This year’s Christmas Special, “The Church on Ruby Road,” saw the Doctor not only face off with mischievous Goblins with a taste for baby scones but also meet his new companion, Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), who brings plenty of her own mysteries to the show. Who are her birth parents, what does her neighbor Mrs. Flood have to do with the upcoming season’s overarching plot, and what’s going on with the Hooded Woman who dropped her off at the church 24 years ago?
All questions we’ll have to wait to have answered in series 14, which is officially being marketed as Doctor Who season 1, marking the start of a new production era for the show, with returning showrunner Russell T Davies back at the helm.

Millie Gibson is introduced as Ruby Sunday and apparently learns the secret of her birth in the latest teaser for Disney+’s Doctor Who Christmas special, which will bow on Dec. 25.
The trailer opens to Christmas Eve long ago and a baby discovered abandoned in the snow by The Fifteenth Doctor Who, played for the first time by Ncuti Gatwa, as he comes upon the foundling in the shadow of a church.
Then later, apparently by chance, The Doctor meets Ruby Sunday, his new companion, played by Gibson, as they are brought together by fantastical goblins in their lives. The release of the teaser trailer comes as the popular BBC-Disney+ series gets set to return in 2024 with Gatwa taking on the titular role and becoming the newest incarnation of the errant Time Lord.

Tom Schwartz returns to Winter House for another season, this time without his partner in crime, Tom Sandoval from Vanderpump Rules.
Winter House started filming only days after the explosive scandal broke that Tom Sandoval was having a multi-month affair with close friend Rachel Leviss, while still in a decade-long romance with Ariana Madix. Schwartz and Sandoval were both supposed to appear in the new season of Winter House, but only Schwartz made the journey to Colorado.

Chief stew Aesha Scott ultimately ended up staying with the female crew member to ensure her safety. Captain Jason Chambers fired both offending crew members the next day.
Several fans praised Scott and Chambers for insisting upon a safe workspace. Plus, in light of the current chatter about reality star protections and possible legal action, producers were also commended for stepping in.
But this isn’t the first time Below Deck producers have stepped in when a situation escalated or became dangerous. Below Deck Mediterranean executive producer Nadine Rajabi, who is also the EP of Down Under has...

Pj Harvey is back with I Inside the Old Year Dying, her first album since 2016’s The Hope Six Demolition Project. Listen to the project below.
Harvey recorded I Inside the Old Year Dying at London’s Battery Studio with longtime collaborator John Parish and producer Flood. Marking her 10th studio album to date, the artist ascribed a sort of pensive feeling to the LP while citing the likes of Jonny Greenwood, Mica Levi, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and — of course — Bob Dylan as musical influences.
“I think the album is about searching, looking — the intensity of first love, and seeking meaning,” Harvey said in a statement. “Not that there has to be a message, but the feeling I get from the record is one of love — it’s tinged with sadness and loss, but it’s loving. I think that’s what makes it feel so welcoming: so open.”

In “A Child’s Question (July),” Pj Harvey sings in a jaunty rhythm, “Who’s inneath the Ooser-Rod?/Horny devil? Goaty God?”
The words sound playful as her guitar swells liquidly around her voice, and the couplet goes by so mellifluously, chased by whispers and chirping birds, that it’s easy go with the flow without wondering just what the heck an Ooser-Rod is. But when you look up the words’ meaning in Orlam — the novel in verse Harvey released last year, which she wrote in the dying (or maybe dead) dialect of the Dorset,...

A sense of yearning pervades Pj Harvey’s latest single, “I Inside the Old I Dying,” which will appear on her upcoming I Inside the Old Year Dying album, out July 7. She describes flora and fauna as “all waiting for His kingdom,” referencing someone named Wyman as she seems to become one with nature. “Slip from my childhood skin,” she sings before slipping into her native Dorset dialect, “I zing through the forest/I hover in the holway/and laugh into the leaves.” (Last year, Harvey released the book Orlam,...

Pj Harvey is back with “I Inside the Old I Dying,” the second look at her upcoming album I Inside the Old Year Dying. Check out the new single below.
Harvey’s latest offering feels particularly ghostly, bringing to mind the atmospheric sounds of 1998’s Is This Desire? “The dead brakes host the holly’s bloody beads/ They are His crown of thorns and He will rise again,” the artist cries. Even though I Inside the Old Year Dying was recorded live, Harvey’s voice sounds miles away from the song’s gentle guitar.
“This delicate and beautiful song eluded us until the very last day in the studio,” Harvey said in a statement. “Over the previous five weeks we had tried so many times to capture it and failed, and/but then John reinvented the feel of the guitar pattern. As he was demonstrating it in the control room,...

Pj Harvey is set to release her first album since 2106, I Inside the Old Year Dying — and she’s previewing it today with a somber track she’s titled, “A Child’s Question, August.” Although she quotes the King of Rock & Roll on the tune — “Love me tender, tender love” — the song revisits the folkish sound of her 2010 album, Let England Shake, with its easy tempo, sparse instrumentation, and Harvey’s soprano singing about rooks, corn, and cuckoos. She’ll reveal the full context of the song when she releases the album,...

Back in 1988, Shannon Strong was a scrappy young Denver punk musician playing in a band called the Pagan Cowboys while dreaming of something else. Inspired by the magazine ads of Neve recording consoles she taped on her bedroom wall as a kid and the flashing buttons at the fingertips of Star Trek’s Lieutenant Uhura, she wanted to be behind the recording desk as well as in front of it.
She fled the shackles of Reagan’s America first for London, then, after witnessing a “mindblowing” Einstürzende Neubauten gig, decided to explore Berlin.

Dempers, who usually maintains a low profile, said he’s not the only Below Deck Med cast member to hear from this particular fan. And that chef Dave White from season 7 also got the same request.

Dempers said there is a “dude” who has propositioned both him and White. “He sends videos having sex with his girlfriend asking me to come and join [them],” Dempers revealed on the Total Ship Show podcast.

Olivera laughed at the question because she hadn’t really thought about hooking up with someone else from Bravo. Cohen added that her answer didn’t have to be “so deep” but maybe someone from the Bravo universe who she thought was cute.

Katie Flood from Below Deck Mediterranean knows that fans wonder how she manages to spend so much time in Tulum, Mexico, and how she can afford what appears to be a luxurious and thrilling lifestyle.
But on the flip side, she and close friend Malia White, also from Below Deck Med, are constantly asked when they plan to settle down, get married, and have kids. “People, I guess are curious when we’re not on the boat, how it works with our travel life,” Flood told Showbiz Cheat Sheet.
So the friends came together to launch a new podcast, 30, Flirty and Flying, a platform for anyone, but especially women, on how to boldly take control of your life, travel, and pursue your dreams – even if that means bucking a traditional lifestyle.

But she doesn’t plan to stop there. White’s next goal is to work toward earning the same certification as Captain Sandy Yawn.

Seventy-five years after he shattered baseball’s history of racial segregation, Jackie Robinson is being rightfully celebrated for his tenacity and activism. But what about those Black superstars who soon followed in his large shadow? The illuminating History Channel documentary After Jackie (executive produced by LeBron James) focuses on three players who spent their glory years in the late 1950s and ’60s with the St. Louis Cardinals—Bill White, Curt Flood, and pitching ace Bob Gibson—helping take the team to the World Series and a title win. As they discovered while finding fame on the diamond during America’s civil-rights movement, integration didn’t necessarily mean equal treatment. Each fought back against prejudice on and off the playing field: segregated housing during spring training in Florida, a racist manager (later fired) who felt Gibson and Flood weren’t smart enough to be in the starting lineup. “It was tough...

Based on a popular 2003 mini-series by the BBC, Kevin Macdonald's State of Play is fast becoming one of the most popular thrillers of the last few years. Reviewers never fail to point out that while most thrillers resort to red herrings and impossible plot twists to keep up the tension, State of Play has a tighter script which manages to keep the suspense without resorting to cheap gimmicks.
The music is courtesy of Alex Heffes, the regular composer partner of Macdonald who've been scoring the director's movies since the humble beginnings of doing documentaries. Their feature films didn't stray too far away either: Touching the Void told the story of a dangerous mountain expedition while The Last King of Scotland was based around the character of Uganda's fearsome dictator Idi Amin (although this latter film contained fictionalized elements as well).
