In January 2024, Fourth Doctor companion Louise Jameson returned to Doctor Who in the short promotional film Leela vs the Time War for the release of the Season 15 Blu-ray boxset. It showed Jameson’s character on Gallifrey in the final moments of the Time War being threatened with extermination by the Daleks. “This is not how this ends,” says Leela, before transporting herself to the safety of the Tardis.
As reported by RadioTimes.com, writer/director Pete McTighe said at a BFI screening of 1977 episode “Horror of Fang Rock”, that he saw the new scene as “an opportunity to right [the] wrong” of Jameson’s character’s original exit, in which Leela was hurriedly married off to a Gallifreyan Time Lord.
McTighe has written increasingly ambitious promotional films for these series releases with original actors returning to play their roles, though the complexity of producing them means they won’t be done for every boxset.

Doctor Who season 15 comes to Blu-ray, with Horror Of Fang Rock leading the six-story collection. More here.
Never mind the fact that the entirety of Doctor Who – well, save for an episode or two – is available to watch on the BBC’s iPlayer service. There’s also the not-so-small matter of Doctor Who physical media releases, which continue thanks to the genuinely brilliant line of Blu-ray sets.
Next in line? Some Tom Baker magic, thanks to series 15 of Doctor Who becoming the subject of the latest set. This one runs to seven discs, dating all the way back to 1977, and includes the following stories…
Horror Of Fang Rock
The Invisible Enemy
Image Of The Fendahl
The Sun Makers
Underworld
The Invasion Of Time
Tom Baker is accompanied by Louise Jameson’s Leela in these tales, and we also get the introduction of K9 in there too. Plus, of course, Horror...

It’s Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary month, which calls for two things: celebration, and admin. Fittingly, here’s an administrative celebration of the BBC show, featuring every season/series that’s aired so far. After a six-tab Excel file and a lot of overthinking, it’s a big ol’ list arranging each of Doctor Who’s individual runs in reverse order of excellence.
(A note on methodology: this list does not include runs of Doctor Who specials or the TV movie, and Christmas specials are included under the entries for their relevant series.)
There’s good stuff everywhere in Doctor Who. Sometimes it can take a bit of digging to find it, but much of the time, you hardly even have to look – it’s just there, posing as the Commissioner from Sirius 4, or asking “Do I have the right?”. What follows is an attempt to arrange each season...

It’s not even November 25th and already we’re looking for Easter Eggs. Then again time has no meaning in a Remembered Tardis, the enigmatic location for Tales of the Tardis. What is Tales of the Tardis? I’m glad you asked. There are no stupid questions here, despite the best efforts of the comments section (I’m joking. Probably). Tales of the Tardis (I should probably put that on my clipboard now) is a new series of Doctor Who stories, edited to omnibus length with no episode breaks and bookended by appearances from characters connected to the stories. We went into more detail about it here.

If Doctor Who fans ever felt hard done by during any of the show’s previous big anniversaries then the 60th is here to soothe spirits, hand out cherished gifts, and generally make a bloody big hair-ruffling fuss of the lot of us.
First came news of David Tennant and Catherine Tate’s return in three anniversary specials, then came the ‘roughly 8 million episodes of Doctor Who are coming to BBC iPlayer on November 1’ announcement, then they brought back Doctor Who Confidential under a different name, and now…
…three Classic era Doctors are returning alongside eight former Doctor Who Companions (plus The Sarah Jane Adventures’ Clyde Langer) for new series Tales of the Tardis.
New Scenes, Classic Who Cast
Not a behind-the-scenes documentary, and not standalone adventures, the six-part series will pair up the stars of classic Who acting in new scenes together, in character, wrapped around episodes from six existing serials.

It’s a good time to be a Doctor Who fan. Over 800 episodes of the iconic sci-fi series will soon be available to watch on BBC iPlayer, and they’ll be joined by a brand-new Doctor Who spinoff series which will reunite classic Doctor Who duos, including classic Doctors and their companions.
Tales of the Tardis will span six-episodes, with each featuring a different duo, with brand new scenes woven together with classic episodes to create feature-length omnibus episodes. Reprising their roles for the Doctor Who spinoff series are; Maureen O’Brien as Vicki and Peter Purves as Steven, Frazer Hines as Jamie and Wendy Padbury as Zoe, Katy Manning as Jo and Daniel Anthony as Clyde, Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor and Janet Fielding as Tegan, Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor and Nicola Bryant as Peri, and Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace.

The best way to describe Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker's era of "Doctor Who" is "stuff happened." And in the centenary special "The Power of the Doctor," which served as Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor swan song, stuff certainly happened. Was any of that stuff emotionally, narratively, or thematically resonant? Well, that's another story.
Jodie Whittaker's run as the first female Doctor in "Doctor Who" history has been mired in clunky writing, nonsensical plots, half-realized characters, and empty spectacle — which on the surface, sounds par for the course for a show as silly and weird as "Doctor Who." But it's been missing the heart that made those kinds of quirks bearable, and as a result — despite some genuine bright spots through this four-year run — has felt like a chore to watch more than anything. And Whittaker's final episode as the Thirteenth Doctor certainly felt like a laundry list of fan...

Saying goodbye to Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor feels bittersweet. As the first female actor to play the Time Lord, she’s brought Doctor Who up to speed with modern times – but her tenure has often struggled to live up to its potential. That’s due less to her performance – lord knows, she’s been giving all she can – than the scripts the actor has been given. There’s been a renewed interest in the show with Russell T Davies, the brains behind the original reboot, taking back the showrunner reins for the next series.

Warning: Contains spoilers for the latest episode of “Doctor Who”
“Can somebody tell me what the hell is going on?” says incoming “Doctor Who” star Ncuti Gatwa in a trailer for next year’s series premiere. After seeing “The Power of the Doctor,” it would be hard to find any “Who” fan who doesn’t feel the same way.
Airing on the BBC on Sunday, “The Power of the Doctor” was advertised as a sendoff for the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whitaker, after four years in the role. But with the special also airing as part of the BBC’s 100th anniversary celebrations, it also was overloaded with cameos from past Doctors and companions.
As advertised, we got Sophie Aldred and Janet Fielding returning as 80s “Who” companions Ace and Tegan, but we also got cameos from four previous Doctors. Doctors No. Five through Eight — Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy...

In a Q&a session alongside a screening of “The Power of the Doctor,” departing showrunner Chris Chibnall discussed his desire to pack the episode full of easter eggs, layering in the past, present, and future of the long-running programme.
While the story itself may have been somewhat messy as a result – more on that in our spoiler-packed review – there’s no denying there’s a lot here for long-time Doctor Who fans to sink their teeth into, with some references being more obscure than others. There’ll be spoilers ahead as we dig in…

It's time to say goodbye to Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. With the approach of her final episode the BBC, the actress is getting fans hyped for the big farewell, and the new Doctor on the horizon.
"Doctor Who" regenerations are generally overwhelming events. As Whittaker explained to Entertainment Weekly, the theme of change was a strong driver in tomorrow's special, "The Power of the Doctor," which will be her last adventure in the Tardis:
"I think it's got something for everybody. It [is] a celebration of everything that makes the show what it is: Cybermen, Master, Daleks. But also, if you've never seen it before, it's the biggest advert of what the show is about. It celebrates change, the challenges the Doctor goes through, the darkness and the lightness. I think it certainly delves deep into the psyche of the Doctor. But then for me — as Jodie — it has...

When the return of companions Tegan Jovanka and Ace to Doctor Who was confirmed in the trailer at the end of ‘Legend of the Sea Devils’, a certain section of the show’s fandom – for want of a better term – lost its nut. Newer viewers less familiar with 1980s Doctor Who however, could be forgiven for feeling slightly mystified by this mass hysteria. So with that in mind, here’s a handy guide to what makes Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred’s characters such icons of the show.
Shaking Up the Tardis Status Quo
As if she had been plucked from an entirely different genre of television, much like Donna Noble would many years later, Australian flight attendant Tegan Jovanka shook up the Tardis status quo like never before. Given how integral a companion’s home life is to the modern era of Doctor Who, it’s of note that...

Jodie Whittaker doesn’t think Ncuti Gatwa needs any advice from her on becoming the next face of Doctor Who.
At the Q&a after the press screening for her final episode, ‘The Power of the Doctor’, held at the Curzon Bloomsbury in London on Tuesday 11th October, Whittaker was answering questions alongside co-stars Mandip Gill, Sacha Dhawan, and departing showrunner Chris Chibnall.
When asked by Q&a moderator Charlie Girling what her biggest piece of advice is for the next Doctor, Jodie Whittaker’s light-hearted reply was: ‘There’s no advice you can give. I’m certainly not giving that phenomenal actor any advice, he doesn’t need it from me!’ She added one very short-but-sweet encouragement to Gatwa: ‘It’s yours to own, and you’ve earned it.’
Asked to pinpoint what she would miss most about Doctor Who, Whittaker described the role as the most special time of her life.

The end is near for Jodie Whitaker’s run on “Doctor Who,” as the BBC announced that the Thirteenth Doctor’s final episode, “The Power of the Doctor,” will air on Oct. 23 as a new trailer was released.
As has been customary for “Doctor Who” since it was revived in 2005, the regeneration of the Doctor into a new face as the role is passed from one actor to another is coming with a massive adventure filled with all of the series’ most famous adversaries. We, of course, have the Doctor’s famous archrival, The Master (Sacha Dhawan) telling her that this is the day that she is “erased forever,” but we also have the Daleks and Cybermen menacing the universe as well.

The BBC has announced when Jodie Whittaker’s final Doctor Who episode will air.
Whittaker will step down as the Time Lord in the third of three specials that have been broadcast throughout 2022.
Titled “The Power of the Doctor”, the episode will air on Sunday 23 October.
It’s currently unknown whether the episode will introsduce Sex Education actor Ncuti Gatwa as the next Doctor.
Gatwa was confirmed to play the role earlier this year for a new series that is being overseen by returning showrunner Russell T Davies.
The full synopsis for Whittaker’s final adventure reads as follows: “Action-adventure in space and time for all the family, starring Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, John Bishop, Sophie Aldred, Janet Fielding and Sacha Dhawan. Welcome to the end of Thirteen’s existence. It’s time for the Doctor to do battle with the forces that mass against her, and their Master… The BBC has confirmed that Jodie Whittaker’s farewell adventure ‘The Power of the Doctor’ will air on Sunday the 23rd of October on BBC One.
That puts the Special exactly one year and one month away from Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary on the 23rd of November 2023, when former showrunner Russell T Davies will be back in the driving seat and is expected to introduce Ncuti Gatwa as the 14th Doctor (as well as reintroducing a host of welcome and familiar faces).
Thirteen is going out with a bang, by the looks of the latest trailer, which features regulars Mandip Gill, John Bishop and Jacob Anderson as Yaz, Dan and Vinder, alongside Jemma Redgrave as Unit’s Kate Stewart.

All good things must come to an end, and all Doctors must regenerate eventually. For Jodie Whittaker, who has embodied the iconic "Doctor Who" character for the past five years, that unavoidable ending is on the horizon. The actor's final bow in the role will take place this fall, when she says goodbye in the 90-minute special "The Power of the Doctor." Whittaker spoke to Empire Magazine about filming the final scene, and described the emotions that poured out right when it wrapped.
"I love the dialogue [showrunner Chris Chibnall] wrote for my regeneration," she told the outlet. "It captures my Doctor beautifully. It's simple, epic and beautiful." While her description of the scene only reveals that it features a long take, it's possible to surmise that it doesn't involve any tears from her character since, apparently, her own reaction came right after the filmmaker called cut. Jodie Whittaker has spent the last five years playing one of the most beloved characters in television history as the 13th incarnation of the Time Lord on "Doctor Who." Whittaker holds the distinction as the first woman to ever play The Doctor from planet Gallifrey, but will be saying goodbye in the upcoming 90-minute special "The Power Of The Doctor," which will also mark the end of showrunner Chris Chibnall's tenure. Whittaker's successor is "Sex Education" star Ncuti Gatwa, who will also make history as the first Black actor to play the titular role. The regeneration of a new Doctor is always an exciting passing of the Tardis, so to speak, but with the introduction of Gatwa coinciding with the series' 60th anniversary, "Doctor Who" is celebrating in a massive way.

When Jodie Whittaker regenerates during Doctor Who’s BBC Centenary special this autumn, we’ll be saying goodbye to one of the series’ most beloved and memorable incarnations of the infamous timelord.
The first ever female Doctor, Jodie was also voted the fans’ second favourite Doctor of all time in a 2020 Radio Times poll, but her reign hasn’t been without controversy. From debates on whether there should even be a female Doctor (spoiler alert: there should) to series 13 having three episodes cut due to the Covid-19 pandemic, plus the show’s producers defending lower-than-usual ratings, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for the Thirteenth Doctor.

We now finally know what the title of the upcoming "Doctor Who" centenary special is going to be. This episode, which is set to air in the fall, will serve as a goodbye to Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor, who made history as the first woman to take on the character in the show's long history. So, her final, feature-length special episode? It will be "The Power of the Doctor."
The news was revealed via the latest issue of "Doctor Who Magazine" (via Cultbox). The outlet also notes that the title brings to mind several previous episodes from the show's history, including "The Power of the Daleks" from 1966, which featured Patrick Troughton's Doctor, and 2012's The Power of Three, during Matt Smith's tenure as the Doctor. A brief synopsis for the episode has also surfaced, which reads as follows:

Jodie Whittaker is nearing the end of her journey at the 13th Doctor, and the teaser for her final episode promises the return of some familiar faces to send her off.
The BBC (the show airs on BBC America in the U.S.) released the first look at Whittaker’s final episode, which also happens to be the feature-length Centenary Special, on Sunday. You can watch the teaser above.
“This is the day you die,” Sacha Dhawan’s Master tells Whittaker’s Doctor. While the clip gives away few details about the actual plot of the final episode, Master appears to be just one of several villains that the Doctor will face.
Daleks and even Cybermen are also on hand in the clip. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that two classic companions are back to help the Doctor face off against her foes.

So “Legend of the Sea Devils” was a serviceable, fairly by-the-numbers, classic-monster-meets-celebrity historical story that didn’t hit any truly spectacular highs or lows, but which will surely be hotly debated in the comments anyway.
The biggest reveal of the episode was in the 30-second clip before the end credits. Yes, the next episode will show us the Thirteenth Doctor regenerate into the Fourteenth, we know. And in this story she’ll be facing the Master, the Daleks, and the Cybermen which, of course she is. Who doesn’t want to bring all the big stops out for the final bash?
We expected all of these reveals…except the one that truly blew us away: the Thirteenth Doctor’s final story will feature the return of Classic Who companions Ace and Tegan Jovanka, once again played by Sophie Aldred and Janet Fielding, respectively. It is the biggest special guest appearance...

Jodie Whittaker's turn as the Thirteenth Doctor will conclude in epic fashion.
BBC America shared a trailer for the forthcoming final episode featuring Whittaker, and it also teases some big returns.
The clip teases the characters going to war with the Daleks, Cybermen, and the Master.
We also get confirmation that Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred, who appeared on the series back in the '80s, will both be back for the milestone episode.
Whittaker confirmed last summer that her run as the Doctor would conclude.
“My heart is so full of love for this show, for the team who make it, for the fans who watch it and for what it has brought to my life,” Whittaker said in a statement at the time.
“I cannot thank Chris enough for entrusting me with his incredible stories."

Two iconic Doctor Who companions will return to bid farewell to Jodie Whittaker‘s 13th Doctor, who will depart the Tardis later this year. As revealed in a trailer (watch below) that followed the show’s Easter special, former companions Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding) and Ace (Sophie Aldred) are set to feature in Whittaker’s final episode. The clip also teased the return of the Doctor’s long-time nemesis, The Master (Sacha Dhawan), and her most fearsome foes, the Daleks and the Cybermen. Fielding played Tegan on the hit sci-fi series between 1981 and 1984; she was the companion to Tom Baker and Peter Davison’s Doctors. An Australian airline stewardess, Tegan was known for being stubborn, loud, and direct, with a no-nonsense attitude and not afraid to speak her mind. This will mark her first appearance on the show in almost 40 years. “In some ways, it was a very different experience...

When the 13th Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, departs the Tardis later this year, she will be joined for a final adventure by some familiar faces from the long-running series.
Two former Doctor’s companions will be appearing, Tegan Jovanka and Ace, played by Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred respectively.
Fielding appeared on the BBC show between 1981 and 1984. She says of her return, “In some ways it was a very different experience to what it was like when I finished recording in 1983, but in many ways it was very similar. It was so lovely to be a working member of the Doctor Who family again.”
Sophie Aldred starred in the sci-fi drama from 1987 to 1989 and says, “It’s been quite a challenge to have such a big secret to keep, even from my family, and I couldn’t be more thrilled and excited to have been asked back. I hope everyone enjoys...

Despite recurring criticism for some areas of the Doctor Who fandom, current showrunner Chris Chibnall looks set to continue for at least another season, due to be released in 2021. One of the most striking features of season 12 of the show has been Chibnall turning away from the more standalone approach of season 11, and embracing characters from the history of the series. And now, he’s revealed which existing characters from Doctor Who canon he’d like to bring back to play along Jodie Whittaker.
Speaking as part of an interview with BBC America, Chibnall gave his choices for which much-loved characters would work well in contemporary Who, saying:
“I would really love to bring back Sarah Jane. People working on the show now worked with Lis Sladen, and everybody still remembers her so fondly and talks about her a lot. I would love to see her with the Thirteenth Doctor.

Fathom Events and BBC Studios have come together to put one of Doctor Who‘s most classic stories on the big screen for the first time ever.
We are, of course, talking about 1981’s “Logopolis,” which is historic in the annals of Whovian history for being the final story of legendary Time Lord Tom Baker, who portrayed the Fourth Doctor for a whopping seven years before he passed the key to the Tardis onto Fifth Doctor Peter Davison in this adventure.
Tickets are on sale now for the one-night only event that takes place on March 13th. This “one-of-a-kind” screening, as Fathom’s official website puts it, features the original four-part story edited into a 100-minute movie. As well as the story itself, the screening will also feature a special, brand new interview with Baker and companions Janet Fielding (Tegan) and Sarah Sutton (Nyssa).

The current Tardis team consists of the fantastic four – Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor and her pals Graham (Bradley Walsh), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Yaz (Mandip Gill). They have great chemistry together, but having to juggle four leads has proven to be a bit of an issue over the course of Doctor Who season 11, which just wrapped this evening with an underwhelming finale.
This is an age-old problem for the show, though. Back in the early 1980s, the Fifth Doctor was also accompanied by three companions – Australian air hostess Tegan (Janet Fielding), alien teen prodigy Adric (Matthew Waterhouse) and gentle, smart Nyssa (Sarah Sutton). The foursome’s adventures have now been re-released on Blu-Ray and one of the special features sees Peter Davison laying bare his feelings about his era of Doctor Who.
Among other things, the actor revealed that he thinks having four characters in the Tardis makes the time machine too crowded.

For a very long time, Tom Baker was the iconic Doctor. With his striking scarf, twinkling eyes and anti-authoritarian demeanor, the Fourth Doctor has gone on to influence the character more than almost any other. The Doctor Who revival series can’t seem to resist referencing him, either, whether it be folks donning his iconic scarf, references to Jelly Babies or simply having him pop up as the mysterious Curator in the 50th anniversary special.
Despite this love, fans have been waiting a pretty damn long time to see Tom Baker’s final season – season 18 – hit Blu-ray. Broadcast from August 30th, 1980 to March 21st, 1981, it’s an especially interesting season because it marks a transition period for the series as it switched showrunners from Graham Williams to John Nathan-Turner, thus setting the tone of the show from then until its cancellation in the late 80s.

Isn't it time the Doctor and Clara welcomed another companion on board the Tardis in Doctor Who series 9? Mark has a few ideas as to who...

This will make Clara the Doctor's longest-serving companion since the new series began and, indeed, since Janet Fielding's similarly on-off Tegan, back when Peter Davison was the Doctor.
Like Tegan, Clara's had a couple of near-miss exits during her travels already - first, the bittersweet ending of Death In Heaven and the fake-out at the end of Last Christmas. In both cases, she and the Doctor got a reprieve from Nick Frost's Santa, in such a way that when she does eventually leave, we'll all be looking for him to pop out...

The Doctor Who series 8 disc release features a wealth of bonus material including the terrific Earth Conquest doc. Here's Pete's verdict...
If you’re reading this review, then there’s a good chance that you’ve both seen the twelve episodes that make up Peter Capaldi’s debut series and know exactly what we’re going to say about them. Series 8 of Doctor Who has been hailed by many as the best in several years, and one of the best since the show’s revival in 2005. It’s a verdict that we here at Den of Geek find it hard to argue with, frankly. From the light-hearted opener Deep Breath to the action-packed and slightly bonkers finale Death In Heaven, with thought-provoking episodes like Listen and Kill The Moon along the way, Series 8 has been a confident start to a brand new era for the world’s longest-running sci-fi programme.

Regular followers are probably aware that we here are at Sound on Sight are more than a little fond of an obscure British science fiction program that celebrated an anniversary of some kind last weekend. Anniversaries are always an excellent time to reflect upon and celebrate a show’s history and the lead up to last Saturday’s “The Day of the Doctor” saw the entire Whoniverse coming together to share their thoughts on everything from their favourite episodes, most beloved eras, and of course, “their” Doctor. I just love that a top ten list can be the beginning of a good conversation or a great fight, and I find that the most heat, and some of the best light, is generated when Whovians start talking about their favourite Companions. A Companion is more than just our surrogate, they’re a gateway and guide to the series who helps us...

While we didn't see the Fifth, Sixth or Seventh Doctors in the flesh during The Day of the Doctor there's a possibility that they might still have featured somewhere. It's possible that, on set, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy refused to let Zygons be Zygons.
As with much of the anniversary programming, once you're done with being merely incredibly entertained by the Pythonesque brilliance and sequences involving K9 and Lisa Bowerman haunting Steven Moffat's dreams, you can then embark on a game of 'Spot the Reference'. I don’t know about you, but my television was tuned to Doctor Who all weekend. From marathons to specials, I thoroughly enjoyed the build up to the 50th anniversary special episode, The Day of the Doctor, that aired on Saturday.
While it was pretty widely understood that not all the doctors would be appearing in the episode we did hear rumors that some of the classics were kicking up a stink about not getting the call to join in the episode and you can see how that all worked out in the short film, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

Classic Who had more than its fair share of really, really weird moments. Jeff picks 10 of the most bizarre...
There’s barely a second to waste in television today; most shows pack plot threads into running times more tightly than sardines. But back in the days of Classic Doctor Who, there was room for a story to breathe – admittedly, sometimes too much room. Spanning from the 60s to the 80s, when a televised shot could last longer than five seconds, Classic Who had its fair share of strange asides and mind-altering trips…
Ancient skull space-out (Image of The Fendhal – Part 1)
In two minutes of today’s Doctor Who, a lot of plot can happen, and frequently does. You’d never get something like the sequence that runs part way through Image of the Fendahl’s first episode, when Thea Ransome (Wanda Ventham) forms a...

Actor/Dalek operator @NicholasPegg dug this up from 1981:
Did you notice it? Up in the top right corner:
It reads:
The Changing Face Of Doctor Who
The new Doctor is 29 year old Peter Davison, most famous for his role as Tristan in the BBC television programme, All Creatures Great and Small. He has done a variety of stage and television work but also lists songwriting amongst his talents and has a television theme tune to his name!
The youngest Doctor to date has also a new companion — twenty-three year old Janet Fielding who will play the part of Tegan, an air hostess from Australia in the last story of the season — Logopolis.
Pegg says this is from Doctor Who Magazine, though I wonder about that. But whatever publication this is from, some “controversy” over K-9 was considered more important than the new Doctor. He doesn’t even warrant a photo!

Yep, it's true. After much speculation, BBC has finally named Number Twelve. Peter Capaldi will take over as as the Doctor from Matt Smith, who will depart the role in this year’s Christmas Special. At BuzzFeed, you can read my latest post, "Peter Capaldi Named As The New Star Of Doctor Who," about the casting of Peter Capaldi as Number Twelve. The Tardis is getting a new inhabitant in the form of 55-year-old veteran actor Peter Capaldi. After weeks of speculation (and much interest from London bookies), BBC finally announced on Sunday just who will be taking over as the Time Lord at the center of long-running British science fiction drama Doctor Who once current series star Matt Smith leaves in December’s Christmas Special. “The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the Tardis,” executive producer and head writer Steven Moffat...

The news Doctor Who fans have waited for has finally arrived. The 12th Doctor has been announced. It’s Peter Capaldi.
Ever since the popular Matt Smith, who plays the eleventh incarnation of the mysterious and heroic Doctor on Doctor Who, announced that he was leaving the long-running BBC series, there has been non-stop speculation about who would replace him. Odds-makers had been endlessly calculating which actor (or actress) had the best odds of taking on the mantle of the new Doctor. Bookmakers had been taking bets.
The announcement was finally made during a special live show on BBC One. Accompanied by former series star Peter Davison who played the fifth Doctor, and Bernard Cribbins, who played Wilf, Peter Capaldi made his debut to huge applause. Matt Smith and the program’s show-runner/Executive Producer Stephen Moffat, gave pre-recorded interviews, teasing at the new Doctor’s identity. There were also...
