Charlize Theron is all smiles over her E! People's Choice Awards nomination! At the press junket for her upcoming film, The Addams Family, out Oct. 11, E! News asked how she felt about her film Long Shot getting a PCAs nomination for The Comedy Movie of 2019. The star beamed and gushed that, "Seriously, making that film was one of my greatest experiences. I love every single human that was on that movie." The movie stars Theron as Charlotte Field, a woman running for President who hires a journalist (played hilariously by Seth Rogen) to serve as her speech writer, even though he is a total mess. "I'm so proud of the film that we made, and for anybody who...

A winning romantic comedy can provide a jolt of happiness unlike almost any other cinematic offering. There’s something about seeing characters you root for overcome the odds that just pleases you in a substantial way. Throw in some good laughs and these are far more than just staples of date nights. Long Shot, the raunchy new romantic comedy, is a cut above. This rom com doesn’t skimp on either aspect. With two impeccable lead performances, some great supporting turns, and a witty script, this is destined to delight audiences for years to come. It’s almost impossible to resist this flick once it finds its groove. The movie is a romantic comedy, with the added bonus of having a satirical political bent to it. The story centers on Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) and Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron). The former is an investigative journalist who quits his job when...

Chicago – “Long Shot” is a bit of a hybrid that can’t quite decide what it wants to be. Is it a political satire, or is it another in a long line of Seth Rogen stoner comedies with a little rom com thrown in for good measure? It’s a little of both, with the shaggy dog stoner comedy the dominant form … making it a somewhat jarring and incongruous fit with the more political elements of this comedy.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
Charlize Theron is Secretary of State Charlotte Field, who is planning her own run for the White House. Fred (Rogen) is a journalist for a “Vice” kind of news operation who quits his job when the site is bought by a conservative media mogul. He’s hired by Charlotte to help punch up her speeches to humanize her and raise her likability scores. But they also have a personal history, since...

The year ahead of any presidential election always comes with a middling political satire stumbling toward zeitgeist. Remember Swing Vote? Probably not.
This preamble year’s attempt, Jonathan Levine’s Long Shot, also blends that recurring genre with one that feels as periodically common these days - it’s also romantic comedy. Here Charlize Theron plays Charlotte Field, Secretary of State to an incompetent but popular president not seeking a second term, with her chances at launching a presidential run hingeing on the success of her new global green initiative. Her romantic foil comes with Seth Rogen’s Fred Flarsky, a journalist brought aboard as Charlotte’s speechwriter to help boost her approval ratings.
But it’s not just Fred’s witty journalistic approach that helps Charlotte reveal her authenticity to the masses, it’s the boyish crush he’s had for her since she was his teenage babysitter.

Lionsgate has entered a first-look film and television deal with helmer Jonathan Levine, director of the Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron-led romantic comedy, Long Shot, which will hit theaters this weekend. Under the deal, Levine and his partner Gillian Bohrer will base their new production company Megamix at the studio.
The film, which picked up the Audience Award at SXSW, follows shlub reporter Flarsky as he becomes reacquainted with his first crush, Charlotte Field, who as the Secretary of State is now being groomed to run for President. She taps Flarsky to write her speeches, but they get serious.
This deal extends the long-standing relationship between Levine and Lionsgate as well as its current Motion Picture Group executive team run by Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake. The group first collaborated on 2011 Golden Globe-nominated film, 50/50, starring Rogen and Joseph Gordon Levitt. The studio also released Levine’s films, The Night Before,...

The romantic-comedy director’s main job is to create a story so charming that it convinces viewers to suspend reality, to make them cast away logic, be dazzled and let themselves fall in love with love.
“Notting Hill” had to make us believe a world-famous actress would just randomly show up in a cozy London neighborhood and fall in love with the owner of a travel bookstore. Definitely unrealistic and yet we allow ourselves to fall in love with it. And in “Long Shot,” director Jonathan Levine (“Snatched”) must convince us that Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen), a left-leaning and unemployed journalist who lives in tapered pants, a baseball cap and windbreaker, could capture the heart of a smart, powerful, successful woman like U.S. Secretary of State Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron).

In what world would stunning Charlize Theron and schlubby Seth Rogen hook up? The loaded-with-laughs Long Shot offers a comically absurd and sweetly touching answer to that rude question. Theron plays Charlotte Field, the Secretary of State who has her eye on the White House. The “dumb fuck” President of the United States — no, it’s not whatshisname — is played by a delicious Bob Odenkirk as a chief executive who wants to trade his role as leader of the free world for a career in movies. Field needs the idiot president’s endorsement.

Charlize Theron isn’t a fan of most romantic comedies.
The 43-year-old actress opened up about struggling with the message most romantic comedies give audiences during an interview with the Press Association via the Irish Examiner.
“I struggle with that sometimes in romantic comedies, I feel like I’m the only loser who has never experienced the third act of most romantic comedy and it just makes me feel very bitter,” she said jokingly as her costar Seth Rogen laughed alongside her.

"Bringing someone like Fred onto the team is a little reckless." Lionsgate has debuted a quick new trailer for the comedy Long Shot, from director Jonathan Levine, opening in theaters in just a few weeks. Seth Rogen reteams with Levine (after both 50/50 and The Night Before) chasing after an entirely unattainable presidential candidate, played by Charlize Theron. Flarsky, an unemployed journalist battered by his own misfortune, attempts to pursue Charlotte Field, his childhood crush and babysitter who has become one of the most powerful and unreachable women on the planet. The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård, June Diane Raphael, Andy Serkis, Randall Park, O'Shea Jackson Jr., James Saito, Ravi Patel, and Gabrielle Graham. This isn't the best trailer (the first one still rocks) but it's some extra footage to remind everyone that this comedy is hitting theaters in the first week of May. I’ve been hearing a lot of great things about this upcoming Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen comedy called Long Shot. While it seems like these two actors might make an odd pairing for a movie, it seems to work out great and it looks like they have a fun comedic chemistry with each other.

It seems like each year a movie at South by Southwest, specifically a comedic one, seems to connect with the audience and launch to great success. Previous years have seen things like Blockers, The Disaster Artist, and Trainwreck showcase their wares to rave early word. Just like the initial reviews for Us can launch that to financial success and potential awards season love, strong notices here for comedies can lead to tremendous roads ahead (The Disaster Artist even became an Academy Award nominee). This year, we have Long Shot. Though it doesn’t sound like an Oscar flick, it does sound like most at SXSW are of the opinion that it’s a hit in the making and the funniest effort of 2019 to date. The film is a romantic comedy about an unlikely pairing. The plot synopsis, courtesy of IMDb: “Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) is a gifted and free-spirited...

South by Southwest has a storied tradition of launching studio comedies into the box-office stratosphere—from “Knocked Up” to “Bridesmaids,” “Trainwreck” and “Spy.” On Saturday night, SXSW 2019 most likely found the next underdog hit to add to this esteemed class.
“Long Shot” is the story of a secretary of state, Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron), who plans to launch a presidential campaign, but she needs a speechwriter to show off her less serious side. Rather than choosing someone experienced, she hires the boy that she used to babysit (Seth Rogen), who until recently had worked as an investigative journalist at a Brooklyn newspaper. “Long Shot” plays like “Veep” and had a baby with “Notting Hill,” and it quickly won over the Austin crowd. That’s encouraging news for Lionsgate, the studio distributing “Long Shot,” which will release the movie into theaters on May 3.

Seth Rogen’s rambunctious brand of self-deprecation tends to dictate the tone of the many raunchy studio comedies he’s appeared in over the last decade, but “Long Shot” finally provides a co-star who can match that dopey charm. In director Jonathan Levine’s frisky romantic comedy, Charlize Theron’s workaholic Secretary of State exudes power and intimidation with her every move, putting Rogen’s overbearing journalist-turned-speechwriter in his place even as they fall in love; in the process, she injects this formulaic movie with fresh bite.
A romcom fantasy that funnels aspects of “Notting Hill” and “Dave” through a raunchy filter, “Long Shot” turns its endearing couple into a savvy vessel for exploring America’s fractured times. As Rogen’s shaggy humor finds its match in Theron’s domineering energy, “Long Shot” is overlong and rough around the edges, but its imperfections speak to an endearing knack for the messiness of modern times.

What if the woman who had been your babysitter when you were 13 years old went on to become secretary of state, and was now positioned to be the first female president of the United States? If you were Fred Flarsky, this would be your carpe diem opportunity — the right time to go after that unrequited childhood crush (played here by Charlize Theron) and make her yours.
That’s pretty much the premise of Jonathan Levine’s “Long Shot,” a retrograde romantic comedy that somehow manages to pass the public’s #MeToo test at this precise moment — judging by the raucous audience enthusiasm at its SXSW Film Festival premiere — but is bound to embarrass everyone a year or so down the road, once the think pieces have picked it apart. More creepy than romantic, more chauvinist than empowered — and in all fairness, funnier and more entertaining than any comedy in months...

“I didn’t want to talk I’m too drunk,” said director Jonathan Levine after the screening of the world premiere of his film Long Shot on Saturday at SXSW. Levine, who was joined on the stage by stars Charlize Theron, Seth Rogen, O’Shea Jackson, June Diane Raphael and Ravi Patel, admitted that he was nervous that no one was going to like the comedy, which follows an unlikely romance between a by-the-book, influential politician (Theron) and her super-progressive speechwriter (Rogen).

“It’s Pretty Woman, except she’s Richard Gere and you’re Julia Roberts,” O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s best friend character tells Seth Rogen’s Fred Flarsky on his romance prospects with Charlize Theron’s presidential candidate in Lionsgate/Summit’s Long Shot.
The screwball comedy, directed by Jonathan Levine and written by Liz Hannah and Dan Sterling follows shlub reporter Flarsky as he becomes reacquainted with his first crush, Charlotte Field, who as the Secretary of State is now being groomed to run for President. She taps Flarsky to write her speeches, but they get serious. Outside of Crazy Rich Asians, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a romantic comedy on screen.
Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver’s Point Grey Pictures produces. Theron also produces alongside Good Universe.

"We have a situation..." Lionsgate has debuted the first official trailer for the summer comedy Long Shot, formerly known as Flarsky, the latest film from director Jonathan Levine. Seth Rogen reteams with Levine (after 50/50 and The Night Before) and goes after an entirely unattainable woman, played by Charlize Theron. Fred Flarsky, an unemployed journalist battered by his own misfortune, endeavors to pursue Charlotte Field, his childhood crush and babysitter who now happens to be one of the most powerful and unattainable women on the planet - she's the current Us Secretary of State planning to run for President. The supporting cast includes Alexander Skarsgård, June Diane Raphael, Andy Serkis, Randall Park, O'Shea Jackson Jr., James Saito, Ravi Patel, and Gabrielle Graham. This looks kind of funny, and very relevant to the times in a clever, amusing way. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jonathan Levin's Long Shot, direct from...

The 2019 summer movie season is going to once again be dominated by superheroes (“Avengers: Endgame”), family blockbusters (“Toy Story 4”), and studio tentpoles (“The Lion King”), but when it comes to counter-programming it’s probably a good idea to place your bets on Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron delivering a comedy hit. The two stars are teaming up for the romantic-comedy “Long Shot,” co-written and directed by Rogen’s “50/50” director Jonathan Levine.
“Long Shot” stars Theron as Charlotte Field, the U.S. Secretary of State who decides to run for president herself after getting a glowing recommendation from Potus (Bob Odenkirk). Field seeks out speech writing help from Fred Flarsky (Rogen), who she used to babysit when the two were younger. As the two start spending more time together on the campaign trail, unexpected sparks begin to fly.

Thanks to strong test screenings, Lionsgate is moving its Seth Rogen-Charlize Theron comedy “Flarsky” to back four months to the summer season. It will now premiere on June 7, 2019.
Studio executives are feeling bullish about the film after recent audience test screenings gave it scores above 95% — indicating that “Flarsky” can perform as a major summer comedy. “Ocean’s 8” launched on the same weekend this year with $41.7 million and is on its way to a solid $138 million domestically.
“Flarsky” had been set to open Feb. 8. Rogen stars as Fred Flarsky, a down on his luck journalist, who through a string of comedic circumstances catches the attention of the world’s most powerful woman, Charlotte Field, (Theron). Much to the chagrin of her handlers, he becomes an important part of her inner circle in her globe-trotting journey to become the first female president of the United States.
