Warner Bros took the stage at CineEurope here in Barcelona this evening, touting its upcoming slate ahead of a screening of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis which begins rolling out this week.
In his remarks, Andrew Cripps, the studio’s President of International Theatrical Distribution, put particular emphasis on collaboration with exhibition being a key element to the business. “We made it through together,” Cripps said, referring to the pandemic, and he noted the rebound in box office with great results from PLFs, telling exhibitors that it was encouraging to see increased investments in upgrading cinemas to enhance the shared experience of moviegoing. “Nothing can replicate it, and nothing can replace it,” he enthused.
Cripps further added that one of the few good things to come out of the past few years has been “the level of cooperation” across the aisles. Working together has been a “win-win” and he encouraged exhibition...

Four elderly gentlemen form The Chowder Society, a group in which they meet up to smoke cigars and tell chilling ghost stories in an attempt to scare each other. Hiding from a dark secret of their past, they use their stories to push it from their memories. When one of the member’s sons dies in strange circumstances though, it seems that their past transgressions have come back to haunt them in a soul that refuses to let go of her vengeance.
Ghost Story is based on Peter Straub’s novel, and we get to hear plenty from the author on this Blu-ray release. This gives a good insight into an eighties movie that feels very original.

It is fair to say that Charles Band makes some interesting movies, most of them B-movies with a cult charm. As fans we love them for this very fact, whether it’s the brave move to just go for the fun instead of high quality drama, or sometimes and often more rarely actually being a surprisingly good movie. 88 Films are releasing one of these on Blu-ray in the form of Trancers, a movie that borrows a lot from Bladerunner but adds a time travelling concept that for its time was quite smart.
Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) was a Trancer hunter, until the day he decided to walk away from the job. When Whistler (Michael Stefani) travels back in time though...
