Bad news, Panthers. HBO Max's announced revival of "Degrassi," the long-running and much-beloved Canadian teen series, is no longer happening. HBO Max confirmed to Popsugar that "Degrassi" will not debut on the service. The Wall Street Journal broke the news in a Nov. 2 report.
The since-canceled series was announced back in January with "The Bold Type"'s Lara Azzopardi and "Riverdale"'s Julia Cohen both signed on as showrunners and executive producers. It was also known that filming was scheduled to take place in Toronto this past summer, though it's unclear if that ever occurred. WildBrain, which owns the Degrassi franchise, was on board to produce the remake, which got a 10-episode order from HBO Max.

The reboot of Degrassi will not be moving forward at HBO Max.
A new report from Wall Street Journal on Thursday revealed that the highly anticipated reboot had been shelved.
Warner Bros. Discovery has been in cost-cutting mode since the merger earlier this year.
Many projects have been canceled entirely before broadcast, including the Batgirl movie.
The company has been restructuring in its attempts to save money, and youth programming has largely been shut out.
While it sounds like the decision to end Degrassi was made a while ago, this is the first we've heard of it.
The series was ordered back in January.
Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen are set as showrunners and executive producers of the latest offshoot.
Production was slated for the summer.

Digital Spy reports that DreamWorks Animation has purchased Classic Media for approximately $155 million, giving the studio rights to hundreds of classic television and film characters.
Classic Media was founded by Eric Ellenbogen and John Engelman in 2000. The company was founded with the goal of acquiring forgotten and poorly promoted characters and though they have been purchased by DreamWorks, Engelman and Ellenbogen will stay on and run the studio’s classic division.
The list of characters coming to DreamWorks through this deal is phenomenal, to say the least. Just to name a few, they now have rights to Archie, Casper, Dick Tracy, Frosty, Godzilla, He-Man, Lassie, Rudolph, and Where’s Waldo. The full list can be viewed at the Classic Media website.
The potential here is huge. DreamWorks profits will increase from the newly gained rights to existing films and TV shows, but what is really exciting is the possible movies that they can now produce.

There are dozens of pop culture references that could be used to start this story.
We could go with a Fat Albert-esque question: “Hey, hey, hey… guess who just bought a huge portfolio of classic kids’ titles?”
And answer it He-Man and She-Ra style: “DreamWorks Animation… has… The Power!”
Or there’s the Lassie route: “What’s that, girl…? A company called Classic Media found a bunch of family entertainment characters down in a well? And now they’ve all been scooped up by Jeffrey Katzenberg?”

After a tumultuous pre-production, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films revealed today that filming is underway on the new big screen version of The Lone Ranger. Disney's biggest gamble of 2013, Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger, has officially gone into production. There was a point I didn't think this movie would actually happen, but here it is. Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer will lead the pack of actors into the wild west.
The reason I say this movie is a gamble is because Disney is spending $216 million dollars to make the movie, and no Western in the history of cinema has ever made that much money. The highest grossing western of all time is Dances With Wolves, and that only brought in $184 million. I can't believe Disney is pumping this kind of money into a western, because I don't think it's going to make that kind of money back in theaters. Hell, Favreau's Cowboy & Aliens only made a little over $100 million and that mixed both sci-fi and western elements! That should have been a blockbuster, and it wasn't.

In celebration of Postman Pat's 30th birthday, it's been announced that there will be a CG animated 3D movie made based on the 1980's British stop-motion animated kids TV series. I have never seen this series, but then I didn't grow up in the UK.
The movie will be called Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You're the One. "The film finds Pat, everyone's favorite postman, coming face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition that threatens to tear him away from his hometown of Greendale and the friends he loves. Pat is set to find out as he falls for the age old temptation of the grass being greener..."
