Ricardo Delgado ("The Matrix: Reloaded") is a professional concept and storyboard artist, who has worked numerous big-budget Hollywood films. He recently designed storyboards for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which he posted on his website. They reveal a slightly different origin story for Splinter and the Turtles than what appeared in the film. As you can see in the storyboards below, Splinter actually becomes interested in martial arts from watching television while in Sach's laboratory. In the theatrical cut, Splinter comes across a book in the sewers on the art of Ninjutsu. He studied it and then trained the Turtles. What did you think of the new origin story? The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast...

The Sentinels are some of the worst foes in X-Men history, dogging the characters since their origins in 1965. But the movies were slow to incorporate the metal baddies given their cost, and only now have we seen them in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. However, director Bryan Singer had long planned to incorporate them into the films, even figuring out how they would fit into X2: X-Men United. Guy Hendrix Dyas and Ricardo Delgado were tasked with coming up with Sentinel conceptual designs, and they've revealed those to FilmSketchr. You can catch your first glimpse of what these villains were meant to look like, before Bryan Singer and Fox decided that the extra $8 million required to visualize these robots for X2 was just too rich for anyone's blood. Much like the designs in the current film, these versions of the characters have a circular inner motor. But while the current...

The biggest disappointment (aside from X3) in the entirety of the X-Men movie series up until this summer has been the lack of Sentinels. These giant, mutant-hunting robots have been fan favorites in the comics, but no one ever bothered putting them in a movie until Days of Future Past. Yes, after nearly a decade and a half of waiting, we finally got Sentinels on the big screen. It was glorious. However, Days isn’t the first time Fox flirted with bringing the beastly bots into the franchise. An early draft of X2: X-Men United featured the characters, and concept art was commissioned before the whole idea was scrapped. Artists Ricardo Delgado and Guy Hendrix Dyas turned in their visions of the terrifying robots – and the reaction was at least a little underwhelming...

The designs above and below were created by Ricardo Delgado and Guy Hendrix Dyas. "The Sentinels were considered briefly for the X-Men sequel, and I drew up a version to a great collective yawn from everyone involved." said Ricardo Delgado. As you can tell, the models we could have seen in X2 vary greatly when compared to what we saw in Days of Future Past. The sentinels here are much more clunky and robotic, while the models we saw in Dofp are slick and thin. Around the time of X2's release, Bryan Singer, the director of X-Men, X2, and Days of Future Past, told TotalFilm that "We felt, for X2, the concept of giant robots is a difficult sell. But it's definitely something we may have room for in the future.". Simon Kinberg told If Magazine "There never was a Sentinel script that veered away from the story we ended up with.

On May 11, the Godzilla: All Art Attack show opened at the Creature Features gallery in Burbank, California. And amid the pieces, which included an ad for a fake Godzilla-themed breakfast cereal and another depicting Godzilla as the Virgin Mary (er, okay), were three pieces instantly recognizable to any Godzilla archeologist. They are subtle and easy to overlook: three smallish sketches of a sleeker, more naturalistic version of the monster, etched in black and white by Eisner-winning comic-book artist Ricardo Delgado. What makes these sketches so special is that they were produced for a version of Godzilla that never saw the light of day. It did, however, get really, really close to happening.By the early '90s, the Japanese Godzilla films weren't performing like they should have been, and Toho, the studio behind the creature, thought that an American production might inject some fresh blood into the ailing franchise. An...

Ricardo Delgado is a veteran artist, working on major motion pictures and television shows since the early 90's. Below you will find two set of storyboards that he created for Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The first set is of a scene that was never filmed, but it would've involved Liev Schreiber's Victor Creed (Sabretooth) quickly snuffing out the life of a wolverine. And when I say wolverine, I mean the animal, not Hugh Jackman's character. The second set is actually even more interesting, as it involves Wolverine and the Hindenberg disaster. The storyboards were merely created for a possible Word War II marketing idea, but those plans were abandoned. Ricardo describes them as, "I still don't know why I did these storyboards. I had just been hired and before starting on the actual movie a few of us storyboarders were asked to do historical boards for 'marketing purposes'.

Discovery’s four-part Dinosaur Revolution (premiering Sept. 4 and Sept. 11) is a new kind of dinosaur documentary. Produced by award-winning filmmaker Erik Nelson (Cave of Forgotten Dreams, Grizzly Man), the visual look was created by renowned dinosaur artists with graphic novel and feature film backgrounds including Dave Krentz (Disney’s Dinosaur, John Carter), Ricardo Delgado (Dark Horse Comics’ Age of Reptiles), Iain McCaig (Star Wars Ep. I, II, III) and Pete Von Sholly (The Mask, Darkman). Behaviors, including exotic mating dances (Gigantoraptor, a dinosaur resembling a 17-foot tall turkey) and the underwater birthing of a huge marine reptile called Mosasaurus, are explored in vignettes.

Happy New Year, Internet, and welcome to the first 2010 edition of This Week in Comics, where every day is a comic book, but you can’t read them with the corresponding days because they all come out on Wednesday. Oops. To remind you what each day means, I’ve thrown in several subtitles for each day. Because I love you.
Since I ended last year’s edition with a quick “best of the year” list, I feel like I could make some wild prognostications about comics this year.
Dark Horse Comics will continue to live up to its name by publishing proper good comics that I like. This will prove doubly true if The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys comes out this year.
Ditto Image Comics, especially if Casanova returns this year.
With the conclusion of “Siege,” the Marvel Comics universe will see an end to “Dark Reign” and...

Readers, I apologize on behalf of comics this week. Not a whole lot of good new stuff (save Forgetless) is coming out this week, so my selections for this week’s installment were a struggle. To make matters worse, this will be the last installment of the year because I’ll soon be on vacation and I don’t want to have to do sh*t when I’m supposed to be loungin’.
Don’t worry, I’m mean to return from vacation on January 3rd. So expect more opinionated rambling then.
Since this column is more pessimistic than usual, here are the things I liked this year.
Best New Series: Chew, featuring a totally bizarre premise that no TV network would touch. Let’s wait for Cinemax to prove me wrong.
Best Collected Edition: Final Crisis hardcover by Grant Morrison, J.G. Jones, Doug Mahnke & Others. Morrison uses the good vs.
