As we prepare for David Bruckner’s new take on Clive Barker‘s iconic text Hellraiser, what better time to re-evaluate the state of the franchise up to this point?
Even a cursory glance at the ten existing Hellraiser films reveals that not all Cenobite films are made equal. And while the top film is a given, what about the other slots?
Here are my definitive rankings…
10 – Hellraiser: Revelations (2011)
Like many major horror series in the 2000s and beyond, Hellraiser properties were driven by rights issues. Revelations suffers as a result. Dimension Films needed to release a new film or else they would lose the rights, so Revelations was rushed into production and made on the cheap.
Fans of the franchise decried the loss of Doug Bradley, who for the first time refused to reprise his role as Pinhead (let’s be honest: replacement Stephan Smith Collins never stood a chance). Still,...

Timothy Day, who was a best boy grip on Grey’s Anatomy for over 10 years, filed a lawsuit Friday in L.A. Superior Court against ABC Studios and Disney-abc International Television alleging he was dismissed for complaining about “a pattern of pervasive gender discrimination and harassment perpetrated” by the show’s longtime director of photography. We’re up to sequel number seven now and I got very nervous when I read that this one and the next movie were practically done at the same time. Watching this movie, I wish they had kept the formula they used for “Inferno” and “Deader” as this one left me thinking this was a missed opportunity. After how much I loved the last sequel, I had high expectations for this one. Upon reading up on it, I assumed it would be similar in style to the prior sequel and it did indeed follow a similar format that is more psychological in nature. I wound up liking this one as well though not as much as “Inferno.” Sadly, just like “Inferno”, this movie was also released straight to video and was not given a theatrical release.
The movie begins with Trevor Gooden married to Kirsty Cotton, from the first three “Hellraiser” movies.
