A version of this story first appeared in the May 16 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. The growing boycott of The Beverly Hills Hotel has left event planners scrambling for new locations, forced Hollywood's boldface names to test other lunch spots and even led to speculation that Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, might be forced to sell the fabled property he has owned since 1987. From Ocean’s Eleven to his throwback leading-man aura, George Clooney has sometimes projected a Sinatra vibe — but he’s no Blue Eyes when it comes to singing. Nevertheless, the actor semi-reluctantly joined Neil Diamond in a rendition of “Sweet Caroline” Saturday night at the 26th annual Carousel of Hope Ball in Los Angeles where the Oscar winner was honored for his humanitarian efforts. He was presented with the Brass Ring award by Shirley MacLaine, who described him as the “most generous, sweetest, charming human being,” and the event raised $2.5 million for the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.

At the risk of sounding ghoulish, here’s the first thing many people will want to know: The 88-year-old owner of Viacom and CBS seemed relatively alert and steady in his appearance today to celebrate his becoming the 2,467th person to have a star on the walk. Sumner Redstone‘s health is an ongoing concern in business circles, and he raised new questions this month when he said that he wouldn’t show at Viacom’s shareholders’ meeting. (He changed his mind but used a curtain to prevent attendees from seeing him enter or leave the stage.) Today, though, all appeared well in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel as Redstone talked about his journey to becoming a billionaire mogul. It was “torturous, long, hard and sometimes difficult, but it was always exciting and always rewarding,” he said. His most devoted acolyte,...

New York, Oct 26 – Hollywood philanthropist Barbara Davis was left shocked when her grandson, Jason Davis, showed up at her Carousel of Hope Ball with Tiger Woods’ mistress, Rachel Uchitel.
“Rachel is not quite the usual calibre of guest for the event,” which is a highlight in the La social calendar,” the New York Post quoted a source as saying.
Indeed only Jason, who filmed ‘Celebrity Rehab’ with Uchitel, and Kathy Griffin seemed to want to be photographed with her.
Her name was conspicuously missing from a list of attendees too.
Other guests at the Beverly Hills event, which raises money for children’s diabetes, included Halle Berry, Jane Fonda, Tom Hanks.
