The second season of Celebrity Jeopardy! kicked off on Wednesday (September 27) night, and, as promised, the show featured a big visual change, allowing viewers to keep track of the categories while the contestants answer clues. Now fans are wondering if the bold new look is headed for the regular edition of the show. Showrunner Michael Davies teased the change on this week’s episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, saying, “I’m not gonna try to describe it too much because describing it, when you see it, you’ll instantly understand, but it’s a way that you get to focus much more on the individual categories every single time that a category is being chosen.” Though this could be seen as somewhat of a test run for the syndicated show, Davies said that right now, “We by no means are committed to go and do this on the regular show.

The second season of Celebrity Jeopardy! is set to make a changes which could be headed for the regular show if they prove popular with viewers. Show bosses are testing out new additions to the on-screen experience, which will allow viewers at home to keep track of the categories while the contestants answer clues. This has long been a goal of Jeopardy! showrunner Michael Davies, who has talked previously about finding a way to keep the category on the screen when the clues are shown. The question was finding a way to do this without distracting from the clue itself. Well, it seems the producers might have figured it out. “Sometimes the show moves so fast that you lose track of the category we’re in… so we’ve tried a new thing,” Davies said on the latest episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast. “I’m not gonna try to...

There has been a lot of debate over Ken Jennings‘ decision to continue hosting Jeopardy! despite the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes, with some fans and former contestants going so far as to call him a “scab.” Besides resharing a statement from the show’s executive producer, Michael Davies, referencing how the late Alex Trebek continued hosting during the 2007-08 writers’ strike, Jennings has kept relatively quiet on the subject. However, his Omnibus podcast co-host, John Roderick, has now spoken out, sharing his thoughts on the controversy and defending the Jeopardy! Goat. “If you look at SAG-AFTRA rules there are contractual carve-outs for daytime television and game shows specifically,” Roderick wrote in a Facebook post. “Ken is a member of SAG in good standing. Everyone in Hollywood is aware that different unions have different rules and different contracts apply differently to different jobs.” “Ken is not a scab and anyone...

It’s the Jeopardy! question on everyone’s mind: Which of the syndicated phenom’s two rotating hosts, Ken Jennings or Mayim Bialik, are winning the ratings game? Executive producer Michael Davies is buzzing in with the answer.

Self-confessed Jeopardy! “supervillain” James Holzhauer is leading the pack on the currently airing Masters tournament, but the game show icon has admitted he is desperate to return to regular Jeopardy! His big news comes via a new Vulture interview with the show’s executive producer Michael Davies, who was also asked about the chances of ever seeing a rematch between Holzhauer and Ken Jennings. Early in the Masters tournament, Holzhauer even used his Final Jeopardy answer to call out Jennings for ducking a rematch. “There are various rules that exist at Jeopardy! that were laid down by the greats. Every now and then I bump up against them. One of those rules is once you’ve hosted Jeopardy!, you can never play Jeopardy! again,” Davies said in regards to whether another Jennings versus Holzhauer match-up is possible. “Ken has very directly told me he’s retired from Jeopardy!. Jeopardy! showrunner Michael Davies has made plenty of changes since taking over the role from Mike Richards in 2021, including new visuals, new tournaments, new rules, and, of course, two new hosts. While Davies himself didn’t select Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik as Jeopardy! hosts (that was decided before he came aboard), he has helped them settle into their roles, including choosing which specials and tournaments each should helm. It was initially reported that Bialik would be hosting all prime-time events, but the currently airing Masters tournament sees Jennings in the host role. “When I joined Jeopardy!, there was already a deal that existed with Mayim to do all prime-time events,” Davies told Vulture in a new interview. “At that point, it was just the Jeopardy! National College Championship. I don’t think anybody had thought about any other prime-time events. Then Celebrity Jeopardy! happened, which became natural for Mayim to handle.

Roger Bennett, the indefatigable co-founder of the soccer podcasting franchise Men in Blazers, has never played a second of competitive soccer. Since 2011, when he launched a lo-fi weekly(-ish) gab session with fellow bald British-expat soccer obsessive Michael Davies, a successful game show producer, Bennett has focused on the human stories behind the game rather than the intricacies of field strategy, of which he admittedly knew little at first. But as he demonstrated on a recent Zoom meeting with a current member of the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team who shall remain nameless, he has mastered the X’s and O’s of the charm offensive.
His objective for the meeting was to persuade the player to join the growing roster of voices featured on Men in Blazers as it seeks to expand beyond “Rog and Davo,” as the two hosts call themselves. Bennett laid his best lines...

On the latest edition of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, Jeopardy! producers Michael Davies and Sarah Foss not only revealed a new tournament in the works but shared details of how tournaments will be aired in the future. The discussion came as the producers shared their new year’s resolutions for the long-running game show. This included the previously reported Masters tournament and forming stronger relationships with affiliate stations across the U.S. to increase the show’s availability — it was announced Wednesday (January 11) that Jeopardy! has been renewed for five years through the 2027-2028 season. One of the more intriguing resolutions was a plan to restructure the scheduling of the show, specifically in regard to tournaments. This would mean airing the tournament spin-offs at the beginning of Season 40 before the regular syndicated episodes begin, meaning fewer interruptions. “We had a slightly weird thing where we kicked off the regular season for five weeks,...

Along with this possible league that could feature some of the show’s most winningest players, Davies is also considering games solely focused on certain areas of interest like sports and pop culture. “What we really need to develop is the pro-level version of the game,” Davies told the Nyt. “It seemed ridiculous to me that we have this sport where every single year we take all of our best players — we take our LeBrons and our Dwyanes — and we switch them all out,” noting the desire to retain fan-favorite players. The master league...

For fans who can’t get enough of the Jeopardy! franchise, Executive Producer Michael Davies has some promising news for you.
Now that a revival of Celebrity Jeopardy! is off the ground, Davies is flirting with other off-shoots like a masters league that features the show’s winningest players, and maybe even a spinoff focused solely on sports and pop culture trivia.

Davies would even like to air the masters league live. “That makes a lot of my staff nervous,” he said to the paper.

After a revolving door of guest hosts and a revolting scandal behind the scenes, Jeopardy! is finally stabilizing, with Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings splitting the hosting duties for the upcoming 39th season and Michael Davies entering his first season as the syndicated game show’s new executive producer. Michael Davies announced his new role on the show’s J!Buzz blog this April, writing, “I am both honored and humbled by the faith the studio and the staff have put in me. Over the next few months, the scope of our plans will become clear.” In a post this July, Davies outlined some of those plans, saying that he and his fellow producers were going to air their favorite episodes from the past season during summer re-runs, the Jeopardy! website would start hosting three-minute recaps of each episode, and the producers would be hosting a podcast called Inside Jeopardy!

Jeopardy! fans could be in for an epic matchup once the Tournament of Champions for Season 39 arrives. The latest season of the fan-favorite game show kicks off on Monday, September 12, but the coveted Tournament of Champions will begin a little later on Monday, October 31. During the tournament’s run, there will be one special episode airing that will hold no weight on the competition’s outcome. And according to executive producer Michael Davies, it’s liable to “break the internet.” In a recent installment of the Inside Jeopardy! Podcast, Davies teased that the episode would pay tribute to the late longtime host Alex Trebek on the second anniversary of his death. But apart from promising some excitement, further details about the episode weren’t shared. Still, some fans are pointing out some interesting crossover between Davies’ language discussing the special episode and a reference he made to an unaired practice match between champions Amy Schneider,...

Davies took over at the show earlier this year following the departure of Mike Richards. However, Davies suggested that Bialik deliver her thanks directly to camera, explaining, “I think on a show about fact, it wasn’t right that we were looking over to an imaginary Johnny.” He continued, “Instead, you know, we thank him, because we should thank him in the beginning of the episode,...

Jeopardy! would be sticking with its two-host formula. According to sources, Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings are finalizing deals to continue to share hosting duties on the venerable syndicated game show’s upcoming Season 39. A source for Sony Pictures TV, which produces Jeopardy! would not comment on speculation.
Bialik, who previously was announced as host of the Jeopardy! primetime and spinoff series, and former Jeopardy! champion Jennings had been filling in as guest hosts of the mothership syndicated program following the abrupt exit of Mike Richards as host in August after one day of tapings. The two were subsequently named full-time hosts for the remainder of Season 38. The pairing seemed to work well, and was well received by fans.
Jeopardy! recently landed its third consecutive Outstanding Game Show Daytime Emmy Award. The eligibility period spanned the final episodes hosted by the late Alex Trebek as well as Bialik and Jennings’ tenures.
