Scott David, the longtime Criminal Minds casting director who was let go from the CBS procedural by production company Touchstone Television the day after The Hollywood Reporter’s Mar. 31 investigation into the entertainment industry’s proliferating culture of pay-to-play auditions, has broken his silence. In a letter dated Apr. 14 and addressed to colleagues (It’s reproduced in full below), David wrote, “My time with Criminal Minds ended for a myriad reasons.” He reaffirms his belief that the workshops he teaches and runs through the North Hollywood company he co-owns, The Actors Link, fall “within the parameters” of California’s Krekorian Talent

The Vampire Diaries casting director Greg Orson has canceled a series of workshops later this month in Georgia, where the show is filmed, pulling advertisements for the classes after fielding questions from The Hollywood Reporter. This comes after the March 30 publication of THR’s investigation into the growing prevalence of pay-to-play auditions and the high-profile dismissal of prominent casting director Scott David (CBS’ Criminal Minds) that soon followed. Orson, who has been with The CW’s hit drama since its start, had been advertising under the banner of his own Go Casting Academy a slate of three-hour classes on April 29

Criminal Minds' longtime casting director Scott David was relieved of his duties Thursday, the day after The Hollywood Reporter published an investigation into the television industry’s proliferation of casting “workshops” that encourage actors to pay for access to potential auditions. The story quoted David and also featured his portrait. Prominent in the TV casting community, David has been a contentious figure for years for simultaneously working on the CBS procedural while owning a business, The Actors Link, which charged those seeking roles on his show and others for audition classes taught by those concurrently in a hiring position on network,

I first met Casting Director Scott David at a workshop a couple of years ago. I had heard so many good things about him and his class that when I got the chance, I signed up immediately. In the class, we came in with a prepared monologue, he handed out scenes – long ones – and then improv. It was a really fun time and one of the best workshops I’ve attended.
Scott has been casting since 1996. He’s currently casting CBS’s Criminal Minds but he also casts for film, theater and web-series. In 2010, he was awarded the Heller Award for Favorite Television Casting Director from the Talent Managers Association.
He’s recently joined up with Beckinfield, the sci-fi mystery website where you can create and play a character, collaborate with others and showcase yourself as an actor. Each month, Scott watches the actor’s videos, chooses his favorites and gives comments on their performances.

Annie Quinn, Em-Braceable Me -- When I was 13, I had braces. They were heavy and awkward and permanently stuck to my teeth. I remember how I tried to conceal them by not smiling, and I begged and pleaded with the orthodontist to take them off. Who can start acting with a mouth full of metal? I wanted them off. And I got my wish. They were taken off six months early, and I was ready to perform — only problem is now I think I might be facing braces karma. I left last month's Take Five a cliffhanger: My episode of My Name Is Earl was preempted and my birthday was a bust. This month my episode aired. Yes, the episode where I play a cheerleader with headgear. Everyone who watched was extremely thrilled that I was in the entire episode. The irony was that after bracing myself the first time for my episode to premiere,...
