Stop all the clocks,” Wh Auden famously wrote of the enormity of grief; “cut off the telephone... Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.” If Auden were writing that poem about the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, the clocks might be replaced with “traffic” and the telephone with “central London”. For one day, Britain seems to have ground to a halt.
In a television landscape increasingly dominated by on-demand streaming, where live “event TV” has become limited to the Euros finals and Love Island, today we bore witness to the passing of a seminal moment in our island’s story: all the major channels devoted their scheduling to the Queen’s funeral, in a sombre, striking acknowledgement that an era is ending. And in this wall-to-wall broadcast, the protagonists – the new King Charles, his wife Camilla, sons William and Harry, and their wives, Kate and Meghan – moved with the enforced dispassion of performers.

The state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II — likely to be one of the most watched events in history and an occasion that was carried out with intricate, military precision throughout — has come to an end.
The conclusion of a grand spectacle, the likes of which the U.K. is unlikely to put on again for a very long time, saw the queen’s coffin lowered into the royal vault beneath St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where King George III, IV and V, William IV and others also lie. Last year, Prince Philip, the queen’s husband, was laid to rest there. Later on in the evening of Sep. 19, the royal family announced that the queen had been buried “together with the Duke of Edinburgh at The King George VI Memorial Chapel” in a private funeral service, away from the cameras.

Queen Elizabeth II‘s coffin has arrived at Buckingham Palace, where thousands of mourners lined up to watch, and the entire royal family — including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — were at the Palace when the hearse arrived via police escort.
King Charles III, Camilla, the Queen Consort, Prince William and Kate Middleton were also seen arriving at the Palace before the coffin’s arrival Tuesday night in London where, according to the Daily Mail, mourners also belted out “hip hip hooray” after the coffin made its way inside the Palace’s grounds.
Earlier in the day, Her Majesty’s coffin boarded the Royal Air Force Globemaster C-17 plane and traveled from Edinburgh to Britain. The queen had been lying in rest at St. Giles’ Cathedral. Upon landing, the reception party — which included Prime Minister Liz Truss — received the coffin at the Royal Air Force station Raf Northolt in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The Michael Grandage plan is working. Stars and cheap tickets are bringing new audiences to his West End season, with 25% of the tickets going to first-time bookers.
Now Harry Potter fans are confronted with a gloriously perverse writing talent. The Cripple of Inishmaan is Grandage's most unlikely combination to date. Smooth-faced Daniel Radcliffe takes the title role in provocative Martin McDonagh's 1997 play. The neat, adored boy wizard plays a shambolic youth no one wants to kiss. As directed by Grandage, this looks like a cunning wheeze.
You would not pick Radcliffe out as a soaring talent if you saw him with an innocent eye on the stage. Yet neither would you mark him down as a star who has blundered on to the boards. More assured than he was in his last stage appearance, in Equus, he is restrained and controlled in a...

★☆☆☆☆ There seemed to be much promise to Uncle David (2010), co-directed by Mike Nicholls (the man behind the 2008 TV special Living with Boy George), Gary Reich and David Hoyle, who also wrote and stars in the film along side fellow co-writer Ashley Ryder. The story (what there is of it) concerns David (Hoyle), an ageing campsite queen who lives in a caravan by the sea, and his young nephew Ashley (Ryder) who comes to stay with him. As the weekend progresses so does David and Ashley's relationship in a way that is hardly natural for an uncle and his nephew.
