Q&A Interview with Up-and-Coming 13-Year-Old Filmmaker Emily Diprimio
by Heather Wixson
It’s not often that you run across aspiring genre directors who are still in their teens so when we discovered a brand new Kickstarter campaign for Carver, an upcoming indie slasher from the filmmaking team of Ron Diprimio and his 13-year-old daughter Emily Diprimio, we immediately took notice.
In the campaign, the Diprimios’ describe Carver as, “a throwback 80’s style slasher that follows a group of teenagers who are haunted by a despicable act they committed on Halloween when they were younger.

Ready, Set, Fund is a column about crowdfunding and related fundraising endeavors for Austin and Texas independent film projects.
Tinker Bell just didn't cut it for me as a kid. I was more about the depictions of changelings that I read about in the half-price Scandinavian mythology books my family members thought made "nice" Christmas gifts. Needless to say, when I read about the Indiegogo campaign for the independent "unreliable documentary" Preternatural I got excited -- and wished I had $35,000 to give its filmmakers.
Austin-based brothers Sean and Tim Cunningham (part of the team behind 2012's Austin-shot indie Sick Boy) have racked up more than 60 feature film credits (nine of those received VFX Academy Award-nominations), and they now aim to put terror back into fairy folklore. No more of this post-Victorian, Disneyfied ludicousness; with Preternatural, about modern-day monsters living amongst us in plain sight, we're talking "eat your face type...

The Mole Man of Belmont Avenue Trailer and Release Details: “Two years ago, the Mugg Brothers, who have never worked a day in their lives, inherited a brownstone apartment building. In that short time, their slacker ways have run the building into the ground. Tenants are moving out, no one drinks at the bar downstairs, and the building’s pets are going missing. If all that isn’t enough to make them sit up and take notice, they soon discover a mysterious creature is hiding in the basement and trying to...

Last year Timothy Cunningham produced one of the most inspired micro budget flicks weve seen in years Sick Boy. The flick was driven by character study and palpable tension and the finale delivered a massive wallop that showcased the special effects pedigree of Timothy and his brother Sean. These guys craft some amazing and frightening visuals and theyre now gearing up to do it once more. The brothers currently have an indiegogo campaign underway in order to raise funds for what promises to be a standout effort in Preternatural. After taking in Sick Boy and all its awkward eeriness Im itching to see this film made.

Tim T. Cunningham is a name you may not recognise but he has been working as a visual effect artist since 1997 on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, including Armageddon, The Patriot, X-Men First Class and most recently Snow White and the Huntsman. Having lensed his first feature, Xtracurricular, in 2003; Cunningham gets back behind the camera for Sick Boy, a low-budget horror movie featuring that most-familiar of horror tropes – the perils of babysitting…
Perpetual slacker Lucy (Bartusiak) has had job after job, seemingly unable to stay interested in her work for too long. After quitting her job as a dental assistant and arguing with her fiance (Degrassi‘s Marc Donato) over family finances, she steps in for a friend to babysit for a local woman, Dr. Gordan (Rochon), whose young boy...

*a screener of this film was provided by director Tim. T. Cunningham. **there are spoilers here. Director: Tim T. Cunningham. Cast: Skye McCole Bartusiak, Marc Donato, and Debbie Rochon. This reviewer has little doubt that director Tim T. Cunningham will no longer be a fan of 28Dla after reading this review. Sick Boy is Cunningham's indie production that was developed for under $50K, over the course of thirteen days. The loss of a set late in the shooting schedule prevented some reshooting and the development of some scenes. So, Sick Boy sometimes comes across as lackluster. The pacing has no sense of timing or impetus to move forward. Meanwhile, the protagonist, Lucy, is underdeveloped and actress Skye McCole Bartusiak is unable to carry the material to its full potential. Sick Boy is a disappointing outing, which only finds itself when it is too late and the final credits are set to roll.
