In May 1997, Variety Magazine reported that Crowe was doing a production polish of "New York Dive" a script written by W. Peter Iliff, for Fox 2000, with Rob Cohen slated as director, and Adam Fields as producer.
In November 2002, Variety Magazine reported that Crowe was hired to write a screenplay adaptation of "Warriors of God: Richard the Lionheart and Saladin in the Third Crusade", a novel written by James Reston Jr., for MGM and Phoenix Pictures, with Quentin Curtis, Mike Medavoy, and Bradford W. Smith overseeing the project.
He had written under the pseudonyms C.R. O'Christopher and Leon Piedmont.
