You think Blumhouse’s M3GAN is a big deal? From 1988 to 1991, Chucky was even bigger. From 7-Eleven to Spencer’s Gifts, American stores were crammed to the brim with Child’s Play comics, toys, posters, bumper stickers, magazines, books and t-shirts.
For me, a tiny tot who lived in constant terror of the quote-unquote Good Guy, it was an absolute living hell. Back then my brother (four years my senior) would beg for every piece of Chucky media he could get his little hands on. He adorned his walls with posters, rented the movies constantly, and would even read passages from the novelizations of Child’s Play 2 and 3 to drive me out of his bedroom.
Let me tell you, that last one always worked. To see an image of Chucky was bad enough, but to hear a bedtime story filtered through his twisted perspective? Traumatizing doesn’t begin to describe it.

Vacation by Matthew Costello; Thomas Dunne Books; 2011; 320 pgs; $24.99 Us Welcome to Paterville! Family getaway for all away from it all. In this "anti-zombie" tale from master storyteller Matt Costello, the future isn't very bright. Costello has yet to pen a bad novel, from Wurm to Homecoming to Nowhere, and collaborations with F. Paul Wilson only bring out the other's strengths. After succeeding in videogame battlegrounds (Rage and 7th Guest fame), he returns to a...

Screen Australia, the federal funding body for the screen industry, will next month hold a one day seminar aimed at helping content creators generate ideas which will work across mulitple media platforms.
The event, titled, Multi-platform Storytelling: From Idea to Market, will feature case studies covering features, TV drama, documentary, game, online projects or brands.
In what might be taken as a hint that those looking for funding from Screen Australia in these areas should make a point of getting to the November 29 session, the announcement states: “Attendance is strongly recommended for content creators working in any of these areas.”
According to Screen Australia: “Taking a primary project across multiple media platforms enables creative productions to connect with a wider, more involved audience and be more commercially viable. Developing a single story idea across devices, channels and communities requires an intensive creative process, knowledge of the landscape, and complex production management.
