Shots were fired, loyalties were tested, and characters encountered true evil in Monday’s Season 1 finale of A&E’s Damien. With the first season now in the books, Daily Dead had a chance to catch up with executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara, who discussed Damien’s journey so far, working with his outstanding ensemble of actors, the intense Season 1 finale, and what to expect in future episodes if the show is green-lit for a second season.
Now that the whole first season of Damien has aired and you have a little time to reflect, what goals are you the most proud of accomplishing on this journey so far?
Glen Mazzara: I’m most proud of the writers remaining committed to the story. When you lay out a season, there’s a lot of input from different voices throughout the entire filmmaking process. We set out to develop a...

Plenty of devious plans for future Salem episodes were discussed at the show's roundtables that Daily Dead took part in at Comic-Con, and now some of those ideas could move forward on the small screen, as Wgn America has officially renewed their witchcraft series for a third season.
Press Release: "The magic continues for Wgn America’s original, breakout hit series “Salem,” with the announcement made today at Comic-Con International: San Diego by the cast and creative team that the supernatural thriller has been renewed for a third season. The captivating one-hour drama, from Fox 21 Television Studios and creators and writers Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, boldly reimagines the infamous 17th century witch trials in colonial Massachusetts in a world where witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem to be. The third season will begin production in Shreveport, La later this year for a 2016 debut.

Arrow Season 3, Episode 11 “Midnight City”
Written by Wendy Mericle & Ben Sokolowski
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm Et on The CW
As Arrow often does, “Midnight City” finds its heart most consistently with Felicity Smoak. There are many attempts in this episode to forge emotional connections between characters – Laurel and her father, Maseo and Tatsu, Malcolm and Thea – but when “Midnight” is focused on Felictiy and the void left by Oliver Queen, it enriches her story and Ray’s, elevating it beyond a lot of the other, more telegraphed material in this week’s episode.
What Felicity’s presence in “Midnight City” really adds to is Ray’s story, which is really a lot of re-purposed season one Arrow material, fit around the background and persona of Ray Palmer. He’s rich, resourceful, attractive, and dangerous; Felicity Smoak is attracted to him; Ray/Oliver’s feelings for her...

TVLine reports that Glenn Fleshler (True Detective) will play Cordell Doemling, yet another familiar name to fans of Thomas Harris’ books and the Hannibal Lecter movies. For those unfamiliar, Cordell Doemling is the verbally abused medical aid to the wealthy, wicked, and mutilated Mason Verger, who will now be played on the TV series by Joe Anderson in place of Michael Pitt. In the 2001 film, Hannibal, Doemling was played by Željko Ivanek.

The Flash, Season 1, Episode 10, “Revenge of the Rogues”
Written by Geoff Johns & Kai Yu Wu
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Et on the CW
The CW’s hit series came back from its mid-season break with “Revenge of the Rogues,” an action packed hour juggling many subplots and further building the DC universe. When last we saw our hero, he was defeated by the mysterious Man in the Yellow Suit, but thanks to a wild card in Firestorm, the Scarlett Speedster made out with his life. That encounter plays heavily into the show’s mid-season premiere which opens with Barry’s narration changed to reflect his battle with the Reverse Flash, followed by Barry working on improving his speed through various training exercises that force him to dodge drones piloted by Cisco (How cool was that?). While it might be quite some time before the Reverse-Flash is seen again,...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 2, Episode 7, “Deliverance”
Written by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
After a string of episodes where Sleepy Hollow has run the risk of feeling too formulaic, “Deliverance” is a welcome breath of fresh air for the season. The show has always done a better job than it needs to of balancing episodic concerns with the broader arc, but “Deliverance” is the first time since the premiere that it’s been able to cede the entire running time to character arcs over cool monster design. It’s a well-constructed hour of the show, one that hits a lot of emotional beats and even draws close to the idea that it might excise one of its main cast before the midpoint of the season.

From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, Season 1, Episode 9, “Boxman”
Written by Matt Morgan and Ian Sobel
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on El Rey Network
“Sorry brother, things are about to get a little weird”
“La Conquista”, episode eight of From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, was a rare misstep for the show whose entire first season has been a great surprise. Even though “La Conquista” had its high points, it was ultimately a flawed and disjointed episode that distracted from how great the show has been from the pilot. “La Conquista” did however end with one heck of a bloody awesome cliffhanger, with Richie (Zane Holtz) seemingly accepting Santanico’s (Eiza Gonzalez) deal.
“Boxman”, the season’s penultimate episode, picks up with a flashback to the fire that we know a young Richie saved Seth (D.J. Cotrona) from. One of the best things about the...

Arrow Season 2, Episode 22 “Streets of Fire”
Written by Jake Coburn & Ben Sokolowski
Directed by Nick Copus
Season finale airs Wednesday, 5/14 at 8pm Et on The CW
The last few weeks have seen a dramatic crescendo on Arrow, with Slade’s plan to destroy Oliver’s entire universe coming to light (or reveling in new found darkness, however you’d like to put it). With it has come a host of changes to Arrow‘s world: the death of Moira, Laurel learning the Arrow’s identity, and Thea’s disenchantment with her family and love life, major shifts in world dynamics that needed to occur to both push its characters into new stages of development, but also to neatly arrange the dominoes of the season’s endgame. “Streets of Fire” exists in the shadow of that endgame, an hour attempting to maintain momentum heading into the finale – but outside of a few inconsequential developments,...

Revolution, Season 2, Episode 16: “Exposition Boulevard”
Written by David Rambo & Trey Callaway
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Children are the key to the future, so it makes complete sense for the Patriots to get every teen in the land through their boot camps and brainwash them into fighting for the United States. It’s both a form of population control and a way to bolster the ranks.
Charlie and the Monroes are back in the Willoughby area with Charlie’s new gang in tow. While taking down the Patriots is a major goal, there are more pressing concerns. Namely, the Nevilles coming for Bass’s head and the threat of the boot camp and he soldiers it may produce. The bulk of the story focuses on the latter, with Bass and Miles ensnaring a couple of would-be teen trackers trying to hunt them down.

Arrow Season 2, Episode 14 “Time of Death”
Written by Wendy Mericle & Beth Schwartz
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Wednesday nights at 8pm Et on The CW
It’s too bad that “Time of Death” is less about The Clock King than it is about Laurel Lance – given some more screen time, Robert Knepper’s ability to portray self-fulfilling weirdo (remember how awesome he was on Prison Break?) would easily rank among the best of Arrow‘s one-off villains (which is unfortunately, a short list). Instead, “Time of Death” spends a lot of time on Laurel and her emotions, picking up only when The Clock King and his mind games (particularly those aimed at Felicity) came to the forefront.
The Laurel Problem remains the Laurel Problem in “Time of Death” for a simple reason: instead of allowing her explosion at the end of “Heir to the Demon” to catalyze her character into action,...

Though the jury is still out on whether or not Robert Rodriguez remaking his iconic 1996 film From Dusk Till Dawn for his recently launched El Rey television network is a good idea, no amount of fan trepidation is going to delay the arrival of the show, officially titled From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series. Set to run for ten episodes starting in March, From Dusk Till Dawn is by far the buzziest project that El Rey currently has going, and the directors involved should alone be enough to attract horror fans of every variety.
Recently, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Rodriguez has locked down Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez to film the pivotal eighth episode of the series. Though few details are known about the episode, it will feature lots of bloody violence going down inside the series’ main locale, a strip club habited by vampires.
