Night at the Museum 2 is exactly what a Hollywood sequel needs to be. Bigger, louder, filled with more famous faces and almost the same story as the first. It is on its way to eclipsing the success of the first and it hits Blu-ray and DVD next week.
Ben Stiller gathers his Natm cohort as they take their mix of slapstick and Scooby Doo to Washington D.C. where the Smithsonian archives are bought to life by the power of Ahkmenrah’s Tablet. Shawn Levy’s family friendly Night at the Museum grossed nearly $600m worldwide so a sequel was fairly inevitable and in these risk aversive climate the Battle of the Smithsonian needed only to rekindle the comedic chaos and broad dramatic strokes of the original to succeed.
It’s no surprise that the sequel does not stray from this path, and this is a blessing and a curse. »

The Winter Games in Vancouver begin in three months, and Stephen Colbert recent announcement that his Colbert Nation would sponsor the U.S. Speedskating team sprinkled the first flakes of Olympic spirit. Consider it a blizzard. At least in my house. That's because the red-headed stepchild of the Harry Potter franchise, Rupert Grint, is reportedly the choice to play British ski-jumper Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards in a long-in-the-works biopic. A little background: Back at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Edwards, a bespectacled English plasterer with relatively no athletic training finished dead last in the ski-jump. But his jumps were nevertheless »

Owen Wilson has signed to voice the title pet in Marmaduke, the Great Dane of the long-running comic strip in an adaptation for Fox and New Regency. It will be live-action combined with CGI animals.
Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy are playing humans, and the rest of the animals will sound like Fergie (”The Black Eyed Peas”), Emma Stone, George Lopez (let me guess, a chihuahua?), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, and Damon and Marlon Wayans. Tom Dey (Shanghai Noon, Showtime) is directing.
Did no one see Garfield? Even Bill Murray regret that. (Side note: this is much better.)
The plot will be based on the Brad Anderson comic strip created in 1954, so they’ll have 55 years of canine humor to mine gold from. It must be nice to have a job where you can scrawl out a year’s worth of awful dog jokes and sit around the rest of the 364 days. »

Owen Wilson is back in the doghouse after scoring a Christmas 2008 hit with Marley & Me - he has signed on to be the voice of cartoon mutt Marmaduke in a new film.
The actor will join William H. Macy, Fergie, Steve Coogan and Wayans brothers Damon and Marlon in Fox’s CGI/live-action movie adaptation of the 55-year-old comic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It won't be the first time Wilson's voice has been the star of a movie - he played Lightning McQueen in hit 2006 animated movie Cars and he portrays Coach Skip in pal Wes Anderson's upcoming animated tale Fantastic Mr. Fox. »

What is it with Owen Wilson and movies about dogs? Last year, Wilson joined Jennifer Aniston in the heart string-yanking, super-melodramatic dying dog movie Marley and Me, and now THR is reporting that he'll be voicing the rascally Great Dane Marmaduke on the big screen. Based on the popular comic strip that was created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and Phil Leeming, with a script by Tim Rassmussen and Vince Di Meglio (License to Wed, Smother), this live-action/CG movie will follow a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke, a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes. It will see the title character "navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace." Tom Dey (Failure to Launch, Shanghai Noon) will direct the feature, with Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy making up the human cast »

Still mining for the flakes of properties with name recognition, the 55-year-old comic strip “Marmaduke” and the 47-year-old “Berenstain Bears” children books are getting movies. Like everything that kids find interesting, parents or grandparents will have to sit their children or grandchildren down and use the introduction that holds every child’s attention, “Back in my day…” Hit the jump to go beyond nostalgia and slam into old-person crabbiness.
THR reports that Owen Wilson (your grandparents don’t know who that is) will provide the voice of Marmaduke, “the rascally Great Dane… a slobbery pooch who creates chaos wherever he goes.” I assume that when they said “chaos”, THR meant “comic mayhem” since “chaos” would imply the terrifying existentialism of uncertainty. If that’s the direction the live-action/CG movie is headed, then I take back my skepticism. Joining Wilson are Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy as Marmaduke’s human family, »

Owen Wilson has been cast to voice Marmaduke in Fox's CGI/live-action movie adaptation of the comic, according to the Hollywood Reporter. (The dog doesn't speak in the comic, but perhaps Wilson became an expert barker after working on Marley & Me and will just bow-wow his way through the film? One can hope....) "Marmaduke," the long-running comic strip is about to bark into theaters near you! And Owen Wilson will lend a helping hand.
The actor will voice the rambunctious Great Dane for Fox. The live-action CG movie tells the tale of the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their dog Marmaduke.
Based on the comic strip created in 1954 by Brad Anderson and Phil Leeming, the script is written by Tim Rasmussen and Vince Di Meglio. There is going to be a Mutts vs. Pedigrees war (fun!), and Marmaduke will even fall in love. Awww...
The humans will be played by Judy Greer, Lee Pace, and William H. Macy; Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez (he sure loves voicing animals, he was just in "Beverly Hills Chihuahua), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans, and Marlon Wayans will provide the voices.

When a live action Marmaduke movie was first announced [1] back in March, Fox still hadn't quite decided if they wanted the comic strip-based Great Dane to be a CG mutt or the real thing. Ironically, it was the success of the Owen Wilson/Jennifer Aniston rom-com Marley and Me that made them think that a live action dog might be the way to go. I say it's ironic because this week Owen Wilson has apparently signed on to star in this film as well... as the voice of the computer animated version of Marmaduke! The Hollywood Reporter [2] says that Wilson will headline a voice cast that also includes Damon and Marlon Wayans, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan and Fergie. The human family in the film will be played by Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy. There's no question that this is a gig that probably should be below Wilson, »

Because starring in just one movie about a giant dog wasn't enough for Owen Wilson, the actor has just signed on the dotted line to provide the voice for Marmaduke in 20th Century Fox's live-action/CG movie. I don't berate Wilson for taking a paycheck, and he's got the right kind of personality to make the pooch's pipes interesting, it's Fox that I have disdain for. Really, Fox? It wasn't enough to inflict pain upon us with two Garfield movies? Your investors weren't satisfied with all that money made by the talking rats in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie? Why do you guys have to be the talking animal movie studio?
Sigh.
The logline for Marmaduke has the Winslow family pack up and move from Kansas to California. Their dog Marmaduke is big, produces a lot of dog slobber and creates chaos at every opportunity. Family friendly comedic hijinks ensue! »

From Splash Page: The last time we saw actor Owen Wilson playing with dogs, it was in the 2008 adaptation of John Grogan's touchingly heartbreaking book "Marley & Me." In this latest bit of news, we learn that Wilson will move from playing with dogs to simply playing one.
Wilson is locked to star in "Marmaduke," a big-screen adaptation of Brad Anderson's long-running newspaper comic strip. Sorry, folks -- while it may have been a few months since we learned about that dreaded Marmaduke project, it hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, the sucker has found its lead voice. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Owen Wilson has agreed to voice the infamous Great Dane in the Fox adaptation.
While the details weren't ironed out initially, the project is now set to be a live-action/CG mix "which has shades of Fox's surprise smash Marley & Me" -- focusing on the Winslow family as they movie from Kansas to Orange County with their slobbering dog. But no, it's not as simple as a travel/fish out of water story. The dog will "navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams, and overcome a fall from grace." And here I thought the simple idea of a Marmaduke feature film was vomit-inducing enough. And while »
