- Roadside Attractions are grabbing some Afm headlines with a post-tiff sale pick-up (which are trickling in about a one sale per week rate). Never going overboard with the film inventory (they have Happy Tears and The Good Guy prepped for next year), the distributor are getting ready for Spring with Derrick Borte's The Joneses. The pic which received its world premiere at Tiff and I was too tired to see at the scheduled crack of dawn screening I had pegged it for, should logically should receive an April or May play date. Borte pulled from his own experiences working in the advertising industry to come up with the original idea. The Tiff description below gives us an idea of what to expect. Borte begins the film by showing us ourselves – or at least who we often aspire to be. We meet Steve Jones (David Duchovny), his wife, Kate »

At a glance, The Joneses seems like a can't-miss and must-miss proposition all at once: Filmmaker Derrick Borte's feature debut. A cast comprising Demi Moore as David Duchovny as the parents of a mysteriously affluent and happy exurban family (with next door neighbors played by Glenne Headly and Gary Cole). Ben Hollingsworth and shirt-allergic starlet Amber Heard as their kids. A semi-secret first-act plot twist and oddly vague plot details beyond that. Potential bidding-war fodder or gimmicky letdown. And after all that, The Joneses did wind up missing -- but only by this much. »

Trouble ensues when an uncanny accident sends one of Joel’s (Bateman) employees to the hospital for, uh, losing something important. The aftermath of the incident forces him to re-think his plans, and re-examine the life he thought had been so mind-numbingly drab to begin with.
Who’s It For? Fans of Jason Bateman’s career turn around. This guy may be a one-note sort of actor, but like his young counterpart on Arrested Development Michael Cera, this is one note Mike Judge hopes we don’t mind hearing/seeing yet again.

It’s a special thing when you see a great movie not knowing anything about it ahead of time. When my girlfriend and I ducked into a dank shopping mall movie theater to see “Office Space” back in 1999, we weren’t expecting anything special. I didn’t know that it was going to be one of the single best comedies made in the past twenty years. I also didn’t know it was made by the same dude who created “Beavis and Butthead.” Even after seeing it so many times, I can’t cram both efforts under the same creative umbrella.
Much of the humor in “Office Space” humor comes from the same place as “Beavis and Butthead,” especially the duo's big screen episode, “Beavis and Butthead Do America.” Watching the interplay between socially retarded morons and exasperated individuals with common sense is funny; it's the foundation for much of Judge's comedy. »

Stretching a brief comedy sketch into an 80-plus minute feature is not a task for the timid, as the process of fleshing out quick, self-contained bits is rife with inherent risks -- the two main ones being that such an endeavor usually makes little sense and can spoil the original joke. Yet despite these pitfalls, a select few have succeeded where so many others fail, managing to retain the core aspects of their source material while creating developed narratives that expand upon their original conceits in ways that are smart and silly. While only two of the below five might actually qualify as "classic" (though feel free to argue otherwise), our choices for the five best films born from TV sketches all show a willingness to push boundaries and indulge in random flights of fancy in the service of goofy humor, a daring that can be attributed to inspired comedians recognizing, »

I am soooo addicted to the latest series of Entourage which is currently playing out on ITV2 in the UK, and on HBO in the States. The last season of the hit show, the one where it all seems to go wrong for Vinnie Chase, is hitting UK DVD shores next month, and we have the info!
Click on past the jump to get more info on the release, which shores on the 14th September.
Packed with the glitz and glamour of Tinstletown this DVD marks your VIP pass to the world of Vince Chase, a hot young actor in modern-day Hollywood and his entourage. Loosely based on the life of Mark Wahlberg and drawing on the experiences of industry insiders, the series hilariously illustrates both the heady excesses of today's celebrity lifestyle, as well as the difficulty of finding love and success in the fast track of showbiz. On tonight's episode of Entourage, Vince (Adrian Grenier) tries to search for ways to amuse himself after finding out that production on his next film is delayed. Meanwhile, Andrew (Gary Cole) finally heeds Ari's (Jeremy Piven) advice to break it up with Lizzie. When he tells Ari, however, he's still a little suspicious so he has Lloyd (Rex Lee) keep an eye on him anyway.
Elsewhere on "Running on E," Drama (Kevin Dillon) auditions actresses to play his new love interest on "Five Towns," while Jamie-Lynn takes Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) shopping for back-to-school clothes (he announced his plan to go to business school in the last episode), while a bored E (Kevin Connolly) is still unsure of how to react on things.

HBO's Entourage returned this week and was consistently awesome. I'm convinced that Entourage will never die, it is just too cool for death. The premiere kicked off a bunch of new threads withe the Entourage getting pulled in all sorts of directions. Eric is thinking of moving out, everybody's wondering why Drama even has his own house since he's always at Vince's, and Vince has a big premiere and needs his license for a new movie. Llyod is determined to get a promotion, and Ari is prepared to put him through weeks and weeks of hazing to get it. Sadistic douche. Now here is a look at the episodes coming up next month.

The star of the A&E series and the real-life inspiration for the show talk about the show's new season
With basic cable networks getting into the swing of original programming, like AMC and its dual powerhouse shows of Breaking Bad and Mad Men, the A&E Network figured it was time to get back into the original programming business. Last year, A&E debuted The Cleaner, the network's first original series in over six years. This powerful series, which stars Benjamin Bratt, struck a chord with viewers and AMC brought the series back for a second season, which just kicked off on Tuesday, July 23 at 10 Pm on A&E. One of the reasons the show was brought back was the frank manner in which the series approaches substance abuse.

Benjamin Bratt is looking forward to do some 'cleaning up' tonight when the second season of "The Cleaner" premieres on A&E. From sweeping the streets from any kind of addicts to assisting high profile individuals to do a recovery, Bratt's character William Banks will face one of his toughest challenges in the season opener.
In "Hello America", an old friend Michelle Durham seeks William's help to get her high-profile national news anchor husband Davis, clean. But the news anchor is a national spokesperson for recovery, so William has to be especially discrete in his methods. And the news anchor's wife has an illness that forces William to confront his own personal problems.
Michelle is portrayed by Jayne Brook while Davis is played by Gary Cole. But they are not the sole attractions for this season. The show brings back Whoopi Goldberg as William's sponsor for three episodes and lines up other prominent actors. »

Benjamin Bratt is back this month as “The Cleaner,” William Boyd – an extreme interventionist brought in when family members have done everything they can do to get a loved one off drugs and/or booze. He’ll get you clean, or kill you. It’s that simple. Okay, maybe it isn’t – but it sure seems that way sometimes. Bratt’s interpretation of Boyd is a man with unflinching dedication to his craft, approaching every case with purpose – a purpose that is, perhaps, reinforced by the shrieking of his own demons from the past. It’s a drive that is intense, sometimes exruciating to watch, occasionally life altering, and always entertaining.
Here’s the lowdown on the first episode of The Cleaner season 2:

Despite the recession, "Entourage" is not planning a shortage of guest stars when it enters the sixth season next month. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Letscher, William Fichtner and Scott Caan will be involved in a multi-episode arc.
Letscher plays a character named Dan Coakley who is described as handsome but arrogant TV studio executive who oversees Johnny Drama's TV series. The actor may be familiar as Nathan Stone on ABC's "Eli Stone" before the show got canceled.
Meanwhile, Fichtner aka the Alexander Mahone of "Prison Break", will play a slick TV producer named Phil Yagoda. His character had a hit teen series in the 1990s and is trying to remake it with Drama.
For Caan, this would be one of his early TV appearances. The actor who is known to play Turk Malloy in "Ocean's Eleven" and its two sequels, will take the role of Scotty Lavin. Scotty »
