Previously: Review: 'Masters of Sex' Season 3, Episode 9, 'High Anxiety': Placebo Effects The Syllabus When sex surrogate-in-training Lester Linden (Kevin Christy) finally balks, confessing that he only volunteered for the program to make his wife jealous, "Masters of Sex" once again finds itself at the frontier beyond which science cannot reach. Virginia (Lizzy Caplan), an opponent of the project from the start, complains to Bill (Michael Sheen) that there's no accounting for the emotional states or ulterior motives of their subjects -- and, by extension, of themselves, always papering over the true nature of their relationship with allusions to "the work." "We are attempting to conduct an experiment with an infinite number of variables and without any controls," she says. "It's chaos, Bill." Coming near the end of a season that's occasionally been lost in the wilderness, Virginia's mention of method functions as...

Previously: Review: 'Masters of Sex' Season 3, Episode 4: The Anxiety of 'Undue Influence' The Syllabus Midway through "Matters of Gravity" -- funny, poignant, sexy, poetic "Matters of Gravity" -- Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) and Dan Logan (Josh Charles) conduct an experiment with Betty Dimello (Annaleigh Ashford) and Lester Linden (Kevin Christy). As electrodes measure the beat of Lester's heart, he identifies in one fragrance hints of attraction, memories of rejection, notes of defeat. "Is failure an emotion?" Lester asks, when tasked with describing how the scent makes him feel. "That would be my emotional response to this." It's a tossed-off line from a secondary character, petering out before the period in an attempt at comic relief, but Lester's response to the scent echoes the central thrust of tonight's tightly focused episode. "Matters of Gravity," to wit, is a chronicle of failure:...

One of Masters Of Sex‘s favorite couples is back. Heléne Yorke, who recurred heavily on Season 1, is returning for the upcoming third season of the period drama. Yorke plays Jane Martin, the seemingly unassuming hospital secretary who became Virginia Johnson’s (Lizzy Caplan) first major recruit for her sex study with Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen). Jane went on to star in the video footage for the study, earning the affection of the aspiring filmmaker hired to shoot it, Lester (Kevin Christy). The duo’s quirky chemistry and budding romance were a highlight of Masters Of Sex‘s first season but that was shelved in Season 2 because Yorke was unavailable, co-starring in Bullets Over Broadway on stage. (Yorke only appeared in the second season premiere.) Back then, Masters Of Sex creator/executive producer Michelle Ashford said that the producers would try to bring Yorke back when possible, maybe in...

Masters of Sex Season 2, Episode 8, “Mirror, Mirror”
Written by Steve Levenson
Directed by Michael Apted
Masters of Sex, Season 2, Episode 9, “Story of My Life”
Written by Amy Lippman
Directed by Jeremy Webb
Airs Sundays at 10pm (Et) on Showtime
This season of Masters of Sex appears to be shaping up to be more like two mini-seasons aired consecutively. The first six episodes had Masters, Johnson, and their sex study bouncing willy-nilly between different hospitals. There was a minorly conclusive note at the midway point, with Lillian dying, Libby settling her feud with Coral by firing her, Bill and Gini getting kicked out of Buell Green, and Betty’s marriage collapsing. The back half has seen the study finally settled into a home with the opening of its own clinic, and new characters have been introduced (along with a few old ones not seen since season 1 coming back). This show is...

After the exceptional time-propelling hour of last week’s Masters of Sex, Showtime’s drama was pointing in a brand new direction, as if it had started a brand new season. Well, it turns out the sophomore year of the prestigious period drama is still inconsistent, with great scenes improving messy episodes and messy subplots dragging down great hours. “Mirror, Mirror” is not a bad hour of Masters of Sex at all, but it feels weightless and of little consequence. With acting this superb and characters this absorbing, it should be hard to completely discredit the episode; however, many of the plots are not as fulfilled as they could be.
Masters of Sex is not quite up to the level of Mad Men’s exceptional pacing and storytelling. While the AMC drama usually lets its historical framework create an atmosphere and spirit that shifts the direction of the story in subtle ways,...

Well, that was the best season premiere of any television series in quite some time – except that it was not quite at the beginning of the season.
“Asterion,” the seventh chapter in this 12-episode season of Masters of Sex, felt like a rejuvenation of the show’s solid, but frustratingly inconsistent season. Last week’s episode, the finest thus far this year, brought some big storylines to a head – Bill and Virginia kissing in the hotel room, DePaul meeting her fate, an argument between Betty and Gene – but little of those matter in this most recent hour. From the start, we skip the chipper opening credit sequence and jump five months later. By the episode’s end, we are another two years ahead.
Remember how Breaking Bad was meticulously paced over its first five-and-a-half seasons and then during “Gliding Over All,” the mid-season finale of its fifth season, it surged ahead with a time jump?...

House Season 8 “We Needs the Eggs” Promo Images
Fox’s House is creeping toward its season and series finale, indeed House himself Hugh Laurie has been talking (to us, the fans, directly) about it, but we do have episodes to get to before that, one of them being April 16th’s “We Need the Eggs” which offers shots of the aforementioned Laurie with Karolina Wydra’s (who is officially one of my 2012 girls) Dominika, as well as episode guest star Kevin Christy.
House fans, while apparently not scheduled to get any closure with Lisa Edelstein‘s Dr. Cuddy, will be seeing Thirteen played by the always lovely (but not always popular with House fans) Olivia Wilde when the series finale comes around in May. Enjoy the gallery below!
House “We Need the Eggs” Episode Summary - House and the team take on the case of a man who starts tearing blood.

ABC's Happy Endings has aired four episodes just since last week on ABC. But people can't seem to get enough of the instantly adorable gay character Max, (played by the instantly adorable Adam Pally).
We've got preview pics from the May 4th episode, "Of Mice & Jazz-Kwon-Do," in which Max has to deal with pal Brad (Damon Wayans, Jr.)'s attempt at a fix-up. Here's the episode synopsis:
Brad tries to fix Max up with a guy from work, but Max is anything but grateful; Penny regrets inviting super competitive Jane along to her martial arts class; and everyone thinks that Dave hanging out to help Alex with odd jobs means that he's pining for his ex ... What he's actually longing for is his comfortable old digs as he tries to adjust to living in Max's dicey apartment.
Max's fix-up is played by actor/comedian Kevin Christy, who bears a slight resemblance to Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

To no surprise to anyone, NBC has cancelled quarterlife after a single episode on the air.
The series was conceived by Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick, the creative team behind shows like thirtysomething, Once and Again, and My So-Called Life. The show follows the life of online writer Dylan Krieger (Bitsie Tulloch) and her friends. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Christy, Scott Michael Foster, Michelle Lombardo, Maite Schwartz, Barrett Swatek, and David Walton.
The quarterlife series began as a group of eight-minute episodes that debuted online via MySpace.com. During the writers strike, NBC made a deal to group several segments together and run them in primetime as hour-long episodes.
The series kicked off on NBC with a special preview episode on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, few cared or watched -- quarterlife attracted a dismal 3.1 million viewers and a 1.3 rating/4 share with the 18-49 demographic. This represents a 17-year...

Oxygen has picked up the comedy pilot My Best Friend Is a Big Fat Slut to series. The project, from Oxygen co-founder Carsey-Werner-Mandabach, marks the cable channel's first original scripted series and CWM's first cable series. The female-skewing network has ordered eight episodes of the show (formerly My Roommate Is a Big Fat Slut), including the pilot, for an April premiere. "This series is everything that we love; it's edgy, young and outrageous," Oxygen president of programming Debby Beece said. "Carsey-Werner-Mandabach are the masters of the situation comedy, and we are delighted to make a home for their newest venture in primetime on Oxygen." Big Fat Slut, from writer Claudia Lonow (ABC's Less Than Perfect), chronicles the lives and loves of Jane (Joy Gohring) and Marjorie (Bree Turner), two twentysomething Minnesota transplants to Los Angeles who are pursuing the glamorous Hollywood life. "Claudia has captured a tone which depicts modern single people of today," CWM's Caryn Mandabach said. "We like to think of it as 'Friends' uncensored. It's funny, relatable -- and did we say funny?" The Big Fat Slut cast also includes Brent King, Kevin Christy and Nicole Hiltz.
