[With Snitch coming to DVD and Blu-ray this week, here's a repost of Catherina's review from the films American theatrical debut - Phil]
I’m pretty sure most of you reading this review have an unexplainable dislike of Lifetime movies – you’re forced to watch it because your parents, spouse, anyone has put it on and you can’t complain, yet somehow you’re still intrigued. Well that’s exactly what Snitch is.
Snitch stars Dwayne Johnson as construction company owner John Matthews, Jon Bernthal (that’s Shane from The Walking Dead for you zombie addicts) as former narcotics criminal Daniel James, Susan Sarandon as District Attorney Joanne Keeghan, and Barry Pepper as Agent Cooper. The story is based on real life events surrounding a boy who was framed into drug possession by his best friend. The story goes on to show the choices the boy’s father makes in...

Chicago – “Snitch” is so close to being a movie that works. Dwayne Johnson shows more dramatic range than he ever has before, Jon Bernthal proves he can be a strong supporting actor, and the film’s true story sheds interesting light on the stupidity of mandatory drug sentencing. Why then is “Snitch” so flat? It’s a film with good ideas and performances but none of the grit, dread, or danger needed for its crime saga to be effective.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
Johnson finds a grounded understatement that other actors would have missed as a man forced into the drug underworld when his son is set-up to take a fall. If Johnson’s heroic pop can bring in a bigger fish, the government, represented by a miscast Susan Sarandon, will let his kid go. A strong supporting cast is filled out by Barry Pepper, Benjamin Bratt, Nadine Velazquez, and Michael K. Williams.

Summit Entertainment (a division of Lionsgate) has announced the latest Dwayne Johnson action film Snitch for Blu-Ray in June. The film also stars Susan Sarandon and Jon Bernthal.
Snitch is a troubling movie, because Summit decided to market the latest Ric Roman Waugh film as an action film starring Dwayne Johnson, when in reality it’s a slow drama about the prison system. Because of this confusing advertising Snitch falls flat on its face.
There’s not enough action to hold anyone’s attention for longer than ten minutes and the drama isn’t nearly compelling enough, because Ric Roman Waugh fills the film with one-dimensional characters, while Johnson gives it his all to deliver a performance that’s sincere and motivated.
Sadly Johnson still doesn’t have the chops as an actor that doesn’t make a living beating the shit out of people on-screen, but he’s certainly...
