Jane Charles is an award-winning film and television producer, based in Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC.
Jane's feature film, SOLD (based on the National Book Award finalist novel by Patricia McCormick) shot in India and Nepal with Oscar-winning Director Jeffrey D. Brown and Executive Producer Emma Thompson, won 4 audience awards and 3 jury awards at international film festivals and generated a global movement to end child trafficking.
Her father, Nick Charles, was a restaurateur and proprietor of The Charles House, a hot spot in Albany NY in the early 1960's, often hosting dances and live music events including Liberace. Later in life, he was the manager of Wolferts Roost Country Club until his death in 1976. Jane attributes her love of film and TV to her mother, Barbara Wilson Charles, a dancer turned Registered Nurse who once danced with Bobby Darin in NY and loved to watch classic films. While living in Upstate NY, Jane often ventured to New York City to see plays and musical theater, before packing up her Honda Civic hatchback and driving cross country to Los Angeles where she spent 3 years before relocating to Vancouver BC, just as the city began to grow as a film and TV hub.
Jane began her career in production on the original TV series 21 Jump Street, Booker, Wise Guy, Murphy's Law, Neon Rider and the feature films Bird On A Wire (Goldie Hawn, Mel Gibson), Run (Patrick Dempsey, Kelly Preston), and Pure Luck (Danny Glover and Martin Short), as well as TV movies, music videos with Harry Connick Jr., Sting, Our Lady Peace and Cannes Lion-winning commercials.
As creative catalyst and producer, Jane continues to guide many projects from concept to delivery including the feature films Cyberteens In Love, Once In a Blue Moon, Fat Kid Rules the World, Ira Finkelstein's Christmas, Grassroots, SOLD, Five Dollar Cover, East of the Mountains with Tom Skerritt and Mira Sorvino (based on the award-winning novel by David Guterson) and the Ruby Landry series of movies for Lifetime. She is producer/partner on the Fezziwig Studios/Netflix Independent feature film Rescued by Ruby with producing partner Dan Angel, Director Katt Shea, Cinematographer David Bercovici-Artieda, and featuring Grant Gustin, Scott Wolf and Kaylah Zander.
