Christian Bale has proven over the years that he's willing to do some pretty horrible stuff to his own body for the sake of acting. More than nearly any other actor, Bale has been known to make some radical body transformations for his various roles. He's been an Adonis-like specimen at peak physical condition for Christopher Nolan's "Batman" trilogy, but he's also been borderline emaciated for roles like his in "The Fighter." While what Bale does to himself is definitely not healthy, in some ways I admire his self-destructive dedication to his craft.
Even knowing Bale has taken on more vastly different physical forms than Jaqen H'ghar, his casting as former vice president Dick Cheney in the 2018 Adam McKay joint, "Vice," took a lot of people off-guard. When people speculated who'd be portraying Cheney, Bale wasn't exactly on anybody's shortlist. His casting was shocking, as he didn't exactly fit...

Though this last election brought out a real conglomerate of whacky and downright insane political figures, we forget that these kinds of inexplicable folks have been around forever. One of those figures is the infamous Dick Cheney, a man who has been the subject of so many unflattering stories that shooting his friend in the face seems like the least worrisome. Well now the larger-than-life figure is getting the... Read More...

The Oscar-nominated director of The Big Short will stay in the realm of current affairs and reunite with Paramount Pictures and Plan B on his next directorial outing.
McKay is lining up to direct the untitled Dick Cheney project and according to Deadline Hollywood, which broke the story on Tuesday, is aiming to start production next spring in time for a late 2017 release.
The writer-director and his Gary Sanchez partners Will Ferrell and Kevin Messick will produce alongside Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B.
It is understood McKay is keen to explore what drove the former Halliburton CEO who served in several Republican administrations, culminating in his often vilified vice-presidency under George W Bush.
McKay is also directing the media mogul pilot Succession for HBO, and is writing Jennifer Lawrence starrer Bad Blood for Legendary Pictures and Universal, a feature he will direct about the blood testing scandal that engulfed the company Theranos...

Given that his most recent film, The Big Short, was met with such impressive critical acclaim – not to mention Academy Award nominations and wins – it is unsurprising that Oscar winning filmmaker Adam McKay is keen to push on with projects that carry more weight than, say, Step Brothers. With that in mind, he has written a new feature length drama script about former U.S Vice President Dick Cheney, and will be directing it for Paramount Pictures.
Following comments from McKay about the project, it seems likely that the film will take a fairly in-depth look at the whole career of Dick Cheney – as opposed to the very limited snapshot of the man that appeared in 2008’s W.
“I’ve always found Cheney fascinating. Questions of what drove him, what his beliefs were; but once we started digging I was astounded at how much he had shaped modern America’s...

From Deadline comes the news that Adam McKay is currently casting a biopic of America’s most powerful and least popular vice president, Dick Cheney, McKay—who recently made the leap from improv-heavy Will Ferrell movies to Oscar-winning live-action Vox explainers with The Big Short—also has a project called Bad Blood lined up with Jennifer Lawrence, but it’s unclear whether that’s going on the back burner while he readies the as-of-yet-untitled project. (Unfortunately, Dick is already taken.)
Really, he’s just trying to keep ahead of the curve as America begins to pine for the simpler times of the George W. Bush administration. Sure, the presidency was effectively controlled by a secretive wannabe autocrat with business-related conflicts of interest, but at least nobody liked him—except, apparently, the appointed senior counselor of the President-elect.

Filmmaker Adam McKay will direct a new movie he wrote about former vice president Dick Cheney, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie will track Cheney's transition from CEO of oil conglomerate Halliburton to vice president in George W. Bush's White House. During his time as VP, Cheney notoriously exercised incredible sway, advocating for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq alongside "enhanced interrogation techniques" such as waterboarding. Prior to his stint at Halliburton, Cheney worked in the Nixon, Ford and George H.W. Bush administrations, and served as the representative for Wyoming's at-large district.

It’s been pretty remarkable to see Adam McKay —best known for “Step Brothers” and “Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy“— pivot into a career as a filmmaker with more serious issues on his mind. “The Big Short” is a tremendous calling card in that respect, earning five Oscar nominations and winning McKay one for Best Adapted Screenplay. Ever since, he’s seen a few projects pile up, including “Bad Blood” with Jennifer Lawrence attached, and the comic book adaptation “Irredeemable.” But it seems that once again McKay is taking aim at issues of considerable import.

If you’ve ever wondered who would watch Star Wars and say to themselves, “hey, that Darth Vader guy is all right,” that question now has an answer. And it’s an obvious one: Steve Bannon, of course. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published just this afternoon, Bannon—Donald Trump’s third campaign manager who is now being proposed for the position of chief strategist for the incoming administration—names some of his political role models, and they’re right out of an episode of South Park.
Sitting inside the earthbound Death Star that is apparently Trump Tower on the day The New York Times described as “disarray” for the Trump team, Bannon was asked how he felt about his reputation as a liberal boogeyman. After searching his feelings, Bannon replied:

Desierto is a dirty, ugly thriller that muffles any possible moral quandaries in Jonás Cuarón’s border-crossing most dangerous game. Job-snatching paranoia clashes with impoverished dreams in a bloody, brutal landscape kissed by a searing desert sun, only to completely abandon tonal grittiness once tensions reach a climax.
Characters swirl a mix of emotions both from behind and in front of a high-powered hunting rifle, only to flip-flop loosely in the face of death. Cuarón’s visual and physical impact is not without power – gunshots ring and bullets strike bodies with wincing force – but a lack of character development shorts cinematic impact. Two “classes” of human are simply trying to survive, and we watch them die. Welcome to the grotesqueness of super right-wing fears come to life, something like Dick Cheney’s most vivid fever-dream.

War Dogs, not unlike The Big Short, attempts to make entertainment out of outrageous, behind-the-scenes sausage-making that ultimately had an impact on the American economy. While Todd Phillips‘ film is not as insightful as Adam McKay’s picture, it’s a good time, even if it remains somewhat politically neutral. The boys get rich off of a war they oppose while praising Dick Cheney’s America for making it happen.
Miles Teller stars as David Packouz, a massage therapist living in Miami with pregnant finance Iz (Ana de Armas). At a funeral he crosses paths with his middle school pal Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill), a shape-shifter who is whomever you want him to be while he’s standing right in front of you. Fighting for small crumbs on a government bidding site designed to even the playing field, David and Efraim make small arms deals until one appears they can’t resist.

It didn’t need to bill itself as such on its poster: War Dogs is obviously a movie about the modern, sad version of the American Dream. If you’ve ever been to a cinema you’ve encountered this rags to prison jumpsuit story a hundred times over. Yet director Todd Phillips’ (of The Hangover fame) first foray into more serious fare, for all its obvious derivativeness, somehow acquits itself decently. Yes, the movie showcases the immaturity of its characters alongside that of its director’s abilities in this field. But the formula works because this sort of tale is so gripping and thanks to the solid performances by its talented young stars, Miles Teller and Jonah Hill.
Teller is David Packouz, a young man who, like many in our modern bumbling economy, finds himself adrift in a dead-end job and no prospects at prosperity. Packouz (a real life character...

[[tmz:video id="0_fsizot0l"]] Dick Cheney's life is radically different from his days as Vice President ... for starters he's behind the wheel of his own car, unable to get through a police barricade protecting someone who's currently important. We got the former Veep in D.C.'s Dupont Circle, where he was trying to pick someone up at a nearby medical facility. Btw ... he's driving a Lexus ... decidedly un-American. Read more...

Scalia's son Paul delivered the sermon at the funeral mass, CNN reports, and gave a heartfelt eulogy for his father. "God blessed Dad, as it's well known, with a love for his country," Paul said. "He knew well what a close-run thing the founding of our nation was. And he saw in that founding, as did the founders themselves, a blessing. A blessing quickly lost...

Dick Cheney had strong words for Donald Trump on Monday, saying the presidential candidate is a “liberal Democrat” who has no idea what he’s talking about. “He sounds like a liberal Democrat to me,” the former vice president told Fox News anchor Bret Baier. “He’s wrong and he’s, I think, deliberately promoting those views in order to advance his political interests.” During Saturday’s debate, Trump rattled Republcians when he suggested that President George W. Bush directly lied to the American public in order to overthrow Saddam Hussein. “I will tell you. They lied. And they said...

Richard Dreyfuss was able to see some redemption for infamous fraud mastermind Bernie Madoff – but he doesn't give that benefit of the doubt to all his characters.
During his appearance on Good Morning America Wednesday, Dreyfuss was quick to qualify that his eponymous character in the new ABC miniseries is "the second most despicable man [in modern history] because I've already played Dick Cheney."
That zing aside, Dreyfuss gave insights on his process of channeling Madoff – and the surprising empathy he gained for the imprisoned fraudster, now 77, who orchestrated the largest Ponzi scheme ever by an individual and is currently serving a 150-year prison sentence.

Batman Is The World’S Greatest Defective
For a man billed as “the world’s greatest detective,” Batman really sucks at his job.
Understand, by detective I don’t mean the guy who sneaks through the bushes to snap photographs of the secret meetings of some modern day Tryst-an and Isolde. I mean a guy who investigates, seeks out clues, and uses deductive reasoning to arrest criminals. A police detective.
The New 52 Batman does precious little clue seeking and thinks deductions are best left to H & R Block. Mostly he beats information out of lowlifes or threatens to drop them off buildings unless they tell him what he wants to know. He’s not so much Dick Tracy as he is Dick Cheney.
In the pre-New 52 continuity Batman had two great mysteries, who killed his parents and Joker’s real name. However, in Batman: The Dark Knight v 2 #0, Bruce Wayne...

Donald Trump took his Ban The Muslims message (see announcement below) on a tour of the morning news shows today, while hosts of those programs tried to get in a word edgewise as they grabbed at the tops of their heads to keep them from flying off. "Something has to be done," Gop front-runner Trump told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America of his plan, which most, but not all, his fellow Gop candidates (and even Dick Cheney) have condemned. "What I’m…...

Lin-Manuel Miranda stopped by Friday's Tonight Show to discuss Hamilton, his Broadway musical that has a diverse cast performing hip-hop about American history and has left all of Hollywood clamoring for tickets. Miranda first outlined the eventful life of Alexander Hamilton, the founding father who was an immigrant, established the country's treasury and was killed by fellow politician Aaron Burr in a duel. "The vice president shot him! Dick Cheney was not the first VP to shoot his friend!" he joked to Jimmy Fallon. The Hamilton creator and star, who recorded Fallon's outgoing voicemail message, then discussed the

When first we checked in on Furious 8's search for a director, Universal was wary of Vin Diesel taking the job himself. And when we last checked in, Diesel was promising to reveal the choice on his Facebook page, leading to fears that he would indeed pull a Dick Cheney. Now THR reports that's unlikely to be the case, as the studio has landed on Straight Outta Compton's F. Gary Gray for the gig. Gray was one of three filmmakers short-listed for the job alongside The Transporter's Louis Leterrier and You're Next's Adam Wingard; his filmography also includes A Man Apart with Vin Diesel and The Italian Job with Jason Statham. It's like he was part of the family already. It's official, kids: This post has been updated throughout.

We know Dick Cheney loves him some Bush, but he's not dismissing the possibility of flipping to Team Trump ... not yet, anyway. When W's VP arrived at Lax on Tuesday we asked if he'd throw his cowboy hat in the ring for a gig with Donald Trump ... If he wins the nomination. Check out Dick's reaction -- at first he waves it off, as if there's no chance, but then he goes into what he's looking for from Trump,...

Welcome to the tenth installment of our summer trip through "The Sopranos" season 1. When I revisited early seasons of "The Wire," as well as the whole run of "Deadwood," I did separate versions of each review for newcomers and veterans, but over time realized that the newcomers weren't commenting much, if at all, and that it therefore made sense to simply do one review. Any significant spoilers for episodes beyond the one being reviewed will be contained in a separate section at the end of the review; so long as you avoid that, and the comments, you should be fine. Thoughts on the tenth episode, “A Hit Is a Hit," coming up just as soon I've recorded in Denmark... The former "Bachelorette" contestant was involved in a nightclub brawl in early 2012 when he fought with a man named Richard Chaney at a bar in Fresno. He also reportedly hit Chaney's girlfriend when she tried to break up the fight.
