Michelle Obama's second memoir has arrived. "The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times" outlines the "habits and principles [Obama] has developed to successfully adapt to change and overcome various obstacles - the earned wisdom that helps her continue to 'become,'" per its description on Penguin Random House. Some of these habits include "'starting kind,' 'going high,' and assembling a 'kitchen table' of trusted friends and mentors" - and all are testaments to Obama's hard-won wisdom and compassionate nature.
Per a review in The New York Times, "Each chapter is a tool, as Obama puts it, to help keep yourself together. Her thoughts are nuanced and never prescriptive; she tells stories about what has worked for her." The book is meant to promote resiliency and positive change, and as Obama herself writes, "My goal was always to do serious work in a joyful way,...

After announcing which new shows would be added to its schedule for the upcoming TV season, CBS has also renewed four additional series.
The news broke during the annual network upfronts presentation in New York City, with reports surfacing that freshman dramas "Code Black" and "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" will be be back for sophomore seasons next year. Long-running reality series "Undercover Boss" has also been renewed for an eighth season.
Despite so-so ratings, Matthew Perry comedy "The Odd Couple" will also be back, securing a season three renewal. That means that CBS will have two former "Friends" stars on its airwaves next year, following the pickup of Matt LeBlanc sitcom "Man With a Plan."
There's no word yet about the fate of freshman series "Limitless" and "Rush Hour," which are currently on the renewal bubble, though TVLine reports that "Limitless" has a better shot than its fellow based-on-a-movie show.

Hot off the heels of Parenthood, Peter Krause is right back in the thick of things, this time with Mireille Enos, who is herself taking on rather a different role from her time on The Killing.
Selling itself as being “From the producers of Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder,” because they want you to think Shonda Rhimes, without actually saying it, The Catch hopes to capitalize on the Thursday night schedule, but is nevertheless a very different creature… largely just by virtue of being a pretty good show.
The show’s trailer gives you a fair idea of what you have coming your way, and more or less “spoils” the pilot, but it doesn’t give you much to go on when it comes to the week-by-week continuation of the story, and that may be one of the show’s best moves.

Fillion developed a devoted fan following, while starring in Joss Whedon's Firefly -- cancelled by Fox, in its first season. The relationship between his character, novelist Richard Castle, and Katic's NYPD Captain, Kate Beckett, has been heavily featured throughout Castle's run. I’m a huge Chris Tucker fan. Always have been.
From his scene-stealing performance in The Fifth Element, to Russell Simmons’ HBO Def Comedy Jam and 1995’s Friday opposite Ice Cube, starring in Money Talks with Charlie Sheen, through to his role in Silver Linings Playbook, Tucker is forever a pleasure to watch and is still one of the funniest comedians.
I was thrilled to read that the actor would be headlining his first full length stand-up comedy special titled “Chris Tucker Live” which had its premiere on Friday, July 10 on Netflix. It is one of the funniest stand-up shows to come along in years.
In the hilarious show, Chris Tucker returns to the stage he loves and showcases his mind-blowing comedic chops. From his pitch perfect impersonations of Michael Jackson and Bill Clinton, his take on first dates and marriage, visiting Oprah Winfrey’s house, to his singular on-stage physicality,...

Here’s the synopsis for the show’s return:
While Emily’s mysterious blackouts threaten everything and everyone she holds dear, Victoria confronts two formidable ghosts from her past.
As you can see from these preview pics, one of those ghosts is Patrick’s biological father, the man who raped her all those years ago. But what’s going on here? ABC just released the first pics from the first episode of the new season of Brothers & Sisters. Here is the episode description for "The Homecoming:"
It's been a year since the Walker family was torn apart by a tragic car accident, and in a very un-Walker like fashion, everyone has been avoiding everyone else. Truths and reality only start to set in when the family is forced to come together for Justin's homecoming party: Nora tries to prepare for the party, but is not acting like the mother she used to be; Sarah is consumed with the Narrow Lake deal; Kevin has a new career as public defense attorney; Saul and Scotty are running their restaurant; and Kitty's life has become a taboo subject for everyone. Time has changed the Walkers, on the fifth-season premiere of "Brothers & Sisters."

Chicago – CBS announced their fall schedule today. While fans of canceled “Accidentally on Purpose,” “Cold Case,” “Gary Unmarried,” “Numb3rs,” “The Ghost Whisperer,” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” may disagree, the big TV news of the week is that several of the top network’s biggest shows are moving. “Survivor” jumps to Wednesday nights, “The Big Bang Theory” moves to Thursdays, “CSI: NY” slides to Fridays, and “CSI: Miami” now goes down on Sundays.
As far as on-the-bubble renewals are concerned, CBS saved “Rules of Engagement” and “Medium”. The rest of their renewals were pretty obvious choices as the network continues to air many of the biggest hits on TV including the #1 drama (“NCIS”), #1 comedy (“Two and a Half Men”), #1 new series (“Undercover Boss”), #1 news magazine (“60 Minutes”), #1 new drama (“NCIS: Los Angeles”), and #1 scripted series for the 18-49 and 25-54 demos (“The Big Bang Theory”).

Perfect casting: Beverly D'Angelo as Busy Philipps' bad mom. The Sheila character called to mind Jan Hooks as Jane Krakowski's only-out-for-herself mom on 30 Rock, though I'm not sure Jenna's mom would have known "exactly the right place to punch a person to make them throw up." After all the familial drama ("mom dram"? can we make that happen?), Philipp's Laurie, who wants to be a grownup so bad, will finally move into her own condo (with a co-sign from Jules). Meanwhile, Barb and Travis had a big Norma Desmond subplot -- Travis' reaction upon seeing Barb after...

In 1974, a time when the Australian film industry seemed more concerned with creating whimsical Australian pictures, director Sandy Harbutt created one of the most uncompromising, violent and gritty portrayals of an Australian subculture with his bikie flick, Stone. Revered by many as a watershed moment in Australian cinema, the film is currently in line for a contemporary adaptation by Richard Cartwright. In adapting the film Cartwright wants to ensure he creates a film that will do the original justice. "We're going to stick with the gritty feeling that made the 1974 Stone such a powerful piece of cinema - it's going to be no-holds barred, that's for sure.

Scrubs is back on ABC tonight to start its 965th season. (Or is it just its ninth?) A lot has happened in the near decade since it first blew our minds with its snarky, rapid-fire dialogue, its hilariously random fantasy sequences, and its dexterous melding of comedy and pathos. Actually, what's mostly happened is that a lot of shows came along and did all that stuff, too, and Scrubs lost a bit of its mojo. But you have to admire a show that has soldiered on through countless timeslot changes and even a network change from NBC to ABC last year,...

For the record, Sarah Chalke has holiday spirit. She's expecting her first child, a son, on Christmas Day, and she's one of the stars of Disney Prep & Landing, the first Christmas special exec produced by John Lasseter for ABC (premieres Dec.1, at 8:30 p.m. Et, right before Chalke makes the first of four guest appearances on the new season of Scrubs). She voices Magee, the North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center Coordinator, who partners with jaded elf Wayne (The Kids in the Hall's Dave Foley) with an idealistic rookie partner Lanny (Men in Trees' Derek Richardson). Hilarity...

Got a scoop request? An anonymous tip you’re dying to share? Just want to say hi? You can send any/all of the above to ausielloscoop@ew.com Question: Is Izzie really pregnant on Grey's Anatomy? —Elle Ausiello: I'll say this: ABC's promo gurus are very sneaky! While we're on the subject of Katherine Heigl, sources confirm to me exclusively that she's taking another leave of absence from Grey's — but this time her reasons are personal, not professional. Heigl will be going on a belated maternity leave to spend some Qt with new daughter Naleigh. As a result, Izzie...

Michael Slezak will be back next week with his regular Modern Family recap. But for this week's episode, "Run For Your Wife," we couldn't leave you hanging without at least celebrating the show's most hilarious lines. As with every week, I feel like there are so many that I could just cut and paste the entire script. But short of that, here are some of my personal faves: "June 21, found a stick. June 22, that's it."- Luke, reading from his journal "That's it?" -- Claire "It was a really cool stick." -- Luke "He's right, it looked like a snake.

Melrose Place's "fun and sexy" new makeover has a face — and it's a pretty one at that. Nick Zano, who's currently playing Courteney Cox's boy-toy on Cougar Town, is in talks to join The CW reboot as a pseudo-replacement for Colin Egglesfield's dark, brooding Auggie, sources confirm to me exclusively. Zano would be playing a doctor who works with Lauren (Stephanie Jacobsen) and Michael (Thomas Calabro) at Wilshire Memorial. In an interview last week, executive producer Todd Slavkin described the character as "irreverent and funny... He will move into the building. He doesn't take life very seriously.

Bad news for the Pritchett clan, good news for us: Phil isn't the only family member harboring an inappropriate crush on an in-law. Seriously, was there anything better on last night's dangerously funny installment of Modern Family than Cameron's overly enthusiastic admission (embedded below) about his attraction to Mitchell's dad Jay? "For the record, you're smokin' hot. One hundred percent. You're totally my type. You're dangerous. You're gettable. You have a little cashola in your pocket….the whole kit and kaboodle." In Cameron's defense, though, his overtures came from a very different (and sympathetic) place than Phil's manhandling of Gloria.

The Mercy West invasion began Thursday on Grey's Anatomy and it's safe to say that the Seattle Gracers did not put out the welcome mat. The transfers didn't exactly bring a hostess gift either. The competition was fierce, the backstabbing brutal and the episode intense, satisfying and full of Omg moments. Space Invaders: The Mercy West residents set up shop and things immediately started off on the wrong foot. Izzie threw down when one refused to vacate George's locker and labeled her crazy. The old staff hid, already beaten down, in Meredith's hospital room, convinced they were going to be forced to become coroners. In a role reversal, Meredith was the positive go-getter using an Aliens analogy as a pep talk: "This is our ship. We own this hospital. We were born in this hospital. Go get surgeries before they take them." Matters of the Heart: Even star pupil Yang,...

Last weekend's Equality March in Washington D.C. got me to thinking about how far we have — and haven't — come in the fight for gay equality. But since AfterElton.com focuses on pop culture, I'm going to look at things through that lens and leave the political analysis for Pam's House Blend, Americablog, Bilerico and the other assorted gay political websites that cover the topic.
One of the very first times American television addressed the subject of gay men (bisexuality was almost never addressed) was way back in 1954 when the L.A. based tabloid talk show Confidential File presented "Homosexuals and the Problems They Present." Hmm, I'm guessing it wasn't terribly flattering unless it was about how boring straight people looked in comparison to us 'mos.
San Francisco's public TV station did the first ever documentary, The Rejected in 1961 and it wasn't until 1967 that a television show first featured a gay storyline.

ABC's Cougar Town seems to be a hit with viewers, but it's also making waves with fashionistas, who wrote in to EW's Style Hunter to find out more about the styles from the show. Here, we have the answers to your burning questions! Jules (Courteney Cox Arquette) jumps back into the dating pool as a newly single mom in this purple Cynthia Steffe dress (bloomingdales.com; $221.25) that she wore on her date with her new squeeze, Josh. As you can see from the show, Jules is a big fan of dresses (i.e. Tory Burch, Black Halo). Why so many?...

Still reeling from the Chief's announcement about the merger last week, the entire staff of Seattle Grace doesn't feel safe and is going to great, and often misguided, lengths to secure jobs. Their misfortune is a treasure chest of quality Omg moments for fans. Child's Play: Yang feigned interest in pediatrics because Arizona's "merger-proof. She keeps little kids alive. No one likes a dead kid." She immediately found herself immersed in her own personal hell of bear lapel pins, funny voices, games and fetching pudding (the last of which she ate instead of giving it to her patient). She begged Owen to tell the Chief he needed her. "I need to be on the stays list. That list is my future, my salvation. The list is life." Only Yang would feel justified in quoting Schindler's List in this moment. She also requested Meredith use her "dead mommy connections to get answers.

Gregory Michael and Paul James (Photo: ABC Family/Richard Cartwright)
We wrote with poorly-veiled fanboy enthusiasm a while back that when guilty pleasure teen dramedy Greek returns this month, it will be bringing a fresh new love interest for Calvin, the show's openly gay fratboy (played by Paul James), and that interest would come in the form of Dante's Cove's Gregory Michael.
To be perfectly honest, I almost thought it was a joke or something, because to me the intersection of those two shows is beyond bizarre ... and this coming from someone who eats peanut butter and Miracle Whip sandwiches.
But now we've got proof!

As noted before, Michael's character is named Grant and he will arrive on June 1. In the meantime, we'll pass on more scoop as we hear it!
