That’s it — Sybil has officially gone too far this time!
New photos from The Vampire Diaries‘ Jan. 20 episode (The CW, 8/7c) find the gang reliving one of the show’s most iconic moments with a “who wore it better?” twist. This time around, it’s Sybil — not Elena — descending that grand staircase in a stunning blue dress. (And here I thought the Devil preferred red. Oh, well.)

3.4 The New Rogues
Oh, hello. Was the script for The New Rogues left over from season one? That's not a knock on it, by the way. I enjoyed the hell out of this episode. But it sure did take a lot out of that first season playbook, which is just fine.
Villain of the week episodes are unavoidable, and fortunately The Flash is uniquely suited to them, since Central City (and neighboring Keystone) boast...

3.3 Magenta
As season-long procedural set-ups go, having Barry change the timeline and a mysterious villain restore lost metahumans is a decent one – it's this year's version of the particle accelerator or Smallville's krypto-freak of the week. It might feel a bit clumsy or convenient, but I've always been a strong believer in 22-episode seasons modelling themselves after 90s television instead of the currently fashionable '10 hour movies or novels'.
Like it or not, The Flash needs to pad out its season in order to survive and...

The Flash season 3 premiere grounds Barry's journey back in the Wests and his friends, giving the show a much-needed shot in the arm...
This review contains spoilers.
3.1 Flashpoint
A lot of people were quite upset with Barry at the end of last season. Not only had he been at the head of a second season of The Flash that hadn't come close the heights of its first (I watched the finale again last night, believe me it was rough) but a series of increasingly bizarre events and character motivations led our hero to essentially wipe his friends and family out of existence in its final moments.
By going back and saving his mother from Eobard Thawne, which a year before he had chosen not to do, he created a brand new reality in which he had grown up with his biological parents, didn't know Iris or Cisco,...

The Flash has taken its fans in a big circle this year, as the repetitious season finale demonstrates...
This review contains spoilers.
2.23 The Race Of His Life
So, all of our complaints this year that the second season of The Flash was basically a rehash of the first? They're feeling pretty valid right about now. This finale didn't just use another speedster, other earths and a dead parent to motivate Barry, but it flat-out undid the emotional climax of the first season and used it as its cliffhanger.
(Before I go on – yes, I'm aware that this happens in the comics, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything for the show moving forwards).
This was, in many ways, the only finale we could have had following a disappointing second season of the show. There have been great things about season two, of course, but finales are designed to feature a big showdown and,...

Black Siren comes to Central City in a dreadful episode of The Flash season 2. Our Us chums step in to cover review duties...
This review contains spoilers.
2.22 Invincible
Alarm bells started ringing within seconds of "Invincible" kicking off. For one thing, the "metapocalypse" (which is an inexcusable word) didn't look all that intimidating. It looked less like Central City was under siege than it did a block or so in Vancouver. It was all downhill from there.
"Invincible" was so poorly written as to be completely baffling. What in the world was the point of "healing" Barry in "The Runaway Dinosaur" only to take everything away from him again an episode later? I was certain that Barry's bizarre, almost zen-like overconfidence was a mask for something deeper. When other characters started commenting on it, I figured it had to be a "Barry knows something we don't" situation.

Kevin Smith's episode of The Flash season 2 packed plenty of surprises, as well as being very good....
This review contains spoilers
2.21: The Runaway Dinosaur
So Barry's not dead. In the most unsurprising news of the televisual year, the titular star of The Flash has not perished, but has simply been spirited away to an alternate dimension. A little more surprising is that this alternate dimension has Barry conversing with the Speed Force taking on the form of his friends and family, and an even bigger surprise is that The Runaway Dinosaur is a very good episode.
That shock comes mainly from the fact that this season, while rarely being actively bad, hasn't had many standout hours. This episode was an event for a lot of people simply because Kevin Smith was on board to direct, but that's no guarantee of anything. However, Smith appears to...

After weeks of doubting whether The Flash was still capable of surprise, it delivers a great episode with a solid cliff-hanger...

2.20 Rupture
Well that's one way to end an episode of your most popular superhero show! Apparently we won't be watching The Flash from next week onwards, but rather Vibe and Friends: The New Adventures. Barry Allen is no more, he disintegrated, and there's absolutely no way out of this particular predicament.
Except of course that Barry's not really dead, but that doesn't really take away from the impact of those final ten minutes. After weeks of really doubting that this is a show that can surprise me anymore, it delivered a really good episode with a solid cliff-hanger that's not even close to the finale. Last year that wouldn't have been a particular surprise but, this year? It kinda is.

Is The Flash's Man in the Iron Mask reveal going to disappoint, or can the show still surprise its viewers? Here's our latest review...
This review contains spoilers.
2.19 Back To Normal
There are only four weeks until the second season finale of The Flash, and things aren't looking promising. Rather than giving us a reason to look forward to what's to come, the reveal of Jay as Zoom's real identity has completely deflated the show at a crucial moment in its season. Nothing makes sense, Zoom is no longer threatening and Jay isn't charismatic enough to be this year's Wells-equivalent.
My main problem with Back To Normal, predictably, was Caitlin. I'm obviously not thrilled that she's been kidnapped yet again, but I went over that last week, and the outcome of that cliffhanger not only takes an entire episode to become apparent but also means Zoom is an absolute idiot.

Does The Flash have a woman problem? On the basis of its latest episode, it would seem so...
This review contains spoilers.
Can we please talk about Caitlin Snow, and what a huge mess The Flash has made of her this season? It feels like a good time to do so, her being kidnapped again and all.
I'm starting to think that The Flash hates women and, with Arrow having gone through a similar problem since it premiered, that's really very sad. The show is so very good at so many things, but it's quite terrible at writing its female characters anything interesting, inoffensive or proactive to do. Caitlin is the most obvious victim of this, because I'd argue that Iris now is much improved from Iris a year ago.
No, Caitlin is continually shafted in Team Flash storylines, and her only function at this point seems...

Is anyone else detecting a little deja vu in The Flash season 2's recent twists and turns?
This review contains spoilers.
2.16 Trajectory
After the critical and fan success of The Flash's first season, it makes sense for the writers to simply repeat its structure for their second run. This time last year, we were dealing with the reveal that Wells, who may not in fact have been the real Wells, was a Black Hat hell-bent on destroying Barry. Now, we're doing the same thing with Jay Garrick, who may not in fact be the real Jay Garrick.
That's not a criticism at all, because it's different enough so as not to be obvious, and Zoom's an intriguing enough character on his own to justify the mystery.
I'm also pleasantly surprised that the gang has found out Zoom's identity so soon after we, the viewers,...

2.14 Escape From Earth-2
The Flash has a tendency to hide its big reveals in plain sight. Last year, Wells' identity had its surprises, sure, but it was by and large there in front of us the whole time. He appeared to be a bad guy working against Barry and the rest of Star Labs, and most of our theories turned out to be correct in the end.
This year, it's switched things around on us. Zoom is a complete mystery and, before this episode, there were no obviously suspicious people hanging around. Yet, with the introduction of Earth-2, suddenly the writers had a whole load of other characters to play with. Who is Zoom? I still have no clue, but...

The Flash goes multiverse mad in season 2's latest episode, which shows different versions of Barry, Iris, Joe and more...
This review contains spoilers.
2.13 Welcome To Earth-2
If we're judging The Flash by the standards of other television shows, which is honestly a foolish thing to do, the relatively swift introduction of the multiverse appeared at first to be a convenient cover for a lot of the time-travel shenanigans it was attempting to pull off.
Was it just a way for the show to have its cake and eat it - as with the death of Harrison Wells not actually leading to the absence of Harrison Wells – or a legitimate tactic to open up more storytelling opportunities?
Welcome to Earth-2 is where that question is answered, at least in terms of the current season. The Flash has always put fun and entertainment pretty far up its list of priorities and,...

Wells has been an unexpected highlight of The Flash season 2, almost mitigating the disappointment of a filler episode like this one...
This review contains spoilers.
2.12 Fast Lane
There's no rule saying that every episode of The Flash has to be a mini-blockbuster filled with big action set-pieces and emotional gut-punches, even if that's what we've grown accustomed to. When episodes like Fast Lane emerge, though, it's easy to feel shortchanged by a comparatively slow outing. But the show's allowed a week of filler, especially when it gets us to a place as exciting as this episode does.
A huge chunk of the episode was dedicated to my least favourite part of the show right now – Wally West. More specifically, Wally's speed racing habit and what Joe and Iris think about it. There's nothing wrong with exploring the new family dynamic and how Wally fits in with the existing West unit,...

Exciting, emotional, epic and intimate all at once, this week's episode of The Flash makes for brilliant telly...
This review contains spoilers.
2.11 The Reverse-Flash Returns
Barry isn't perfect, and that's one of the most charming things about The Flash. He's a hero, a good friend and generally pretty noble, but he's also immature on occasion, unable to let grievances go and reluctant to put people in danger. It's tempting, then, to call the show's tendency for keeping its female characters in the dark a quirk of Barry's, as this episode hammers home, but that's not the only thing perpetuating the trope.
Patty was designed from the start to fulfil the purpose she does here. She was always going to be the temporary girlfriend who forced Barry to question whether he can ever have a normal relationship.
But she was written too well, performed too winningly by Shantel VanSanten – we liked Patty,...

Barry Allen suffers from superhero-related romantic angst in the latest episode of The Flash, Potential Energy...
This review contains spoilers.
2.10 Potential Energy
The first season of The Flash was great, we can all probably agree, but there was one part that was almost universally detested. That part was Iris or, more specifically, the constant frustration of having Iris in the dark about everything else going on in the show.
In this episode, then, the show had a chance to rectify that mistake and have Barry tell Patty the truth. He's worried about her getting hurt, which makes a certain kind of sense, but she's also proven herself to be more than capable of taking care of herself. The fact that Potential Energy decides not to do this, but instead have her be kidnapped and prove Barry's neuroses correct, is hugely disappointing. That it also leads to Patty...

The Flash bows out for its mid-season two break on a high, proving that the show's second run hasn't dropped in quality from the first...
This review contains spoilers.
2.9 Running To Stand Still
It seems we can always rely on The Flash to deliver a great mid-season finale that's not just a brilliant instalment of the show, but also an unashamed Christmas episode with presents, Turkey and festive soul-searching for our viewing pleasure. I'd even be tempted to say that this, Running To Stand Still, was one of the strongest episodes the show has delivered so far this season, what with the effortless mix of campy villains, attention given to the relationships between characters and some nice forward momentum for the Zoom story thread.
We begin with Zoom running Wells down before wishing him a particularly threatening 'Merry Christmas', setting the tone for the rest of the...

The Flash is succeeding in staying fresh and interesting into season two, thanks to decent character work and a giant, telepathic gorilla...
This review contains spoilers.
2.7 Gorilla Warfare
At this point in our collective Flash-watching adventure, we're all kind of over the fact that there's a giant, telepathic, talking Gorilla in Central City. The ridiculous factor has passed, and we can just enjoy Grodd the same way we enjoy any other meta-human threat. But when you add Grodd to an episode where Henry Allen is also hanging around passing out platitudes, the cheese factor edges very close to the line.
Which, when looking at the big picture, was probably a good thing. Though we're quickly informed that Barry's injuries from his run-in with Zoom aren't actually going to keep him out of commission for too long, he's still confined to the lab for much of the episode,...

Over-delivering on the gnarly action and genuine peril, Enter Zoom was The Flash at its best...
This review contains spoilers.
2.6 Enter Zoom
Earlier this year, season one's Out Of Time, the fifteenth episode of The Flash's debut run, got a lot of praise for just how much like a finale it felt. Yet it was placed in what seemed like a random mid-March spot. Enter Zoom is not unlike that episode, and deserves maybe even more plaudits for airing so early in the season. It proves once again, as do most things this show does from week to week, that The Flash isn't interested in messing around.
Giving us everything what we want before we know we can have it is this series' thing, and so six weeks in, we have Zoom not only in play but already facing off with Barry. As action sequences go,...

The Flash returns to high expectations. Can its second season maintain the fun, action and drama of the first?
This review contains spoilers.
2.1 The Man Who Saved Central City
This year, The Flash is in the unenviable position of trying to capitalise on a first season that not only rose to the top of an increasingly dense pile of superhero television, but also surpassed its parent show over the course of 23 episodes. It was one of the undisputable winners of the 2014-15 season, and expectations are incredibly high.
Can it maintain the quality or, better still, build on it to become something not just fun, diverting and occasionally emotional but also something more? There’s always been potential for that, for it to be as much fun for a wide audience as it is for the hard-core comic book and television fans.
We start where we left off, with the fun,...

“About how long do we have before this evil engulfs the world?” Damon asks in the first official trailer for The Vampire Diaries‘ upcoming seventh season. “Just trying to plan my week.”

Enjoyable though it may be, Damon’s snark is pretty much the only familiar thing to be found in the trailer, which offers our first glimpse at a hellish, Heretic-run Mystic Falls. In fact, I think Caroline referring to Lily’s crew as “supernatural terrorists” pretty much says it all.

As TVLine noted after nominees were announced for the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, The CW’s The Flash scored a nod with its freshman run, for Outstanding Visual Effects.
That the speedster series sparked the interest of the Academy is no S.T.A.R. Labs-like accident, given the amount of thought and consideration put into every crackle of electricity, fiery frenemy and grunting gorilla.

When we left off in October 1965, all our characters were on the brink of life changing events: Don impulsively proposed to his secretary, Pete just had a baby, Joan is pregnant with Roger's baby and pretending it's Greg's, and Betty was moving into her "not perfect" new house with Henry and the kids. Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce was dealing with the fallout of Don's anti-tobacco ad and Cooper quit! With the 17 excruciating years months between the seasons, the shock of the finale sunk in and these changes became matter of fact as we waited with bated breath (and reruns) to see how far into the future we'd be launched and how it all turned out. Well, it's about nine months later on June 1, 1966 and lives carried on. The time gap is also somewhat synced up with us, season four ended in October of 2010 and it's starting up again in spring.
