The Gucci family has hit back at Ridley Scott’s soapy murder saga “House of Gucci” in a scathing statement outlining why they are “a bit disconcerted” over what they believe to be inaccuracies in the movie. The statement comes from the heirs of Aldo Gucci (played by Al Pacino in the film), who served as the chairman of the Gucci fashion house from 1953 through 1986.
“The production of the film did not bother to consult the heirs before describing Aldo Gucci — president of the company for 30 years [played by Al Pacino in the film] — and the members of the Gucci family as thugs, ignorant and insensitive to the world around them,” the statement said. (Via Variety.)
The statement claims that the movie rewrites history in terms of the protagonists and the course of events, in which Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) takes a hit out on her husband Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) amid their unraveling marriage. The family...

Tom Ford was a fast-rising designer in Milan in 1995, the year Maurizio Gucci was shot and killed in a hit job ordered by his estranged wife Patrizia. In Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci,” he’s played by Reeve Carney in a few scenes of the film, which of course meant Ford himself would inevitably watch. In a new essay for Air Mail, Ford aired out his grievances with the movie, which he felt missed the mark despite strong performances from Lady Gaga (as Patrizia) and Jeremy Irons.
“The shiny, ambitious, beautifully filmed and costumed tale of greed and murder is stunning by the sheer number of stars that have been cast. The movie rivals the nighttime soap ‘Dynasty’ for subtlety but does so with a much bigger budget,” Ford wrote. “Directed by master filmmaker Ridley Scott and starring Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, and Salma Hayek,...

First reactions for Ridley Scott’s star-studded murder drama “House of Gucci” are trickling in following the movie’s official world premiere in London. The film is Scott’s second major release of 2021 following “The Last Duel,” which launched to strong reviews out of the Venice Film Festival but flopped at the box office. Will “House of Gucci” be a rebound for Scott? Based on the first reactions below, it appears the director has made a messy and soapy fashion epic that’s bound to be one of the buzziest films of the holiday movie season.

Last Night In Soho Writer Remembers Penny Dreadful: 'We Were Just Too Soon, Weren't We?' [Exclusive]
Once upon a time, in the mid-2010s, there was a little Showtime series called "Penny Dreadful." That series, loosely based on the "penny dreadful" magazines of the Victorian period, was a beautiful gothic nightmare. Viewers were enraptured with the stories of Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), adventurer Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton), possibly possessed Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), and howling hottie Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett). "Penny Dreadful" was like a truly excellent adaptation of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," mixing public domain gothic characters to delightful conclusions.
The series, created by Jon Logan and Sam Mendes, only ran for three seasons. The...

Three years after “A Star Is Born,” Lady Gaga is back in the Oscar race for her latest acting tour de force in Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci.” She stars as Patrizia Reggiani, who was convicted of orchestrating the killing of her ex-husband and ex-head of the Gucci fashion empire Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) in 1998, and served 16 years in prison. From the looks of this latest trailer from distributor MGM, Lady Gaga tears down the house in Scott’s soapy murder saga, and is gunning for that Best Actress statuette. Watch the new trailer below before the film arrives in theaters on November 24 via MGM distributing arm United Artists Releasing.

“Father, Son, and House of Gucci”: Has Lady Gaga ever uttered more iconic words?
The star-studded trailer for Ridley Scott‘s “House of Gucci,” in theaters November 24, promises plenty of greed, deception, and of course, murder. But audiences were also left to unravel the real-life mystery surrounding the fashionable family. The film already is being eyed for awards season buzz as Adam Driver and Gaga seem to be a match made in Academy Award heaven coming off respective critically acclaimed films “Marriage Story” and “A Star Is Born,” and coupled with performances by an unrecognizable Jared Leto, Al Pacino, and Jeremy Irons, all Oscar winners. Golden Globe award-winning star Salma Hayek rounds out the cast, alongside Camille Cottin, Jack Huston, and Reeve Carney.

In the wake of the abrupt $43 billion merger between Discovery and AT&T’s WarnerMedia, rumors are racing that Amazon is poised to scoop up MGM in a deal which is reportedly worth under $10 billion.
Much of this coming from a speculative report in The Information. Deadline separately hears from sources that there’s been a week of talks between the tech giant and the Hollywood studio. MGM declined to comment on rumors, and Amazon did not respond. We’re awaiting more intel at the time of this report.
Rumors have been afloat for years that the 007 studio has been up for sale. Days before Christmas last year, a WSJ report surfaced that MGM had tapped Morgan Stanley and LionTree to explore a sale.
What would Amazon be getting? One of the deepest film libraries, which boasts 177 Oscar wins, 12 Best Picture winners, the James Bond franchise which has grossed over $7 billion in its global B.

Ridley Scott has two movies coming down the pike with “The Last Duel” (October 15) and “House of Gucci” (November 24). Both star Adam Driver, with the former centering around best friends facing off over a horrifying crime in 14th-century France, and the latter about the story of Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), as she is tried and convicted of orchestrating the assassination of her ex-husband and former head of the Gucci fashion house, Maurizio Gucci (Driver).

Patrizia Reggiani, the former Gucci heiress who was convicted of ordering former husband Maurizio Gucci’s murder, is calling out Lady Gaga, who is starring as Reggiani in Ridley Scott’s upcoming movie “House of Gucci.” A first photo of Gaga as Reggiani and Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci debuted this week to explosive fanfare from moviegoers, but the real Reggiani says she’s “rather annoyed” that Gaga never contacted her or met her prior to filming “House of Gucci.”
“I am rather annoyed at the fact that Lady Gaga is playing me in the new Ridley Scott film without having had the consideration and sensibility to come and meet me,” Reggiani told Italian news agency Ansa (via The Independent). “It is not an economic question. I won’t get a cent from the film. It is a question of good sense and respect.”

By all accounts, musician Jeff Buckley was on the verge of breaking out in a big way when he died tragically in 1997, as he was working on the songs that would make up his sophomore album. Unfortunately, the young singer-songwriter had only one album under his belt before then, but his legacy has lived on over the past couple of decades. And now, his life is heading to the big screen in a new biopic from director Orian Williams.

MGM has tapped two investment banks and started a formal sale process, looking to generate heat from Hollywood studios, international conglomerates, private equity firms and the growing multitude of Spacs, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing people familiar with the matter.
Here’s what Deadline hears. The private company has mulled a sale for several years but couldn’t seem to find a fit on price. The board is certainly talking; MGM doesn’t have the scale to compete against the biggest studios, but could be a valuable piece for a bigger player. But right now, it’s only talk and we’d be surprised if they engaged bankers to hang a for sale sign anytime soon. It might be like the last report about a possible MGM-related transaction, which came when they tested the waters on possibly not waiting out the pandemic on the 007 film No Time to Die,...

Jeremy Irons is set to join the A-list ensemble of MGM’s Gucci movie that Ridley Scott is directing. Lady Gaga is attached to star as Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci who was tried and convicted of orchestrating his assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. She served 18 years in jail before being let out in 2016.
Irons joins a cast that includes Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney.
It is the first project Lady Gaga has attached herself to since her Best Actress nomination in a breakout turn opposite Bradley Cooper in 2018’s A Star Is Born. She won an Oscar for the song “Shallow,” one of a number of hits on the soundtrack. MGM landed rights to the Gucci package back in April with plans to go into production after Scott finished shooting The Last Duel, which goes back into production next week.

Even though he’s rapidly approaching the age of 83, Ridley Scott isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Not only is he trying to get back to work and finish his period drama, “The Last Duel,” it would appear that he’s already setting up his cast for his next feature, with arguably one of the best lineups of actors in a while.
According to Deadline, Scott and MGM are in talks with Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Huston, and Reeve Carney to join the upcoming film, “Gucci.” The feature has already landed Lady Gaga in the lead role, so these other actors would all surround the “A Star is Born” actress and turn the biopic into a true ensemble.

Marking her first role since A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga came aboard Ridley Scott’s Gucci family drama last fall. With the film set to follow Patrizia Reggiani––who went to prison in 1999 for killing her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci, whose grandfather founded the clothing company––there are many other high-profile parts in the sprawling ensemble to fill and now quite an impressive cast is coming together.
Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jack Huston, and Reeve Carney are all joining the film, Deadline reports. While there are no details on what characters they will play yet, we imagine the majority will fill in the family roles. Marking another reunion between Pacino and De Niro after last year’s The Irishman, it also marks a reunion between Driver and Scott as they still need to finish shooting The Last Duel when it is safe to do so.

We're running down our favorite shows of the decade! In addition to our favorite action/adventure series and favorite procedurals, and relationship-focused programming, we're on to a big one -- supernatural series!
Here is a reminder that we have almost two dozen favorites lists, and since we couldn't showcase every show on every list, we parsed them out a bit to make it more fun.
And these lists are not in any particular order. They're in the order the entries were received by TV Fanatic staff, so don't read into them!
To qualify, a show that began in another decade had to be airing during the decade, run a larger number of seasons from 2010 through 2019 if it started before 2010 or run the entire decade. Here we go!

Hadestown, the eight-time Tony Award-winning musical by Anaïs Mitchell, gave fans a holiday gift on Friday with a special music video for its original love song, “All I’ve Ever Known,” performed by cast members Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada (portraying Orpheus and Eurydice, respectively). The clip sees the pair walking cheerfully through Times Square together on a snowy day, overlaid with the song’s romantic lyrics.
Mitchell wrote the book, lyrics and score for the musical, becoming the first woman in years to have sole credit on a Broadway musical’s writing.

This year’s Grammy nominees for Best Musical Theater Album are “Ain’t Too Proud,” “Hadestown,” “Moulin Rouge!,” “The Music of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child — In Four Contemporary Suites” and “Oklahoma!” Six of the last 10 winners in this category matched up with the Tony Award for Best Musical. So does this bode well for the 2019 Tonys champ, “Hadestown”?
In the musical, songwriter Orpheus and his muse Eurydice fall in love during the warmth of summertime. But as winter approaches, reality sets in: these young dreamers can’t survive on songs alone. Tempted by the promise of plenty, Eurydice is lured to the depths of industrial Hadestown. On a quest to save her, Orpheus journeys to the underworld where their trust is put to a final test.

The Grammys took a fairly expansive sweep with this morning’s nominations for Best Musical Theater Album, The Motown sound, Rodgers & Hammerstein, the folk-rock music of Anaïs Mitchell, the reworked radio hits of Moulin Rouge! and Imogen Heap’s Harry Potter musical suites were all represented.
But four of the five nominations did not include composers, since the music was not original to the cast albums. In the case of several, the musical numbers consist largely of oldies, some reworked for contemporary settings. Anaïs Mitchell’s previous concept album for Hadestown was already Grammy-nominated upon its release in 2010.
The nominees:
Ain’t Too Proud: The Life And Times Of The Temptations is a rousing recreation of the Motown sound, focusing largely, but not exclusively, on the title group’s hits. Nominated were original cast members Saint Aubyn, Derrick Baskin, James Harkness, Jawan M. Jackson, Jeremy Pope and Ephraim Sykes and...

I recently made my Broadway debut. No, I wasn’t offered to replace Reeve Carney in “Hadestown” (but thanks for asking). I was instead pulled on stage at the Cort Theatre by Derren Brown, the thrilling mentalist currently mystifying audiences in his solo show “Derren Brown: Secret.” I would divulge every wacky thing Brown made me do in front of a thousand strangers, but he asks everyone in the audience not to spill the beans on his titular secret. I’ll oblige him. What did cross my mind however, is that a production like “Derren Brown: Secret” has no proper place to compete at the Tony Awards. With a season full of unique offerings, it’s time to bring the Special Theatrical Event category back to Broadway’s biggest night.

Plenty of attention is paid to the top races and acting categories at the Tony Awards. But if you are looking to do well in our prediction contest, you will also have to make smart decisions in the below-the-line categories as well. The four design categories often trip up Tony pundits, especially when there is no one show predicted to sweep. There is no single such juggernaut this season, which means upsets and surprises are likely. To provide some help with these tough categories, take a look at the analysis below before you make any final predictions.
Scenic Design
Flip a coin, because “Hadestown” and “Beetlejuice” are locked in a neck and neck race here. My gut says David Korins will win for having the “most” scenic design of any musical this season for “Beetlejuice.” It’s an immense set with moving parts, that perfectly captures a twisted Tim Burton vibe while keeping things fresh.

Amber Gray had been simmering Off and Off Off Broadway for about a decade when, in 2016, she appeared to arrive fully-formed – to Broadway audiences, anyway – as some sort of next-generation diva, a new force in the world of musical theater, landing a knock-out performance as Countess Hélène Bezukhova in the Broadway production of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. “Charming,” her spotlight number from the musical, seemed (still does) destined to secure an early place in a lasting personal repertoire, sure to be shout-requested in untold numbers of concerts to come.
So in a way, Great Comet was both a culmination and a first act. Now Gray has been Tony-nominated (Best Featured Actress/musical) for her current performance as Persephone in Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown. A hit critically and with sell-out crowds, Hadestown is Mitchell’s uncannily prescient re-do of the Orpheus myth,...
