Why isn't Julia Louis-Dreyfus in more movies? Yes, there are likely personal and professional reasons that keep one of the funniest ladies in Hollywood away from the big screen, but allow us to throw up our arms and demand more. Louis-Dreyfus has dominated television since the '80s (revisit her "Saturday Night Live" work and prepare to go bananas), "Seinfeld" making her a household name and providing a curse that only she could break. The success of "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Veep" rests entirely on Louis-Dreyfus shoulders. Maybe the weekly format provides a comfort, maybe Hollywood just isn't writing roles for funny women (that's not really a maybe, but let's not digress), but we're tired of the small screen having all the Julia Louis-Dreyfus fun. Her latest accolade only rubs it in. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles announced Monday that Louis-Dreyfus would...

For the second time, Brit comedian Rob Brydon ("The Trip to Italy") will host. BBC America will broadcast the event for the third year on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 9pm Et. BAFTA La Chairman Nigel Daly said of Louis-Dreyfus: “Her ability to create iconic, enduring characters like Selina Meyer, Christine Campbell, Elaine Benes, and her most recent role as Eva in 'Enough Said,' is such that it is impossible to imagine the last 20 years of comedy without her." Louis-Dreyfus is guaranteed to be hugely entertaining. Also on stage this year will be would-be Oscar contenders, per usual, "The Judge" star Robert Downey Jr. (the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film) and "Mr. Turner" writer-director Mike Leigh (the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing). Other honorees are "Noah" star Emma Watson (British Artist of the Year); "Begin Again" and "The Normal Heart" star...

Alright, alright, alright! Matthew McConaughey earned his first Emmy nomination this year along with Taylor Schilling, Lizzy Caplan and many more. But 2014's crop of honorees is also full of veterans. Many of the performers nominated are already known for bringing one if not multiple classic small-screen characters to life. Julia Louis-Dreyfus alone has graciously given us Elaine Benes, Selina Meyer and Christine Campbell. This left us wondering, what would happen if each 2014 Emmy nominee could only have one memorable character live on in TV history? We struggled through some true TV "Sophie's Choices" to pick the characters we believe pop culture needs to survive.

Cassidy Lynn Campbell did something typical when she was named her Southern California high school's homecoming queen. She wept. But Campbell hopes her crown will serve a specific purpose: The transgender teen wants to open people's minds about gender identity. "I wasn't doing this for me," 16-year-old Campbell, who lived as Lance Campbell until three years ago, told ABC News. "I was doing this for so many others around the nation." Winning the student vote over five other finalists, Campbell became the first trans homecoming queen at Huntington Beach's Marina High School, although she says she experienced some backlash when...

We knew her as Elaine Benes on Seinfeld, Christine Campbell on The New Adventures of Old Christine and currently she plays Vice President Selena Meyer on Veep, but now, Julia Louis-Dreyfus has a new TV title: Emmy Record Breaker!
After earning another nomination this morning, July 18, for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, the 52-year-old has surpassed the late Lucille Ball's record of having the most Emmy nods (13) as an actress.
Related: 2013 Emmy Nominees Revealed
In addition, Louis-Dreyfus also has made some Emmy firsts. She is the only actress who has three wins from three separate shows. She received seven nominations from 1992-98 for Seinfeld, five consecutive noms from 2006-10 for The New Adventures of Old Christine and this past year, an Emmy win for her lead role on HBO's Veep.
Check out two of her acceptance speeches, below:

Warner Bros International Television Production is moving into the scripted-format export business, commissioning a local version of sitcom The New Adventures Of Old Christine to Rtl in Germany. Rtl has ordered eight episodes for a 2013 premiere, with Polyphon producing. Sony TV has been the most active in setting up local versions of sitcoms from its libraries, including remakes of The Nanny, Married…With Children, Who’s The Boss? and Everybody Loves Raymond. Some of them have been hugely successful, like the Russian version of Nanny, and some have misfired, like the recent Bulgarian remake of Married, as adapting American comedies to local cultures is always a tricky proposition. Created by Kari Lizer, Old Christine aired on CBS for five seasons and earned star Julia Louis-Dreyfus an Emmy for playing divorced working mom Christine Campbell as she juggles the daily stresses and conflicts of motherhood and her business.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is no stranger to Emmy love. Her most recent nomination is her sixth in the Outstanding Lead Actress In a Comedy Series category, with the previous five for "The New Adventures of Old Christine," and she racked up seven more for her Supporting Comedy Actress role on "Seinfeld," with a win for each show in their respective categories. But that didn't make this year's Emmy nomination for "Veep" any less exciting.
I caught up with Louis-Dreyfus to talk about her latest lead actress nod ("I'm tickled pink") and the Outstanding Comedy Series nomination for the show ("the most delightful surprise"), and she also confirmed that she and her fellow comedy actress nominees are cooking up something fun for the ceremony. (Remember last year when the nominees each took the stage when her name was announced? There was genuine excitement from all the women -- and a tiara and roses for the winner.

Confession time -- I love network television. Love. Lurrrrve. I know it's not super-sophisticated, and because I write about all kinds of TV shows, I should be more turned on by what cable offers, but I just don't. I like being able to watch a show, enjoy it, and not have to take it so seriously. Reading that back, it sounds like a backwards compliment, but there's something so ... I don't know, comforting about the longing between Castle and Beckett, the banter between the "Big Bang" nerds, and the singing on "Smash."
But I'm not a total cable snob. While I hate blood and gore and nudity, two of my favourite shows are "The Walking Dead" and "House of Lies" (aside: I can't explain why walkers don't freak me out, but Freddy Krueger still lives in my basement; nor am I Prudence McPrude, mayoress of Prudytown when it comes to...

If you hold the opinion, as many of us do these days, that Washington, D.C., apparently is a combination of lunatic asylum and day care center for petulant infants, HBO's new comedy series "Veep," which premieres on Sunday, April 22, probably won't change your mind. It just may relieve your frustration with some healthy laughter, however.
The political sitcom, which marks the welcome return of Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus to series television, views events in the nation's capital from the perspective of former senator Selina Meyer (Louis-Dreyfus), a career politician who seemed to be on the fast track to the White House until she was elected vice president. Since then, her political life has become a series of comic missteps in which even her best-intentioned efforts get lost in a maze of red tape and personal politics.

On the 100th anniversary of her birthday, Lucille Ball is still a front runner for the title of the greatest comedienne in TV history, alongside greats like Mary Tyler Moore, Isabel Sanford, and Betty White. And while I Love Lucy ended its initial run back in the ’50s, Ball’s influence is still obvious in many of today’s top TV comics — from SNL vets Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to sitcom stars like Debra Messing. But do any of these ladies deserve to be called the new Lucy? (Apologies to beloved EW vet Michael Slezak, who begged us back...

Christine Campbell (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is a neurotic single mom who has a hard time juggling her responsibilities at home and work. Others in her life include her low-key brother, Matthew (Hamish Linklater); best friend and business partner, Barbara (Wanda Sykes); young son Ritchie (Trevor Gagnon); irresponsible ex-husband, Richard (Clark Gregg); and his current love, "New Christine" (Emily Rutherfurd). Often popping up to make "Old Christine" feel even more incompetent are "mean mommies," Marly and Lindsay (Tricia O'Kelley and Alex Kapp Horner).
As you probably know, The New Adventures of Old Christine was cancelled in the spring and won't be back for season six. On the positive side, the show is coming to syndication and Lifetime.

The major categories for the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations were announced live this morning by Modern Family's Sofia Vergara and Community's (and The Soup's) Joel McHale. I'm skipping the miniseries and/or movie nominations because, as Cory pointed out, the winners will either be The Pacific (which was awesome), Temple Grandin, or something that none of us likely watched. So, let's start with the Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy nominations:

The morning the Screen Actors Guild announced the nominees for the 16th annual SAG awards. The actual ceremony will be held Saturday, January 23rd. There are a lot of gay-faves on the list of nominees.
For starters, Colin Firth picked up a nomination for A Single Man,and Sigourney Weaver is in the running for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries thanks to Prayers for Bobby.
Freshmen series Glee and Modern Family are competing against each other for Beest TV Comedy Ensemble.
And surprisingly (at least for me) the cast of True Blood is up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
You can check out the full list of nominess after the break!

(S05E10) When a bully is revealed at the school Little Ritchie attends, Christine is clearly worried that her son is being victimized. But while Old Christine followed the traditional sitcom formula for a bit at the beginning, by the time we reached the end of the episode, it had gone somewhere only Christine Campbell can take it.
Even better we got a surprise return, though it's something I've kind of been waiting for all season, and a hilarious guest appearance by Amy Sedaris. I can't understand why Sedaris hasn't blown up even bigger than she has. If Michael Strahan can get a big network comedy built around him, why they hell can't Amy Sedaris?
She took what could have been a pretty ordinary guest appearance, and turned it into a powerhouse performance all on its own through sheer force of will and talent.

"The New Adventures of Old Christine" creator Kari Lizer has inked a rich new overall deal with the show's producer, Warner Bros. Television.
Under the three-year pact, said to be in the high seven figures, Lizer will focus on developing projects for the studio.
Additionally, she will continue as executive producer/showrunner on "Christine" should the comedy series starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus be picked up for a sixth season.
For the past two seasons, "Christine," which was assigned the tough job of opening a second comedy night for CBS on Wednesday, was on the bubble at the Eye but ultimately given last-minute renewals.
Both years, ABC had offered to step in and pick up the series, which earned Louis-Dreyfus an Emmy for playing harried divorced mom Christine Campbell.

Kari Lizer, left, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Although it has no Lgbt characters, CBS’s The New Adventures of Old Christine is one that queer audiences should be checking out — for several reasons.
This sharply written sitcom about a divorced mother (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who lives with her brother, recently married her female best friend and is oftentimes too closely involved in her ex-husband’s life (whose new girlfriend is also named Christine, hence the show’s title), kicked off its fourth season last fall.
Speaking by phone from Los Angeles, series creator Kari Lizer recently talked to us about how Christine came to be, and the surprising lack of controvery the show's same-sex wedding generated.
After having a semi-successful acting career up until she turned 30, Lizer turned to writing with the intent she’d write acting parts for herself. Instead of acting gigs, however, her comedic writing got her noticed and...
