#1 New poster for Daniel Calparsoro's "Circus"
We'd previous brought you a detailed description of Daniel Calparsoro's film which essentially sees an American family stranded in the middle of the desert with a circus of crazies. The good folks at Bd have uncovered a new poster for the film. It's pretty spiffy!
#2 Richard Matheson's "Real Steel" coming to the big screen
Not sure how I feel about news that Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy is at the helm of this project but the story of a "father and son action drama set in the near future, surrounding the sport of robot boxing" sounds promising, as does the tidbit that Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in the production. At the very least we know the special effects will look good. [via Sci-Fi Wire]
#3 First look at Frank Beddor's "The Looking Glass Wars" concept art

For a while it looked like director Paco Plaza would be doing double-duty for Filmax, shooting both Rec 2 and the upcoming Circus. With today's news, however, it seems Plaza is off Circus and a different director has already joined up.
Aullidos got word that Daniel Calparsoro (Salto al Vacío) will be directing the horror flick, which is about an average family forced to go up against a group of psychotic circus folk in the desolation of the Nevada desert.
Sounds a lot like The Hills Have Eyes, but I'm a sucker for these "desperate battle for survival" flicks and this one has already got me plenty curious - considering its pedigree. It's been floating around in development for a while now, so let's hope Filmax gets around to rolling on this sucker sooner rather than later.

Once a vehicle for director Paco Plaza ( Rec , Rec 2 ), Circus is now set to be directed by Daniel Calparsoro. Set in the Nevada desert, the film tells of a family who become the main attraction of a malevolent circus. Calparsoro is reportedly in pre-production on a horror film called The Cold which follows a group of friends on a hunting trip who confront their war torn past and a devilish secret. Russell Friedenberg penned that one. No word yet as to what stage of the game Circus is in. Filmax is producing. »

Attendance was down by 30 percent at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Not surprising, considering the recession still biting and Euro exchange rates keeping prices along the Croisette at ridiculously expensive levels. Yet the number of high-profile genre films in the Official Competition was a bonus for those more used to finding the most controversial entries up for distributor grabs in the Market section. While Park Chan-wook’s Thirst and Gaspar Noe’s Enter The Void certainly had their followers, with Terry Gilliam’s out-of-competition The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus a similar hot ticket, the two biggest stories were Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist.
Cinema saves the world in Tarantino’s disjointed, history-bending homage to war movies, which takes its misspelled name—but very little else—from Enzo Castellari’s 1978 Italian cult exploiter. Divided into chapters, each highlighting a movie style like Sergio Leone spaghetti Westerns, »

Beyond the break you can check out the logo art for Ghost House Pictures' Burst, which will be directed by Daniel Calparsoro from a screenplay Gary Dauberman. In the film an isolated town endures an alien invasion that causes victims to spontaneously combust during a severe snowstorm. A young woman running from her troubles finds herself stranded at a lodge with a group of strangers. One after another, they inexplicably begin to burst into pieces. Shock quickly descends into paranoia as nobody knows who to trust. And as the mystery unravels, the survivors realize that what's causing this unstoppable phenomenon is bigger and more disturbing than anyone could have ever imagined. »
