The cover of John Lennon‘s Double Fantasy depicts him kissing Yoko Ono. The record’s title is not simply a reference to the two of them working together. John revealed the name has a spiritual meaning.
John Lennon’s ‘Double Fantasy’ was inspired by John’s view of prayer
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features an interview from 1980. In it, John revealed his opinions about prayer. “The consciousness is, ‘Let’s see what we shall pray for together. Let’s make it stronger by picturing the same image, projecting the same image,'” he said. “And that is the secret. That is the secret. Because you can be together but projecting different things.”
Yoko said these dual projections were “double fantasies,” alluding to the title of their newest record. “Double fantasies at the same time,” John replied. “And...

If the world has to figure out, if it hasn’t done so already, why Bollywood films are tanking in the box office, they only have to watch the web series ‘Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’. The brainwave of Karan Johar, it is a cringe-worthy showcase of the kind of unreal lives the denizens of Bollywood lead in their manicured homes far removed from the gritty reality of India.
How can Bollywood make films that will get real people to pay a fortune and watch them, when the industry’s presiding deities live in sterilised cocoons?
The same la-la land returns to our lives, courtesy of Karan Johar, of course, in ‘Koffee With Karan’, which has now become all about sex and Alia Bhatt. As KJo ages, not as smoothly as a Bordeaux claret, he can’t seem to get Alia Bhatt out of his mind. She keeps popping up...

New Delhi, Nov 23 (Ians) Actress Katie Holmes has spoken of what attracted her to the script of her upcoming romantic drama, The Secret: Dare To Dream.
Directed by veteran Andy Tennant, the film revolves around the story of a hardworking young widow (played by Holmes), who is struggling to raise three children on her own, and how her life changes when she meets Bray Johnson (Josh Lucas). The film based on Rhonda Byrne's 2006 self-help book, The Secret.
"This project felt like such a great opportunity because the book means so much to so many people. I think that Andy crafted a beautiful story that fulfils the themes of the book, but the characters are also very much alive on their own," Holmes said.
The cast also features Celia Weston and Jerry O'Connell.
Connell shared how he reacted when he got the offer to be a part of the project.

‘Made in Italy.’
Madman Entertainment’s father-and-son comedy Made in Italy and Icon’s Mel Gibson starrer Force of Nature launched reasonably well last weekend but neither could match the market leader, Studiocanal’s Unhinged in its third frame.
Nonetheless exhibitors were encouraged by the uptick in ticket sales as proof that people are returning to cinemas in the lead-up to Warner Bros’ Tenet, which will have paid previews next weekend before the August 27 debut.
The re-issue of Disney’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope also juiced takings, as Numero reported the top 20 titles collared $2.3 million, up 10 per cent on the prior frame.
Magnum Films’ South Korean action horror film Peninsula and Rialto’s French import La Belle Époque had respectable debuts.
Director Derrick Borte’s road rage thriller Unhinged, which stars Russell Crowe and Caren Pistorius, rang up $452,000 on 198 screens, hoisting the total to $2.3 million.

Are Nicholas Sparks adaptations a bit too hard-hitting for you? Did you quite fancy Josh Lucas in Sweet Home Alabama but find him too charismatic? Do you enjoy mansplaining, rictus grins and infomercials?
Boy oh boy, fans of the bland, do we have a movie for you!
Miranda Wells (Katie Holmes) is having a hard time. She has a leaky roof, a dead husband, a boring boyfriend and mild to moderate debt. Sometimes she cannot afford to order pizza and she definitely cannot buy her daughter a pony. Woe is her. Outside her southeastern Louisiana home, a storm is brewing and swirling in the gale are the winds of change.

Studiocanal’s road rage thriller Unhinged was the top choice again for cinemagoers in its second weekend while R&r Films’ Black Water: Abyss, director Andrew Traucki’s sequel to his 2007 cult-horror Black Water, opened on limited screens in Oz and the US.
Starved of new, wide releases, the market had to rely on holdovers as well as two French specialty films, Palace’s We’ll End Up Together and Umbrella Entertainment’s Deerskin.
The top 20 titles generated $2.1 million, 4 per cent up on the previous frame, according to Numero.
Directed by Derrick Borte and starring Russell Crowe and Caren Pistorius, Unhinged rang up $701,000 on 193 screens, easing by a mere 12 per cent, upping the total to $1.7 million.

The self-help sensation “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne has become a sappy romantic drama. Weirdly, the transition to a love story makes sense. The book is based on the idea that positive thinking will bring about positive outcomes, and isn’t that the foundation of many romantic movies? “The Secret: Dare to Dream” builds a romantic plot around that notion and fleshes it out to a movie.

‘Unhinged.’
Australian critics scorned Unhinged but audiences turned out last weekend for the road rage thriller starring Russell Crowe and Caren Pistorius.
The Studiocanal release, which stars Pistorius as a single mother who incurs the wrath of Crowe’s character, drummed up $802,000 on more than 200 screens.
Even so, ticket sales remain depressed with Melbourne’s cinemas closed (26 per cent of the market) and most locations operating on reduced sessions and with capacity limits.
The top 20 titles generated nearly $2 million, 11 per cent up on the previous frame, according to Numero, but nearly 90 per cent below the same weekend a year ago – $17.8 million – when Universal launched Fast & Furious Hobbs and Shaw.
Clearly the pandemic is deterring some cinemagoers. “I think that the fear of what is happening with Covid-19 is impacting audiences still, especially the older audience,” Majestic Cinemas CEO Kieren Dell tells If.
“Most of the other movies we have on are aimed at that audience.

It’s a volatile time in our country. We are divided and there’s an extreme sense of civic unrest. As hopeless as many of us feel, there are heroes on the front lines who are protecting our constitutional freedoms when it comes to abortion rights, immigration rights, LGBTQ rights and voting rights — and those heroes are chronicled in the documentary The Fight which debuts today in select theaters and on demand.
Directed by Elyse Steinberg, Josh Kriegman and Eli Despres, who produce alongside Kerry Washington, The Fight debuted at Sundance earlier this year. Who would have known that this documentary would be so poignant during this pivotal moment in history when Black lives are being killed, trans women of color are being murdered, the well-being of immigrants is at risk and the Trump’s administration is doing everything they can to put civil liberties of marginalized communities in danger.

Katie Holmes sees her life transformed by a mysterious stranger in a featherweight adaptation of the bestselling self-help book
The key tenet of Rhonda Byrne’s mystical self-help blockbuster The Secret is that if one desires and then really thinks about something hard enough then it will ultimately appear. If this tracks then somewhere, deep in America, one of the book’s many superfans has been close to bursting a blood vessel visualising a $20 rental of a once theatrically aimed movie adaptation, mood-boarding a costly night in with a middle-of-the-road sub-Nicholas Sparks pile of soap bubbles. It’s a frothy, forgettable translation of the hit book that takes its central belief system and uses it as the basis for a vaguely magical romantic drama for moms.

Many people believe in the power of positive thinking.
I dare say it's in short supply in 2020, so it seems like a great time for the release of The Secret: Dare to Dream. It's a scripted story inspired by the bestselling self-help book, The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne.
To be honest, I don't know many people who ascribe to positive thinking and utilize the power of the universe to achieve their goals.
I've never read The Secret, either, and it sounds like complete hooey that if you're always focused on the negative, that's what you'll attain.
The good news is that everyone, including me, can find joy in a feel-good movie, and you don't need to be familiar with The Secret or ascribe to its philosophy to find some enjoyment with The Secret: Dare to Dream.

Arriving more than a decade too late in both its inspirational and foundational appeal, “The Secret: Dare to Dream,” a fictionalized adaptation of author Rhonda Byrne’s popular self-help book “The Secret,” traipses through familiar territory without enhancing anyone’s insight. This story, about a financially and emotionally taxed family learning to find light in the darkness and love in chance encounters, is a blundering attempt to hawk books while aping another famous author’s patented style. Littered with confounding clichés and hokey devices, director/co-writer Andy Tennant’s feature is the exact inverse of what a passionate romance should aspire to be, let alone one preaching the power of positivity.

Katie Holmes is thinking good thoughts as she uses her gift to impart the wisdom of The Secret.
Katie Holmes is set to headline a feature film adaptation of hit 2006 book The Secret. Rhonda Byrne didn’t just write a self-help book series with her works. She created the law of attraction, which breathed new life into the New Age spiritual movement. The Secret spawned the follow-ups The Power in 2009, The Magic in 2010, and Hero in 2013. Byrne aims to bring joy to the world by helping people control the universe with their minds, using the teachings of Madame Blavatsky and Norman Vincent Peale and a little bit of quantum physics.
The Secret will be directed by Andy Tennant, known for romantic comedies like Sweet Home Alabama and Hitch. The adapted screenplay is being written by Bekah Brunstetter, (NBC’s This Is Us), with help from Tennant and...

Trusting in the kindness of the universe (and a bunch of movie producers and financiers hoping to cash in on the lingering popularity of a decade-old self-help book), Katie Holmes is gearing up to star in a film version of The Secret.
For those poor souls in our audience who don’t maintain an encyclopedic knowledge of everything Oprah has ever told humanity to do, The Secret was a very popular self-help book from the mid-2000s, which basically said that the secret to happiness was to collage all of your hopes and dreams onto a piece of corkboard, and then wait for the universe to manifest you a big ol’ stack of cash. The book—written by Rhonda Byrne—was actually based on a 2006 documentary of the same name, itself based on the more blatantly honest The Science Of Getting Rich.

John Oliver stopped by “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Monday and jokingly blamed the rise of Donald Trump on one person: Oprah Winfrey. “He’s always acted like the most powerful man in the world. That’s how he carries himself,” Oliver said. “It’s like ‘The Secret’ was real and it worked for one person and unfortunately, it was him.” Meyers pointed out that self-help book by Rhonda Byrne, “The Secret,” was heavily promoted by Winfrey. The book claims that positive thinking can create life-changing results. Also Read: John Oliver Returns to Blast 'Pathological Liar' Donald Trump (Video) “What I’m saying is,...

The Bling Ring
Written and Directed by Sofia Coppola
USA, 2013
Her career was born in the excesses of the 1990s and Sofia Coppola’s career trajectory has brought her through one of the worst economic crisis’ in recent history and a period of social seriousness that she seems quite frankly out of step with. In spite of this, she has found popularity (mixed in with good doses of controversy) for taking the passive “villains” of this era and making their vapidity interesting and their environment of excess reason for victimhood. Her characters often lack a sense of autonomy and are ultimately trapped by their beauty and youth in a hazy state of ennui. Based on true events, her newest film The Bling Ring features perhaps her most active characters and perhaps unintentionally, her most vapid as well.

The Oprah Winfrey Show might have ended this past May, but you didn’t really think you would escape one of your favorite things forever, did you? Of course not. So it only comes as somewhat of a surprise that the former talk show host and Own CEO announced at TCA that she will repackage old shows on her new network in order to help viewers improve their lives. (The episodes will begin airing Oct. 10, she said.)
With that message, I’m guessing she fully intends on airing some of her more service-oriented, inspirational episodes — the series featuring the re-aired...

There would be more than 19,000,000 and counting of those minutes given that is the number of copies of The Secret that have been sold to date. And that doesn't include collateral minutes born of purchases of her CDs, DVDs, wall calendars, key rings, and assorted other inspirational tchotchkes available for sale. Plus, her new book, The Power, is now number one on the New York Times advice bestseller list, so there are many more minutes ahead for many more suckers to be born. After reading a recent New York Times essay about these two books authored by Rhonda Byrne, I got to thinking about what makes her messages so compelling and why so many believe her ideas even though they seem so implausible as to be laughable. Ms. Byrne's basic premise is that people can get what they want in...

Lululemon has created a cult following for its yoga gear. Its secret? The Secret, as well as other controversial self-help classics.
I'm balancing on my head, and I don't think I've ever been more relaxed. I am one of about 30 women who have assumed similarly vertical positions early on a Sunday morning in a yoga studio on New York's Upper East Side. Tibetan chants and dimmed lights block out the city's chaos just beyond the door. Motivational quotes painted on the walls -- jealousy works the opposite way you want it to! -- seep into my consciousness.
Seconds after our petite Indian yogi leads us through our final "ommm," piercing lights flicker on. People roll in tables of merchandise like stagehands between acts of a play, converting our urban ashram into a retail temple. The women gathered at Lululemon Athletica -- the Mecca of yoga lifestyle gear -- know the drill.

SYDNEY -- Australian TV producer-turned-self-help guru Rhonda Byrne has made a stunning debut on local business magazine BRW's annual Entertainers Rich List.
Byrne shot onto the list, published Thursday, at No. 11 after sales of her DVD and book "The Secret" netted her AUS$14 million ($12 million) last year.
For the third year in a row, children's entertainers the Wiggles topped the list with AUS$50 million ($43 million) for the year, though their "earnings were flat for the year."
Like many others on the list whose earnings are outside Australia, the Wiggles earnings growth was impacted by a strong Australian dollar that increased in value over the year by 15%% to the U.S. dollar.
Actress Nicole Kidman saw her 2006 earnings grow by AUS$12.7 million to AUS$35 million ($30 million) for the year, to take the second spot on the list, largely off of earnings from features "The Invasion" and "The Golden Compass".
Hugh Jackman became the top-earning Aussie male with AUS$30 million, while singers Kylie Minogue and Keith Urban, who had successful international tours, took AUS$27 million and AUS$26 million respectively, giving them the No.
