You might remember English actor Julian Glover for his role as Walter Donovan, the villain of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." A Nazi collaborator who wants the Holy Grail to achieve immortality, he meets a grisly end when he chooses ... poorly.
In his native England, Glover was a renowned member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. In Hollywood, though? He's a 6'2 British man, so, of course, he plays the heels, even in his later roles like Pycelle on "Game of Thrones." (Who knows if he'll show up in "3 Body Problem" with his former co-stars.)
"Last Crusade" was not Glover's first rodeo with Lucasfilm; he had a much smaller role in "The Empire Strikes Back" as Imperial General Veers. The general only shows up in the film's first act, but he leads the At-at assault on the Hoth Rebel base (with some insert shots of him riding in the...

Few deaths in the "Indiana Jones" films as quite as unforgettable as that of Pat Roach's Nazi mechanic in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Upon spotting Indy (Harrison Ford) duking it out with one of his fellow Nazi handymen near a plane preparing to take off, Roach's nameless, burly villain smiles to himself as he removes his shirt, clearly itching for a fight. He proceeds to give Indy quite the thrashing and might've well won their match, had he bothered to turn around in time and spot the spinning airplane propellor bearing down on him.
Roach had a knack for playing the heel, starting with his run on the British wrestling circuit. Having earned a black belt in Judo before becoming the National Judo Champion in 1960, Roach spent the next decade wrestling under such personas as "Big" and "Lord" Pat Roach, squaring off against the likes of Dwayne Johnson's grandfather,...

In the film of Sinclair’s book, the writer ends up rerouting the story of his great-grandfather’s expedition to the Amazon to its own psychogeographic musings
Accompanying the book of the same name, Iain Sinclair extends his psychogeographic franchise out to the New World in this lightly dramatised documentary, which traces the 1891 trek of his great-grandfather Arthur Sinclair into the Amazon jungle to set up a coffee plantation for the Peruvian Corporation of London. Kicking off with testimony from the Asháninka people whose land was hijacked, his stated aim is a Conradian voyage upriver – only reversing the “romance” surrounding the colonial plunder of the time and still stinking out certain culture-war circles today.
Sinclair actually made this journey for his book, with his daughter Farne. But in writing the narration for the film version, he opts for an odd distancing affectation: it is in the mordant voice of his...

Dull vampire pix were once as ubiquitous as zombie pix are now, but when a good one came along we’d certainly take notice. The predatory Fran and Miriam are a wholly new twist on the ‘Wicked Lady’ highwayman theme — the picture transcends the softcore horror genre with class and style. Fringe director José Ramón Larraz found himself filming in England, and his output outclassed what were passing for Eurotrash horror epics across the channel. How did he do it? The answers become clear in Arrow’s special edition. Although only available in a boxed set, it’s reviewed here separately.

Yesterday I reported how the box office figures and general reception for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them hasn't been exactly what Warner Bros. was hoping for. There's a lot of thought, within the industry, that the launch of the Fantastic Beasts franchise has somewhat missed the mark the studio was aiming for. In that piece, I speculated that future installments of the spinoff series- set in the same world as J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books- might become more Potter-centric in an effort to maximize its success.

With spoilers, we look at the questions Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them left behind...
This feature contains spoilers for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and other Harry Potter films.
For fans of Jk Rowling's Wizarding World, the newest adjunct to the Harry Potter franchise has been refreshingly unknown up until release. Although the new spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is set before the previous films, we don't expect that Rowling's planned five films will dovetail directly into The Philosopher's Stone and aside from a couple of references to wizarding history, it's uncharted territory.
The book version of Fantastic Beasts was published for Comic Relief in 2001 and purports to be an abridged, Muggle-worthy edition of Newt Scamander's in-universe work on magical creatures. On the other hand, the plot of the film is brand new, taking place during Newt's research into writing the book,...

Before David Bowie became a massive international rock icon, he logged his first movie role in Michael Armstrong's The Image, an obscure, black-and-white short horror film that has just been officially released for the first time online by the Wall Street Journal. Directed by Michael Armstrong, who could go on to helm such cult horror movies as Mark of the Devil and House of the Long Shadows, the film stars then-unknown actor Michael Byrne as an artist whose painting of a young man seemingly comes to life. Bowie was just 20 years old when the film was released and is magnetic as the elegant ghoul who torments his creator. “It got an X-certificate. I think it was the first short that got an X-certificate. For its violence, which in itself was extraordinary,” Armstong told the Wall Street Journal, which was given permission to post the film in its entirety by the David Bowie Archive.

Aging isn't for sissies, or so Bette Davis and the four protagonists of Quartet would have us believe. Throw that quote alongside the Bard's famous line about music being the food of love, and you've got the gist of Hollywood legend Dustin Hoffman's directorial debut. Play on, indeed.
Given the film's A-list director it should come as no surprise that Quartet contains some pretty impressive talent in front of the camera too. Peppered through with actual retired baritones, sopranos and pianists, the film's cast is led by Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Tom Courtenay and Pauline Collins. Joining them on-screen is perpetual scene stealer Michael Gambon, alongside stalwart British thesps Michael Byrne, David Ryall, Andrew Sachs and Trevor Peacock.

Waterloo Road star Alec Newman has promised that the show is returning to "edgier" storylines in its new series. The BBC One drama returns to screens tomorrow evening (August 23) as Newman's character Michael Byrne officially opens the new Waterloo Road in Scotland. Waterloo Road's move away from its previous home of Rochdale was first announced last year as part of the BBC's aim to produce more programming in Scotland. Discussing the school's relocation on BBC Breakfast today (August 22), Newman commented: "I suppose it's a 'truth is stranger than fiction' thing, in a way! There is a precedent for it and we are aware that it's a very bold, dramatic move. "I spent a little bit of time with a real headteacher of an independent school down in the south of England, and that's what I was very (more)...

I can't lie, I never got around to checking out Steve Barker's Outpost, but after getting a look at the brand new trailer for the follow up (which has been sitting in limbo for some time now), Outpost II: Black Sun, I can guarantee I'll be seeking this one out immediately: The sequel looks absolutely vicious! Barker returns to write (alongside of Rae Brunton) and direct this immediate follow up, which features the talents of thespians Richard Coyle (Grabbers), Clive Russell (Sherlock Holmes), Michael Byrne (Braveheart), Catherine Steadman (Salmon Fishing in the Yemen) and Paul Birchard (The Dark Knight).

It almost feels like we do as much press for Chris Nahon's Blood: The Last Vampire as we do for that little Rob Zombie movie which will be kicking around in August. Okay, I’ll admit not knowing much about the “Blood: The Last Vampire” other than it seems to be a favorite of anime- and manga-savvy friends of mine. But after seeing how well “Death Note,” one of my favorite series, was translated to the live-action medium, I’m willing to give anything a shot.
Samuel Goldwyn Films has released a big batch of images from the upcoming, live-action adaptation of “Blood:The Last Vampire,” which stars Gianna Jun as Saya, a 400-year-old, half-vampire assassin on a covert mission in Vietnam-era Japan. Tasked with infiltrating a military school to discover the identity of a hidden demon, Saya has to find out which one of her classmates is the deadly creature preying on humans.
Over at SciFi Wire, they’ve posted 10 of the images that were released today, but here’s a few of the pics that haven’t been seen elsewhere yet:...
